I understand why we can't have custom avatars, so don't bother repeating it to me. I'm wondering what you think of the idea of having the ability to use uploaded or linked images for avatars after meeting some requirement like participating in the forum without being warned for long enough, or having a moderator grant that privilege or something. I think that very few people would jeapardize that hard-earned right by posting something inappropriate for this forum. I think some of us other than the moderators should be able to use cusom avatars as well.

I agree completley, but with the Avatar Contest in the next week or so going to anounce the winners *cough* I find that there will be some un-expected avatars *cough* that will please some people for the time being *cough*.

Once again, good luck to whoever entered the contest.

It's already been explained why custom avatars are not allowed. It would take too much time to check them and to activate them, so you can't do it.

That's why I suggested having the privilege be earned. I don't think many people are going to spend long enough here to earn custom avatars just to show some stoopid lewdness.

Altough i like the idea, i'm afraid that it might cause too much bragging rights. So how long do you have to be a nice boy? 3 months, half a year, an entire year maybe?
Besides, even if you never caused problems, there are thousands of people who don't do anything wrong, so there still might be too much checking.

It's possible that something like you're referring to could be implemented down the road. I agree with your logic and we have been talking about ways to reward members who are active and contribute positively to our site. We have a lot of plans and ideas that we're discussing but right now we're all tied up plugging in the cool Halo 2 clan/stat stuff so it's going to be a little while before we will have time to make some of these changes. Hang in there, and please keep the ideas and suggestions coming!

On this other forum I'm on, you can have custom avatars. But because of some security reasons (It says SSL secured 128 Bit in) they have to upload every avatar to the database or something and because its a forum for everybody they have to check every avatar before they are uploaded. Its 1 avatar per user but they have 69427 member so its allot to do... But thats not the worst part, there is only 1 guy to approve/upload the avatars!

Why not make some sort activation codes. When, for example, you shop at the bungie e-store, you receive a custom avatar code in your inbox :)

(if you shop at the store you're probably pretty serious)

Good idea, maybe we can refine it a little. I'll think about it. Great work :)

it would be a killer idea, but notice how Sketch says it's possible . I wouldn't start getting too excited yet. At least there should hopefully be a few new ones to use out of all the ones submitted recently. (though yes i know they won't be custom) I know I'm getting kinda tired of my dead grunt. lol

With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

I'd like to have them... but there are WAY too many immature people on these forums...

I think it should be like you donate 10 bucks and u get a custom avatar (of which must be approved of course). Im sure most people wouldn't pay 10 bucks only to abuse the priviledge.

Look on the bright side Shai Hulud, that means they need to check a lot less avatars, since only the good and nice people can get them.

Hey Saw (since rip is just an adjective,, lol) you basically have a custom avatar now anyhow. I don't think anyone is gonna take your unique 7 away from ya.

I think it's a great idea, but it's a quite difficult to implement without any problems. Whatever the outcome, there will be a drawback--either some poor B.net staffer will get backlogged, or not everyone will get an approval, or...something. By the way, what IS the reason we can't have custom avatars? I just got here.

Reason wecan't have custom avatars is because then the mods would have to watch the forums and avatars, and it would probabaly overwhelm them.
