yes i know C. this thread is pointless. in nearly every aspect. this thread should be called the only "omg I can complain about how i was wrongfully banned, and nobody will listen; except for fellow posters who check my gaming history and flame (while rubbing the fact that i was banned) and think they have found the sole reason why i was banned (not factoring intent) like they are a bungy employee" thread. these fellow posters act like they are above everyone else they deserve to get banned as well. rubbing it in is like posting a link to a pic that says some kind of variation of a fail of epic porporions. so they deserve the wrath as well. but of course theyre just helping the moderators by explainaing how each person got banned. and pretty much doing their job for them. right? lol i'm so correct while bringing up valid points it makes me cringe.

One, you couldn't be more wrong, most people on here aren't posting to flame or rubbing it in. Don't be fooled by the immature people posting "haha sucks to be you" Go by people like cookie and L00 who give you valid reasoning for why you were probably banned. The key word probably.

Two, its not the moderators job to know the reason you were banned. They don't have the influence or the tools to know such things. They are members like you and I. Again, people on this thread point out the potential reason for why you were banned.

Three, as I have stated before intent is not a factor when it comes to bans. That is an unknowable variable that is impossible to take into account. If what was done is flagged by the system as boosting or other things deemed illegal by Bungie you are guilty case closed. There have been several instances where Bungie has clarified appropriate behavior against inappropiate behavior.

Having said this you ultimately are right. This thread's only point is for people to complain, read the title, it isn't the "Thread where you appeal your ban" thread.

no jax your mistaken. i've read through the posts on many pages. many people even the ooh so mighty cookie himself have rubbed it in. to me he said "enjoy your ban". thats a very sarcastic way of rubbing it in. EDIT: ok well your still being a jerk how would someboday enjoy their ban?. so no i'm right. you don't think i'm talking from first hand experience do you? every bit of this is true. and yes you are right it is a complainers thread thats why no one of any immportance or significance and/or authority helps anybody. bungy thinks they are 100% accurate with the automated ban but anything run by a robot can malfunction and misfire every once and a while. so the point im basically trying to make is that nobody is ever heard. every one who thinks they shouldnt have gotten banned should have a fair chance to plead their case. at least anybody who takes the time to sign up on the forums and type a paragraph of thier story should be heard. EDIT: yes intent would be an impossible variable to take into account when your assuming. but if you actually talked to the person and they reasoned with you as well as vice versa some people could justify the behavior. like i was boosting medals which is not illegal and they're there for every game i was "naughty" in to prove it.

I was given a ban for a week. I played the banned account on my cousins xbox after the ban ended, then after atwo weeks after the ban I went back on my banned xbox and it then said I have a three month ban.

Does your cousin have anyform of xbox ban/account ban?

I'm not "rubbing it in" you acquired the ban, I'm simply saying enjoy it.

anything run by a robot can malfunction and misfire every once and a while. so the point im basically trying to make is that nobody is ever heard. every one who thinks they shouldnt have gotten banned should have a fair chance to plead their case. at least anybody who takes the time to sign up on the forums and type a paragraph of thier story should be heard.

Bingo, programmed machines arnt always correct, they cant calculate the persons intentions, I always thought this thread was created for some reason...

yes intent would be an impossible variable to take into account when your assuming. but if you actually talked to the person and they reasoned with you as well as vice versa some people could justify the behavior. like i was boosting medals which is not illegal and they're there for every game i was "naughty" in to prove it.

This is where your logic fails, your "assuming" everyone whom's been banned wasnt "intentionally" boosting for medals/exp/skill or a reason among them lines.
Boosting cannot be "justfied"

And boosting medals isnt illegal no (Well.. it's not a law?)... it's against the rules, which in bungie's terms, is suitable for a ban.
Medals are there to be "Earned".

Edit: 100th page, yay.

Boosting medals is still boosting and is against the rules as deemed by Bungie. Yes an automated system has the possibility of taking its parameters and applying them to somebody who might not actually be guilty but that is a chance I bet Bungie is willing to take. If people do things that look like boosting its probably boosting and people shouldn't be doing things that look like boosting. It's not hard to play the game with a zero percent chance of looking like boosting.

As for your first point, I apologize for not taking into account your fragile psyche. "Enjoy your ban" to me isn't being sarcastic to the point somebody is "rubbing it in." To be quite frank I am inclined to say grow up a little and take responsibilty for your actions. Thats what I take "enjoy your ban" to mean.

