Do you think that other units in the game will have their own ammo counts?? Maybe i havent looked into it enough on halo1 but if a marine uses up so much ammo in his BR will he have to go find a replacement weapon?

just wondering. cos it'd be cool if marines warn you "I'm running low!!" and stuff like that. Or a pinned down elite starts to run out of battery for his plasma rifle and you can hear it starting to do that near-empty noise.

Agreed Zamamee, but if you're playing in easy or something, (we all know how hard it is to have a marine killed by something not you in that one), it would be good if they had to switch weapons!

Would add another level to the game...

I might have heard summut (could be HL2 actually) a while back to say you can swop weapons with marines... ???

That would be great. Though sometimes in Halo when playing flood levels I swear I can hear them reloading. Maybe I'm just crazy...

It'd be nice to see that idea incorporated into the gameplay of Halo 2, but I doubt it will.

It is a good idea, but not very likely.

just think of the possibilitys, let the enemy keep shooting you until they're out of ammo. then you move in gun blazing.....

Well inside the E3 demo from last year this was said.

" No no behind tha ST! " marine 1

" Yeah yeah yeah! " marine 2

" Three more coming left! " marine 1

" I'm running low man! " marine 2

With that last line....maybe they do run out of ammo.

Maybe that'll be new innovation for halo2.

Maybe, but I thought that was scripted, just so it gave the feel of a real battle going on!

I guess it was scripted yeah. But it would be so great if ammo was a factor for enemies and allies. Cos its a major consideration in a real-life (i know i know) situation.

Giving the marines their own ammunition counters solves one forseeable problem. If you can swap weaons with them, then you can hand them your Rocket Launcher and watch him go nuts with the infinite ammunition that marines so enjoy.

Now, if they have their own ammunition counters then handing one of the marines your rocket launcher or sniper rifle means they'd just waste all of your ammunition. Hopefully, this also means that marines will be smarter, using their special weapons only when needed and otherwise resorting to their SMG or Magnum pistol until they see a vehicle to rocket.

The other benefit to weapon counters is against enemies. It encourages stealth. Using stealth to eliminate enemies has a significant advantage. If they haven't fired at you then you score an unused weapon with full battery.

that happens anyway, if they fire, you get one on about 70 - 90 ammo, if they dont fire its a free 100 usually!

I'm a stealth player and I take out Elites fairly often before they know what's going on. Very rarely are their plasma rfles at 100% That's always irked me.

Not that would be the best part about it man! Just think it would make the elites more conservative like you have to be. It would also make it very interesting when you got into an engagement with jackals. what happens when they're ammo out? or grunts for that matter? I can just see a grunt trying to melee attack. lol. No but in the E3 2003 demo right after the part where they say im running low man you get another smg from an injured soldier, and that looked like gameplay. I'll bet that the marines have to find ammo too. It was annoying/a blessing when a marine would unload 50 shots from the sniper in a row and never run out of ammo. I'll bet that there will be more ammo aroudnt eh leveles but this time you'll have to compete for it. Maybe they'll pick up health too.

*grins* You wouldn't have to compete for the ammunition, just let the marine's take the ammo and then switch weapons with them.

i can imagine a squad of marines having to share their ammo out amongst them, or pick up dropped weapons on the battlefield. Perhaps they could even behave differently depending on circumstance, if there is a nice stash of ammo they would be a little more gun happy, otherwise they'd be careful not to waste ammo... Hmm.

Halo:ce was so original and breath-taking when it came out, who knows what halo2 is going to bring that we dont know about yet! We might not know some of the new features until it comes out!

Well, it's not like there won't be a selection of weaponry. There's fallen marine's ammunition and then there's always Covenant weaponry. In Halo1 they were scripted with their alien weapons in hand, now they'll just have to pick them up on their own.

Sudden scary thought. Imagine you could command your Marines in plain English. "Okay, now, the entire squad, all 12 of you switch to needlers and lay down suppression fire!"

Gack! That's a lot of purple.

  • 07.09.2004 8:26 AM PDT

In halo 1, i notced that the marine inside the construct on 343 guilty spark who thinks your a flood and shoots you with his pistol does reload after sixteen shots. The animation for the reloading was not there, he remained pointing his pistol at me, and i heard the noise, then he was firing again.
