Hey guys, I need help with this. The other day a friend of mine told me about XBC and being able to play halo1 online, so i downloaded the program and made a profile and what not, then i went to my xbox, turned on halo 1, went to system link, and stayed in the looking for games screen. Well now im stuck, i tryed to join a game from the computer but the tv still showed the looking for games screen. if someone could tell me whats wrong it would be greatly appreciated, thanx. Vile

I had a similar problem myself the first time I tried to use XBC. The FAQ and help pages at xbconnect.com help with most of the problems and are well written.

The first thing to do is make sure you have connected everything correctly and that XBC has successfully detected your xbox. That is what I had the most problems with.

If you have successfully detected your xbox, everything else ought to go smoothly.

Once your xbox has been detected, get to the Searching for games screen in Halo. Then choose a game listed in the XBC program and join it. It ought to show up.

If you can get this far, and it still doesn't work, try to join different games or just be patient. Sometimes it takes a little bit to detect a game. If you are using Windows XP with Service pack 2, you might want to make sure that your windows firewall is turned off while you play. Also, if you are using some of the antivirus or protection software listed on xbc, you might have some other firewall issues.

Also, be aware that Halo 1 was not optimized for net play, therefore lag can be a serious issue if you and all of the players in your game are not within a reasonable distance of each other.

I hope that helps. If you do get it running and are looking for some players who are reasonably close, IM or PM me. I'm in Indiana and am always looking for online Bungie goodness.