As for your assumption that every person should recieve a "fair trial" you couldn't be further from the truth the warnings were very clear that things like boosting, mods, host booting, and even de-leveling were against the rules and action would be taken. Bungie's banning system in regards to boosting has very clear parameters. It doesn't pick random people. People do things that are flagged and action is taken. "Misfiring" isn't a posibility in regards to the action.

if bungie want to sort out all these pleas of "unbanning", why dont they just hire a small team to properly sort, read, and the decline(maybe lol) all the cases people put forward...its just a thought, because then the forums wont get clogged up as much. they can just report directly there.

Simple. Bungie put forth a system that, in a practical sense, is fool-proof. They outlined a certain behavior that is bannable and punish the people who offend in practicing that behavior. The people that complain and wish to argue their position are the people that follow:

1. They didn't know the rule. Ignorance is not an excuse.

2. They think their actions are different, above, or acceptable to the previously stated bannable behavior. They're not.

3. People who think there are mitigating circumstances that caused them to practice in the aforementioned behavior. There are no mitigating circumstances (At a minimum I have yet to hear a good one)

Why would Bungie invest in a system with allowable loop holes? Instead they have a system bans offenders and leave it at that. Until Bungie issues an apology to people that are wrongfully banned I will hold that their system is being effective to the aims they (Bungie) expect.

EDIT: I'd also like to point out that Bungie has no need to "sort out" pleas to be unbanned and the Forums aren't really clogged with people wishing to be unbanned anymore than people that hate the AR and people who have found the secret of Sand Trap.

I just entered a game and got a little message saying I was EXP banned. I don't know why and It doesn't make sense to me. From what I know, I haven't done anything to deserve it. I'm also unsure as to why it would tell me that RIGHT AS I ENTER A GAME. As Much as I'd like to be calm about this, I'm just about to get my forty in lone wolves and it kinda ticks me off. I've been playing all week. Yes, I read the first page. I know what results in this ban.

You've got a bunch of games like this right on the first page of your game history. Playing in social playlists with a bunch of inactive guests will get you experience banned.

You should still be able to get your 40, though. You're only banned from gaining experience, not rank.

  • 03.02.2009 5:43 AM PDT

Oh. Well then. Guess that should be something that will never happen again. Thanks. Off to enjoy my ban.

I've heard you guys talk about the bannhammer system and I even though it does work, there are still some flaws. Who wan'ts to be on the alert for afk people on every game for fear of getting banned? Then you would have to leave the game, which you can get banned for also if you do it too much. It sounds like Rhae did nothing at all and doesn't deserve a ban and hes getting banned for what someone else is doing.

He was in a bunch of games with exactly the same players, including the AFK gusts, all in a row. We can be reasonably certain he was partied up with them - people at Bungie and the banhammer can know for sure - which means he didn't accidentally bump into them. He intentionally created a party that included inactive players.

So if i want to practice my sniping and i put in a non working guest and snipe it into oblivion, that is bannable? and i mean social, in a game i created. or was he online social?
even then, i dont understand how or why that is bannable?
a social game is just that, for poops and grins.

I know it the law..
doesnt mean i have to like it!

You can do that in a custom game. He was in Rumble Pit.

What...the....hell....OK so its your best friend...but why the hell would you do this?!
Anyway what is boosting?
And whats the point?
Cheating in any way or form is just stupid and you don't even need to do it, just be happy how you are. I'm not that good at the game and I'm fine here :-D. OK then, using glitches is OK because...it just is, its not making you better at the game, its just fun.
DON'T BOOST OR CHEAT!! ITS POINTLESS AND YOU'LL JUST GET BANNED!
And really...thanks Shishka. This should sort some people out. ;-D

Well, I just typed a huge post, but it didn't seem to actually "post". I'll try again.

(Note-My ban was a while ago, but I never really got a reply from past questions.)

A while back, back when the files forum was still around, I can remember reading all of the posts saying that you CAN have modded content in your fileshare, as long as it didn't affect matchmaking.

After seeing these posts so many times, I put some modded stuff in there, to show friends. (I think it was around two maps, and two pictures.)

Anyway, a short while after that, my computer was flooded with viruses, so I couldn't use it. During that time, the rules must have been changed to "no mods". Well, I couldn't read that new rule. Occasionally, the mods would be taken from my fileshare. Maybe this was Bungie's way of a warning. I just figured that they took out themselves or something, being mods and all. So, I put them back in.

After that, my 360 was down for a while, red ring issues, but I was soon back online. I checked my fileshare, and...

Surprise! Ban! ... D:`

After seeing THAT, I used another computer to see if the rules changed, and well, they did. And too bad for me, there was nothing I could do to fix it.

Thoughts?

As a fan of Halo AND Bungie, I can honestly say this. I keep by the rules and try to stay up to date the best I can. The only thing I not proud of was an EXP once, but that's a different story.

I just want my situation to be considered by somebody. To me, this is just one big misunderstanding.
