Halo 1.

Intel Q6600 @ 2.4GHz
8800GT 512
2G DDR2

For some strange reason, when I play Blood Gulch (didn't get the chance to test other maps, BG is all I play) the framerate stutters when I look out towards the middle of the map. Normally I should be getting around 450FPS, but it seems to hover around 70FPS 60% of the time, and when looking towards/am in the middle of the map, the FPS stutters in such a way that it almost becomes unplayable. It's not just a low framerate, otherwise it would be manageable. Sometimes I see the map flicker into blackness too, but it's rare when that happens. Even if I'm the only one in a server of my own it still happens.

What could be happening? What can I try to help fix this problem?

That's the number of bans in this thread. Next time you want to derail something, go stand in front of a train.

Maybe there was something wrong when installing the game for blood gulch, still works just that maybe your computer didn't get the map properly. Just a guess, not sure.

According to Google the Q6600 is a quad core processor yes?

Halo doesn't like more than one, that should solve your problem.

That definetly helped. I'm not sure if the problem is 100% gone, but I haven't experienced anything since. Thanks.

Is there a reason why decals may do this in Vista?

Did you get an error about insufficient RAM or virtual memory when you first installed halo on vista? I think the glitches have something to do with that.

Must be some sort of memory leak going on that causes the framerate to drop over time and for glitches to start showing up.

Thinking of something witty to write here since 2004...

Yeah for some reason decals running on a Vista PC with an 8 series video card severely cuts down FPS.
