Here's the thing:
Halo is very much the same as Super Smash Bros on very many degrees.
Now before everyone either replies without reading, or skips by this, hear me out. They have a lot more in common than both of them having 3 games in total. So let's go through each game one by one...
When Smash 64 and Halo:CE came out, it was kinda slow, easy to grasp, and everyone was at least "pretty good" at it...
When Halo 2 and Smash Melee came out, you almost had to completely change your fighting/shooting styles. The game got much faster and much more skill related. The skill, though, came nearly completely from your efficiency with a controller (bxr and bxb, etc for halo; wavedashing, L-cancel, teching, etc for Smash).
Smash Brawl and Halo 3...probably the most hated out of the three......on BOTH sides of the spectrum. Brawl and Halo 3 were too much of a change from their previous game. You can't lead targets in halo 3 anymore, it was easier to determine enemy health (not to mention the sniper glitch that is still lingering around). Smash Brawl was much slower and it tried to give a balance between all characters, while ridding itself of the "technical" moves, as did Halo 3 with ridding of bxr.
In short, I can say this: Halo 2 was more controller-skill based; fast fingers and faster reflexes are required to achieve greatness... Halo 3? That's anybody's game lol
