Subject: H1 Avalanche vs. H3 Avalanche

I personally think that the remake of the amazing map Avalanche is worse then Guardian and Lockout. Avalanche on Halo was simple, there was a tank, a banshee, a few warthogs, a sniper, and a few rockets. The new Avalanche is so disorganized, in my opinion. You have weapons that look like they were put there by a 5 year old. The snipers are way to close to each other, a hornet?! I mean, come on, not even a splazer can take that down without the help of a tank or something. I hate it, what do you think of the two.

Halo 1's style of gameplay means that any remake, no matter how exact, will fall short of its ancestor.

Halo 1 seems completely different from halo 3 multiplayer, i barely remember the halo 1 games i used to play with my friends. But the maps were great in their time and nothing could be compared to them or created to out run their legacy...

I'm in the US Air Force stationed in Alaska. I've been chillin on bnet for nearly 5 years now.

I never was a fan of sidewinder to begin with, it was a ton of cross map pistoling and seemly random encounters while going through portals.

With Avalanche, I found the lack of any difference in driving physics displayed a lack of insight. Adding studded tires is no excuse, I loved the ice patches and tracks that vehicles would leave on Sidewinder.

somewhere in the heavens...they are waiting. I love the Marathon Trilogy.
Halo CE will always be the best game in the Halo franchise. What a perfect game.
(Proud LONGTIME owner of the PC and Xbox versions of Halo CE)

Avalanche is nothing like Sidewinder, it doesn't take very long to get to other base with man cannons and teleports.

So very true, sadly Sidewinder is my all time favourite Halo map.

Avalanche is one of the most depressing things about Halo 3. It's nothing like Sidewinder. You can only do so much with forge to recreate it, and I've tried. It's rather disappointing. It's sad to see what the series has become.

One of the most depressing? I'm still waiting for the M6D and non-recharging health...

I miss Halo. Maybe Halo 4 will change that.

Edit: Lol nope

Are you an idiot or do you play on yellow bar everyday.

Hornet is always 1 shotted by the laser, god the hornet has even been weakened it now has no missiles and weaker bullets, and who cares, if it was remade exactly the same it would bore the crap out of me.

Well, Halo: CE and Halo 3 are two different games, with two different styles of game play. Sure, they have their similarities and differences, but in my opinion, you can't really compare two maps that were made almost six years apart.

All I have to say is... it's called Sidewinder, noob. :D

Just message me on live.

The major difference between Sidewinder and Avalanche is how easy it is to go through the center on Avalanche.

Without me, it's just "Aweso".

In terms of layout, yes. In terms of gameplay... Avalanche is lacking what Sidewinder had, on so many levels...

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

I don't have the legendary maps.

I loved sidewinder It had alot of cool aspects like slippery ice (which in h1 the warthogs actually slipped on)It seemed bigger and it took longer to cross. It didnt have man canons which are not bad but it did make avalanch alot more fast paced.I think what everyone here is saying is that sidewinder is better in a lot of ways.I do like avalanch because of hornets and the cool man canons and neat desighn but I must admit I like the original better.

One of the first 20 to beat Halo 3 on Mythic (Solo Legendary All Skulls On), in the later half I'm guessing
I notice time that light has reflection for, like the rainy magic of nobody else on a lovely day.

While I do like the old Sidewinder better, Avalanche is still a lot of fun! A laser can take down a hornet easily too. A warthog can even take a hornet one on one. I think it's a nice addition. I do agree with you about the sniper placement. Still, it far from ruins the map for me, that's for sure.

Slay your friends
Slay your enemies
Slay your friends' enemies

It's Halo: Reach

well, in sidewinder there are plasma rifles. in avalanche, there's no plasma rifle anywhere . I don't like that.

But the inclusion of all possible vehicles in Halo 3 to avalanche, makes avalanche a very cool vehicle-fight-map.

I prefer Avalanche. :)

Sidewinder is better IMO because it's bigger.

Explain please?

I like Sidewinder more, because I feel it has more variety. You could go on foot and still make it to the enemy base, and vehicles took skill/thinking to use effectively.

  • 10.25.2008 1:12 PM PDT

With Sidewinder you had 3 options, all frought with danger. With Avalanche, you still have the same 3 options of getting to the other base, it's just that the going through the tunnel one has less danger. The thing with Sidewinder is that it was a map to play if you had time to burn, for while it was the funnest map in my opinion, it took forever to get even one capture. With Avalanche, they had Matchmaking to think of. Bungie couldn't make it a slow playing map, so they added Mancannons and made the middle easier to get through. I don't like what Bungie did to Avalanche, but they had a good reason.

Smitetastic!

Wort wort wort...hog.

"Let's see, left, make an L with your hand..."
"I'll just assume it's the bleeding one."
"Yes, the bleeding one."

I must say that Sidewinder is a much better map than Avalanche.
