I've heard you guys talk about the bannhammer system and I even though it does work, there are still some flaws. Who wan'ts to be on the alert for afk people on every game for fear of getting banned? Then you would have to leave the game, which you can get banned for also if you do it too much. It sounds like Rhae did nothing at all and doesn't deserve a ban and hes getting banned for what someone else is doing.

It's not like you get slapped with a ban for having A "AFK" person for A game. Likewise with moderate quits. It's the constant and persistent ones that get the attention of the banhammer. Like I have stated it is not hard to play with 0% chance of getting banned. People don't get banned for having a garbage connection. Believe me I should know.

Well, I just typed a huge post, but it didn't seem to actually "post". I'll try again.

(Note-My ban was a while ago, but I never really got a reply from past questions.)

A while back, back when the files forum was still around, I can remember reading all of the posts saying that you CAN have modded content in your fileshare, as long as it didn't affect matchmaking.

After seeing these posts so many times, I put some modded stuff in there, to show friends. (I think it was around two maps, and two pictures.)

Anyway, a short while after that, my computer was flooded with viruses, so I couldn't use it. During that time, the rules must have been changed to "no mods". Well, I couldn't read that new rule. Occasionally, the mods would be taken from my fileshare. Maybe this was Bungie's way of a warning. I just figured that they took out themselves or something, being mods and all. So, I put them back in.

After that, my 360 was down for a while, red ring issues, but I was soon back online. I checked my fileshare, and...

Surprise! Ban! ... D:`

After seeing THAT, I used another computer to see if the rules changed, and well, they did. And too bad for me, there was nothing I could do to fix it.

Thoughts?

As a fan of Halo AND Bungie, I can honestly say this. I keep by the rules and try to stay up to date the best I can. The only thing I not proud of was an EXP once, but that's a different story.

I just want my situation to be considered by somebody. To me, this is just one big misunderstanding.

1. Where is the evidence that Bungiet said it was ok to put that on your fileshare? Going by a FORUM user doesn't mean they are always right. I don't remember Bungie posting such a statement, if you could provide that.. probably help your case.
2. Oh ther isn't a #2 :) lol

It wasn't just forum users. It was in a sticky, and was said by users, and moderators, and employees alike.

And there's a problem with getting proof. There isn't a files forum anymore, so I can't get the info you requested.

Proof or not there are other access points to the internet then just your own personal computer and I find your story highly improbable. Anyways, you stated yourself that the modded items had been removed and you weren't critical enough of this action. Ignorance isn't an excuse.

1. Maybe where you are, there are easy access points to the internet. I just have my computer. If I wanted to go on the internet, I would have had to travel to another place to do so, since none of my friends had internet access.

2. Yes, the modded stuff had been removed. You read part of my post. I also said that I had read multiple posts saying that it was alright to put modded content in fileshares. Why would I think that Bungie removed it, if I KNEW it was alright? I wasn't being ignorant, I just acted on my knowledge.

Most libraries everywhere practically give you free internet and computers. My point is if you were that interested in keeping updated (you probably weren't, nothing wrong with that) you could have stayed updated.

I read all your post and what you "knew" was faulty knowledge evidently and you were ignorant in thinking that when Bungie removed that they were ok with you having it on the fileshare. This is where you weren't critical enough. Why would Bungie remove something? For the "lolz"? It may be a huge "misunderstanding" on your part but like I said ignorance isn't an excuse, hell for you I'll even add "not being critical enough of an authoritative action" isn't an excuse.

Most of the time, I'm home alone, which means, if I want to go somewhere, I have to walk. I'm not going to walk all the way to my library just to go on B.net.

Also, what I "knew" wasn't faulty. Like I keep saying, it was OK to have modded content in you're fileshare. (Believe me or not, I'd doesn't give you rights to call me ignorant.)

And again, I wasn't thinking "Why would Bungie remove something" because that wasn't the case. I just typed : "Why would I think that Bungie removed it, if I KNEW it was alright?"

You can argue semantics all you want. You didn't know the "new" policy regarding modded content in the fileshare that doesn't excuse you from the rules hence the saying, "Ignorance is not an excuse." My account still stands that you weren't critical enough when Bungie removed items from your fileshare instead of saying, "Why would I think that Bungie removed it, if I KNEW it was alright?" you should have been thinking "there must be a reason these things are not on my fileshare anymore," the failure to be critical the situation again doesn't excuse you from the rules. The removal of said items should have at a minimum made you question what exactly you "knew." Bungie removed modded content and you posted them again. It is bannable, you were rightfully banned.

