how do you know if you did?

  • 03.08.2009 3:19 PM PDT

You just cant get xp for a set period of time is what i understand

  • 03.08.2009 4:53 PM PDT

it lets tells you when you sign in on halo3

  • 03.08.2009 4:54 PM PDT

I was banned for the first time since Halo 3 came out in October. . . and it was completely justified. I fell the the dark side of cooperative achieving. I think what incurred the wrath of the banhammer was the one where I scored my perfection. Or maybe my extermination? Ironically, I got a legit Extermination the day after being XP banned.

My question is, is cheating (working with a party) to get achievements bannable in itself or is it only when it causes an unrealistic spike in stats, ie a +25 K/D spread for someone who averages +4?

"Medal boosting" is what you were doing not "achievement boosting." To answer your question no the stats are irrelevant when it comes to banning. Typically what people see when you come across most boosters is the use of guests that are not actually playing the game. Anybody on this site can look at a game and tell you were going around killing people at the spawns over and over again which is what most boosters do.

I was achievement boosting for the Mythic Map Pack Achievements which happen to require medals.

Yes, guests were being used. I had two signed in, and I believe there were three from the others who were working with me. It was in the Team Mythic hopper, and basically used to control the variables of having a random player join us and not cooperate.

I agree with my banning, I am just trying to get a better idea of exactly what factors are taken into consideration.

I live in the Uk and received Halo Wars two days before the release date, so I was playing mythic before there were many people online at all.

I received a two week xp ban for what I think might of been for boosting. I believe there were under 120 people playing Mythic when I went on, and combined with my strict nat (which really can't be helped, it's my bad router) I got into a game with the same people quite about 7 times in a row.

At the time I didn't really mind, I and one of my quests were still busy trying out skill jumps and double jumps, although the other one wasn't playing and was just holding up a space because I had become tired of having incompotant team mates scoring -20, and decided it would've genuinly been better without those elites.

And so that's how it happened, and it's been about a week now and while I don't expect anything to happen, it would be nice if Bungie told people they were suspected of doing something wrong before they were smashed in the face by a huge 7-wood banhammer.

It would also be nice if although people don't gain experience, they don't also gain games played as it makes people's ratings go down, and therefore makes them avoid playing Halo 3 (and start playing that fishing game, cod), which I am sure you don't want...

You claiming to have this knowledge of it being ok it faulty at the onset of this discussion. You have no proof. All we do have that is concrete is what the rules state now. You say that you weren't going to think something being removed, something that is not a natural occurrence, meant something was wrong with the content. I am saying that this is precisely where you weren't critical enough. You shouldn't have thought "modded content removes itself" what kind of logic is that? The fact that something was the "last thing on your mind" Doesn't cancel out your just ban. You erred on two counts. Having modded content in the first place which to my knowledge has never been condoned by Bungie and not being critical of the removal of said content, after all has anybody heard of content removing itself?

UGH! Can I please get another person in this argument! Preferably someone who can see things from my point of view!

I DID READ from users AND MODERATORS ALIKE that modded content was OK! When the content wasn't in the fileshare, why would I think that it was against the rules, after JUST READING IT WAS OK!?

Also, not being critical is not a reason for a ban! I had NO WARNINGS! Nothing on the xbox told me it was wrong...NOTHING!

...So, after only...about two weeks, why would I think a rule, that's been around a while, just suddenly change, with no warnings given on the console?

No modified content was ever allowed on file shares. The only change made was that they improved methods for automatically detecting and removing that kind of content.

I really think this was unfair... I got banned because the other team went afc and I decided to get my "save this film" achievment off of them. If you accuse me of lying, go ahead. I just dont think i should get an exp ban. Also i was playing on social, so this diddn't up my skill in any way

I got banned... twice. Now i try to find better things to do than cheat or annoy people because long periods of time without halo can be boring.

Darth Malyce??
Darth Malice!!

Buttt up witch

he's using a lag switch to boost i'm sure of it
alot of his games come up as unreliable and i was playing with him and the whole game was lagging and he kept jumping from one spot to another
the game ended with a perfection for him and his friend almost got one

to add to that he's got negative exp and a pretty high skill lv

kinda bugged me when i saw this so i just wanted to report him :(

2 examples of his lag switch 2nd one is very severe

here
and here

You are right not being critical isn't grounds for a ban. Not being critical, however, caused you to participate in a bannable offense and I am fairly positive with a good deal of common sense that it was never ok to have modded content on your fileshare. Maybe you misread what you saw at the time but modded content has never been ok. Maybe you thought when mod's said budget glitched maps were ok as modded content. I believe thats something entirely different, but anyways I digress. If you were looking for a sympathetic pity party ("Preferably someone who can see things from my point of view!") you obviously came to the wrong place. As for warnings they were constant and noticeable, even in game.

you get banned from boosting like your doing matchmaking then you do grifball you have 8 people in your game you start and only let [lets say] blue team win you get 50 EXP eventually you see a message that says you are bannes from getting banned from earning EXP for 2 weeks and takes away some EXP

no i have never been banned for modding

  • 03.09.2009 6:32 PM PDT

I got banned, I admit, I was boosting. Check my stats.

Now that I got that off my chest, I was just wondering if people have experienced not being able to get EXP after the two weeks. (like what happens when you are able to gain it again? does a message come up saying that your able, like the one that said you cant?) Thats basically the only thing that I am worried about. Thanks for the help!

By the way, I also think its great that you are able to still play matchmaking and increase your rank during the exp ban. Good call on Bungie's behalf.

Bringing 3 guests in to make a party of eight and having them not ever move or play is
boosting. Helping the guys you were grouped up with get medals and such is boosting. Having the same group you've been partied up with for a number of games stop playing so you can get achievements is boosting.
