The system does not read intention, yes. It reads behavior, and your behavior is pretty much identical to exp boosting.

I have no idea, there's been a few cases of people being banned over forging in sandbox, but it seem's the ban's involving this case, they have been lifted, I've not seen anything from bungie or whatnot.

not in a row u -blam!- i -blam!- hate u smart ass ppl get used to it were not pefect and if i type bad so what

It's just pure laziness. Is it really that hard to use proper grammar?

Anyways, even if it wasn't in sequential games you still quit out of 533 games AND admitted to exp/achievement boosting.

I'd say your ban is well deserved.

I was playing GrifBall with a Bungie employee yesterday and as soon as the game started, some guy on the other team was like "You guys want to tie it up?" and then he saw the "Bungie" next to the gamertag and he was like "Oh -blam!-"

Just thought I'd share it.

Thanks cookie. We may have not seen eye to eye in the past. But I have found the error's of my ways. Keep up the good work. And I'll try to teach people in grifball about good sportsmanship when I get one of thier people on my team.

Canada isn't that important that it needs two of the same threads on page one.

Well since this is for most bans, I shall tell you my tale and maybe I will get unbanned.

It started at the end of December/beginning of January. While playing SWAT(I think), we saw someone with map that had the time and date and your name. I thought it was a glitch so I downloaded it and put it on my fileshare to see if I could do this. During this time I quit Halo 3 so my fileshare was untouched. As you can see here I started to stop then on 1/9/09, I quit for a month. That's when I was banned. The thing is, as I came back to Halo 3 I had found out that it was indeed modded. So as I went on, I was going to take it off and saw it was already taken off. I was like "I guess they took it off for me. Sweet." Then I tried to upload something and that's when I saw it. And for proof, here is my custom games too.

Can I please have my fileshare back?

If you've been EXP banned, and you believe yourself to be innocent, post here. But first, let's get some nonsense out of the way:

- If you're cheating to get Achievements, you're still cheating. The banhammer is aimed at the behavior, not the intent. "I was just trying to get Yorick" won't get you out of the EXP ban.
- No, people aren't getting banned just because they play a lot with their friends. There's a difference between boosting and actually playing with friends, and we can tell the difference.
- If you haven't been banned, you won't see a message that says you have. Be careful that you did not confuse what we call the "nag message" that we introduced after TU2 with a ban message. Don't try to stir people up by claiming to be unjustly banned when you are not.
- All EXP bans given out so far are considered "first offense" bans. Two weeks is the duration for a first offense. The degree and duration of ban increases if you're caught cheating again.
- As is said on http://www.bungie.net/ban, it is not our problem if it is your brother, cousin, best friend, mom, dad, girlfriend, boyfriend, or kitten that got your console banned. If it turns out that your gamertag is suffering from their wrongdoing, that is an issue you'll have to take up with them.
- If you are "not sure" if you've been banned, then you haven't been. People who get banned are notified very clearly.

That should cover it. Post away! Keep it civil. People who get belligerent about their ban, especially when it's justified, are just going to get themselves in more trouble.

[Edit] One other thing: This is now the ONLY thread for discussion on EXP bans. Any new threads created to argue a ban will get locked.

Ok so explain this one to me. I created a free one month xbox live account on my xbox, and then gave it to my friend. He recovers to his xbox console, and then quits out of a bunch of games of grifball(that I wasn't involved in mind you). This had nothing to do whatsoever with my console. Next time I go to get on I get a message saying my console has been banned from matchmaking for a week. I called microsoft about this and they directed me to bungie, but considering you guys don't have a phone number or anything I guess I'm forced to post on here. I guess what happened is the system banned my console because that is where the account was created. Could you guys actually look into this and unban my. console because I didn't do anything. Oh yeah and for people saying I deserve a ban let me say this clearly THE BANNED ACCOUNT WAS NOT ON MY XBOX IT WAS CREATED ON MY XBOX, THEN HE RECOVERED IT. I HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF THE QUITTING UNTIL I WAS BANNED AND FIGURED OUT WHAT HAPPENED. MY XBOX WAS OFF COLLECTING DUST.

Halo is great. Bungie is great.

now that action sack is here i have a questions. is it illegal to get a party and go try for acheivements in action sack? i was just wondering since skill or XP wouldn't play a factor. i reckon it is still illegal since cheating for acheivemnts is illegal as described in the first post but i want to know for sure. i was also wondering is there any way to report boosters and cheaters?

  • 06.06.2009 2:02 PM PDT

Bungie employees are not on the same page. I messaged achronos about this since Shishka doesnt want to reply to his own thread. This is what achronos said.

What you describe (using "dead" controllers as guests to shoot at) is a common technique of boosters. To the banhammer, it looks like you're boosting for EXP. It can't tell the difference between essentially cheating to get an achievement (which, although lame, isn't technically a bannable offense) and using dead guest controllers to boost for EXP.

We view this as a bonus, though, since what you're doing is rather lame and cheapens the achievement for everyone who gets it the "right" way.

So one says achievement boosting isnt a bannable offense and the other does. Which is it? Doesnt really matter since I wasnt achievement boosting. Bungie also doesnt seem to know their own achievements that well since I told him that we were getting a medal and he thought I was talking about the zombie achievements which I already got a month ago in rumble pit. Who seriously cant get 2 zombie and human kills?I think the banhammer has some serious flaws. 5 games trying to get a medal is considered exp boosting? Never does it say trying to get a medal is a bannable offense. Maybe if I went in 50+ games with the same party then I can understand being banned but 5 games? That 10 exp I got. That could make up for all the exp Ive lost because matchmaking boots me out of a game for no reason. Still connected to xboxlive, Just booted out of the game.

If you get exp banned can you increase your skill?

Yes, but if you purposly get banned just to increase your skill, you will most likely face a perm ban.

You'll be boosting stats, so yes, it's still cheating

And not really, the only way to report a cheater is to either pm an employee, or file a complaint.

In short, going for the achievement's is not an offence, but to get them achievements, you have to have someone stand still, while you kill them, and that, is bannable, so "technically speaking" going for achievements in the short run, is bannable.
