Isnt it great that Bungie wants to ban people for helping their friends get a really hard achievement? That they dont want us to get in some cases extremely hard medals or achievements, that the only way to get them is illegal? Must they make such hard accomplishments? This idea is terrible, and the "banhammer" is just a way to extend Bungie cockiness and arrogance. Way to go Bungie!

How did you figure this out? Certainly not through logic.

Bungie Pentathlon - who actually cares ?

Posted by: SwungMean
cut short....

This lack of paragraphing is causing my eyes to hurt......right time to analyze the latest rant:

The bungie.net/ban page doesnt say anything about achievements

Types of violation include, but are not limited to, the following example actions

You know its boosting, so why claim ignorance ? Stealing a fish or a car is still stealing and boosting skill or achievements is still boosting...
Again I quote Shishka:

If you're cheating to get Achievements, you're still cheating. The banhammer is aimed at the behavior, not the intent. "I was just trying to get Yorick" won't get you out of the EXP ban

Your either new to Halo or boosting another account since youve barely broke 100 games so either way i dont think you should tell me what to do especially if your actually boosting an account

I stopped playing Halo 3 MM a long time ago, the reason I have stopped is because of the constant abuse of the matchmaking system. Besides I am not the one to be scrutinised here, as unlike yourself, I have nothing to hide.

Your second paragraph of rant, is just pure guff and not related to your cheating...if you have an issue with the Lag etc, then please discuss it in the main forum and not spam this thread

Cheers

Nope, Bungie's stance is:

As is said on http://www.bungie.net/ban, it is not our problem if it is your brother, cousin, best friend, mom, dad, girlfriend, boyfriend, or kitten that got your console banned. If it turns out that your gamertag is suffering from their wrongdoing, that is an issue you'll have to take up with them - Shishka

So you are saying that if the going gets tough the tough get cheating ? If something is hard to do then the level of satisfaction you will get from obtaining whatever it is you are after is priceless. Saying that Bungie shouldn't part "hard accomplishments" in their game is perhaps one of the poorest backlashes I have heard.

The only way to get them is to get them properly. Banning people for cheating, no matter what context, is fine by me and every legit Halo gamer.

If you want something easy, boot up Army Men on the PS1 and go nuts.

I'm pissed because my roomate went and got his account banned from matchmaking and now I can't play matchmaking with my gamertag because apparently the box was banned as well.

Yeah it is unfortunate when this happens, but you are ultimately responsible for your gamertag and hardware (if it is yours)

Go on just one more:

I was trying to help a friend with an achievement (I have now read all the ban stuff so I now know Bungie's stance on this)

So why do it? If you know the stance then why break the rules? Just desserts matey

Does having this ban exclude me from anything? Like Bungie favourites or getting Recon if I get really good in next years team doubles valentine thing or something. Not that I ever will get those things but I'd like to know so i'm sure, thanks.

I don't think there is any definitve text from a Bungie rep regarding this, just sit tight and wait for the inevitable 1 million topics in the main H3 forum to pop up when its announced

Bungie favourites, no.
Recon, yes.

Also, you acquired the ban, so it's your own fault, and you can still play matchmaking with the Exp ban on.

Can you define "boosting"?

Manipulating the system's bungie use (Matchmaking)

If you want all the way's how it's done, that's a story for a different time.

See the emboldened bit? As in was not aware before but is now aware. As in I actually read the stuff at the beginning of the thread and Bungie's ban page and didn't bother just whining that I was only getting achievements.

It can really get on people's back (mine) when you just crow that you didn't get banned and you stuck within the rules. People who were banned do not come here to hear this, they want to know why they were banned, and in a few cases to just rant (Example: A couple of posts above, I think there was actually 10 -Blam!-'s in a row, quite a feat if the sentence was coherent before.)

This in particular, with the affected familiarity and your blatant arrogance, it really gets on my nerves. Okay, I broke the rules, I got banned, why rub it in when I seek help?

I've heard some stuff about vidmaster giving recon. I spent ages on those achs, legit, and I've helped loads of others with Annual and the skulls you can get. Can I not get recon through Vidmaster's? There's nothing really to aim for in this game if I can't and absolutely no point in getting ODST like I was going to if I can't get it, which sucks; the game actually looked pretty good.

Thanks for any replies, but please don't just say 'You shouldn't get it you cheated', Yes, I did cheat, unknowingly at the time, and I am already paying for that mistake, I just want answers, not people pointing and laughing like some posts I have seen in here.