I just realized how awesome wrecking the enemy team with a Focus Rifle from atop the Spire is. It's magical. It's like Concussion Rifle vs Sword/Shotgun.

So if you get banned and dont know it how will you and does this count for online if youve been banned online? Also when you are EXP banned how does it affect your Halo 3 service record will you not be able to get your Highest skill up please reply.

Reading posts before you post it helps a lot, anyways if you are banned you are clearly notified. Ban's are for online matchmaking play and in some instances online fileshare (which is essentially all fileshare is). EXP ban's effect only EXP so I assume you can still get your trueskill values raised and lowered. Other than that I don't believe there are any other "effects."

  • 03.02.2009 7:57 PM PDT

hey I've got a question, and it pertains to banning, it's not a general question either. I was resently playing a match with my buddy(gt: Somedog88) and it was team slayers on standoff, before the match started one guy dropped from the team, then when we had started the game, the other two dropped, I was just curious oh the banhammer can tell the difference. or if it even does, I want to know to watch out for games like this if I have to, i'd rather not be banned for some foolishness on another's part. the game in questino is below.

http://www.bungie.net/Stats/GameStatsHalo3.aspx?gameid=100420 3263&player=Desarial

and if you must look, my track record is pretty damn clean. I do play with friends alot, gts: somedog88, rezenatorzen, zenzeralfancar, and they always have klls, sometimes more than me. yeah it's usually social slayer hopper since when I'm with them I really don't take it seriously, just goosin' around. either way, just want to watch my own back if I need too.

Yeah, You can still get your true skill up. It works. Back to a thirty nine for me. o-o Blasted true skill system. Anyways, Just confirming that bit. :D

Oh, and to the guy attempting to say I didn't do anything wrong, Yeah, they were my guests, I didn't realize that would get me an EXP ban. But it's not a big deal. Do a stupid thing, get smacked down.

dude, I'm sorry, you should be murdered just a little, the company is founded by TODD Mcfarlane, not seth. Seth Mcfarlane is the artist for family guy and american dad, Todd McFarlane is the artist for spawn and the guy who has greated an empire on his work. you shall be forgiven though.

Hey. I was just banned out of match making for some reason.

I did nothing wrong from what I can remember. I was just logged on today and I can't play in MM.

If a mod or employee can tell me why or what for, that would be awesome.

Your ok, one simple game will not get you banned.

  • 03.03.2009 1:28 PM PDT

So I have a question. I was just recently EXP banned for two weeks and I have no qualms with this, because I was in fact BOOSTING for ACHIEVEMENTS, but my question is that it was myself and two other friends all boosting for achievements, yet I was the only one banned. Any thoughts on this subject? I signed in 3 other guests, and another person signed in 2 guests, and the last guy was just by himself. Why ONLY me? I want my friends to suffer the same 2 week fate as me.

A Hero Has Rose ~Halo 3

wow... never thought i would get banned... all cause my bro kept playing when we all were eating pizza too... but a bans a ban i guess... no more matchmaking parties i guess... customs great anyways (btw bungie. i liked the mythic hopper when i WAS playing it...)

either way I'll be playing with just me in matchmaking in a solid 2 weeks ;) till then

I never said anything about your age or emotional capability. Taking responsibility for yourself and being critical of your situation is all on your imperative, whether you assume that ability or not is your choice. You can call me whatever you want all you want it makes little difference to me. Don't know what you are implying by the Ben Franklin reference but it makes you sound like a hypocrite when you just call me "kiss ass." Anyways, you are right this thread has no deep meaning and the title of it is the biggest indicator. However, it has meaning in that it gives people a place to vent anger and inquire about certain aspects as most people have done.

But like I said, I had NO warnings. NOTHING to tell me that Bungie would be removing the files on their own.

Just because the file was removed, I'm not going to automatically think that: Rules changed, Bungie removed the files, I'm going to get banned.

Damn, the file was not in my fileshare. I thought that it may have just removed itself, being a mod and all. I never dealt with mods before, so when something different from the usual happened, I figured that it would be normal for the mods. After reading that it WAS OK, thinking that it WASN'T OK would be the last thing on my mind!