Recon with vidmasters, there is no confirmation between bungie employee's stating anything about a person whom's banned being able, or not to get recon, so we'll have to wait and see unless it's confirmed beforehand.

Ok, maybe a tad harsh...but I don't trust the average Bungie net fourm user as far as I could throw them...seen too many who "didn't know"

If it is any consolation it should be a tad more visible in game....

~Wash, The /Thread.

I feel for you guys that recently got the EXP ban. I got it myself going for Yroick with 2 GT's and 6 guests, half of which were on guitars and wheels. I learned my lesson, and recently, like last weekend, I was partying up with some peeps I met in Team Mythic. When they started signing in guests to get perfections I bailed. Not too sure if I could get banned for getting a Perfection with friends, but I have revised my view of achievements. How did I achieve anything if my friends don't shoot back? That is why they are called Achievements, not boostments. PLay some DEXP with your ban, it helped me feel better, also try some 7 on 7th, its fun to prevent peoples from getting exp for a game or two.

No I don't. My brother has a Gamertag but it only had a one month subscription. He never uses it anymore and I haven't used it since I was doing the achievement on Dash of Destruction. (or maybe Fable 2...)

That's weird, I think your ban might be related towards Xboxlive instead of bungie.
I'd talk to them via phone/forums and double check.

we could press charge against bungie, achievement boosting is not forbidden we paid for the game and its addons so we are allowed to get the achievents on anyway (except for cheating) would it hurt someone if I have one achivement more? I guess no so bungie this is like counting peas ... its just stupid...
thats the way the cookie crumbles...

You could try, and you'd lose, and you'd most likely get counter sued.
When you created your bungie.net/Xbox live account, one of the agreements in the ToS, is not to cheat it lademends terms, which the whole idea of "Boosting" is cheating.

And that line, is over used on me, sing a new tune.

Should not the ban be used exclusively for players who try to place themselves above others in Halo, using methods other than Legit MM? Achievement hunting affects no other people than those involved, EXP and Rank boosting does, as they are in direct competition with other players and are gaining an unfair advantage.

Achievements are for no other person but the person who owns them, as in the person who 'achieved' them. ( Agree or disagree, they earned it by fulfilling the necessary requirements ) There is no direct competition between players as to gamerscore, which is to say, nothing pitches one player against another based on it, as in Halo MM.

Therefore, you can see that Achievement hunting has no effect on others. For those that say it devalues achs, that is another matter entirely and Bungie should not be concerned with it, it is not their problem. However beside the point it is though, it does not devalue achs in any way, as achs are personal as I have said. How Jim over the road or Bob Llewelyn got his ach does not affect me, nor does how I got my ach affect them. It is the same reward - for ourselves.

Many people glitched all of their GoW and Assassin's creed achs, which I put a lot of time into, but it doesn't matter to me because I personally put the time in and that only matters to me. Who cares if someone else didn't actually 'achieve' them? It's up to them what they do with themselves.

I am not saying that there should be no ban - it deters people from wrongdoing.
What I am saying is that achievement hunting is not wrongdoing and should not be treated as such, it does not have an effect on Halo MM in the slightest, and, as I have gone to great lengths to outline, does not affect anyone else.

I eagerly await at least one high and mighty brushing aside of all debate with a 'It's just wrong, end of.' The rest of you I have high hopes for, see the light.

lol

And what about the people that earn the achievements legit, all their hard work getting the harder achievements, while someone goes and boost's the same achievement.

Same with medals/exp/skill, some people try to achieve these thing's, then other's ruin the value of it for boosting these.

Prime example, what does a 50 mean now day's, boosted, brought? The value of 50's and what It's suppost to mean, is non existant, all the legitimate people whom earned their 50's, feel hatred towards the non legit ones, for ruining their experiance.

You use 50's as an example. Yes they put a lot of time in, but Halo is direct competition, and they have an easy way to show who deserves a 50, blow the other guy's brain out first ( to put it crudely ). Other people boosted them and are not as good and they get their ass handed to them and told to leave their name with the doorman on the way out.

Having a 50 is nothing, its having the skill to be 50. This is something that these players will always have and others will not.

Raising ranks to get above others - big no-no, I do not do this. Raising a non-competitive rank to get myself higher over no-one else - yes. As I did go to the trouble of pointing out:
