Subject: llama's guide to halo 2 for new guys.

All throughout history great empires rise and fall. How you ask?
Two reasons:
1. Economic failure because of either inflation or socialistic programs.
2. War. Their armies were spread too thin and too far from home.

The United States has bases all around the world in "hazardous" areas and it's economy collapses it seems every 20 years. Do you really think that history won't change? Do you really think that you can run the world?

Before you start asking "Why won't my halo 2 online work!??!" just read this:

When you bring up halo 2 for the first time on your 360, you will be like "HOW DO i SIGN IN?!?!" here is my guide.

When you start up halo 2, it will ask you to press "start", if you press that, a little box will come up, asking you to select a profile, if you don't have one, just create one(or use default). After you press A to select your profile you will be asked to select an Xbox Live Gamertag, select one, register, or don't sign in. Once you are done with that, there will be a menu. There might be parental controls on your xbox, so f you can't sign in or boot up halo 2, as someone I know would say, sux2bu.

1. Campaign
Once you select Campaign, you will be asked either to play by yourself or play Co-Op. NOTE: You are not able to play halo 2 co-op online with other people. Co-op in this case is split-screen. If you choose Co-op, you must create another profile for your friend. You can change the level, change the difficulty, or change to split-screen.

2. Xbox Live
Once you select this and press A you will be taken into a screen with four boxes and you at the top-left(if your controller is in slot 1), here you can sign in guests. Pressing A again will take you to Content Download, optimatch, Quickmatch, and create your own party, if you choose optimatch you will be asked to select a playlist.

Quickmatch just sends you into the playlist last played in Optimatch(default is Rumble Pit).

Create you own party is where you can play Custom Games.

Content Download allows you to download all the free(I repeat, FREEEEEEEEEE) content, advise doing something while you are waiting, they take a long time to download(remember, it might need downloading again). To download again, go to your xbox dashboard, go to "games played", select halo 2, and delete the map packs.

You can sign guests in at the pregame lobby also.

Matchmaking takes a little while longer than halo 3 does, so just be patient.

Playing halo 3 then halo 2 affects how long you load the maps, so I suggest just going into a custom game and loading at least one map first.

Playing halo 2 then halo 3 will erase all your recent films, maps, and gametypes.

There are four types of messages you can receive in halo 2, friend request, clan invite, Party invite, and just simple message. The different looks of them you will have to just memorize.

Press Y to bring up your friends list, you can go left and right also, left is recent players, and right is to the clan.

3.Split-Screen
Same beginning as xbox live, you can sign in friends.

You can change the map and gametype here, as well as go to co-op.

4. Options
Here you can either create and edit your own profiles, or you can create and edit gametypes.

Any questions, ask here or pm me.

I might edit it at a later time.

Clans:

Clans are pretty much a second friends list, you can have your own clan matches(it was a playlist in matchmaking but bungie took it out) or you can just play with some of the members.

Note: You cannot have the word "Bungie" in your clan name, I don't know why but its just a complication you will have to deal with.

Roles:

Peon-only way to get this is if you get degraded from member, can be booted, lowest role

Member-starting role, can be booted

Staff-Can promote Members and peons, can be booted, can boot

Overlord- Can promote everyone, if you create the clan you are in you start with this rank, you CANNOT be booted, but you can boot. You can't be "deranked" once you get this role.

You could have different branches with your clan, like 510 Bay(JOIN JOIN JOIN!!!!) or RTG.

How to boot/degrade: When you are a Staff or an Overlord, select the member you want to boot/degrade, there you have all of the options.

Any questions pm me or post here.

Could be edited at a later date.

I <3 your sister.

More on-topic, I thank you for this. I was pretty much completely relying on word of mouth (particularly with clans) and this has helped quite a bit. Thanks.

Very nice!

Maybe you could also put in some troubleshooting, since a lot of the questions being asked have to do with two things:
1. When the downloads go bad (for either console), what to do. There's two or three topics a week and we all tell them to keep trying to dl, or delete the maps (and how to do that) and clear the cache (and how to do that). Over and over we write it.
2. When they're stopped from signing-on the first thing to do is check Family Settings. This one comes up over and over too.

for clans:
members cannot promote peons
and the beginning role is member
lowest role is peon which is not allowed to do much in the clan

Everyone is entitled to their own wrong opinion.

I'm part of the Bungie.net Minecraft group/server called SeptaCrafters
We're a Bungie.net group that goes to our very own Bungie server. Most players are from the Halo community either off Bungie itself or through word to Halo friends.

So from the standpoint of a mod how exactly do you boot and rank up people? Since I'm just a member I am unaware what takes place behind the scenes.

I <3 the above poster.

I've tried downloading the update, twice, and then signing in to LIVE, but a message keeps popping up saying "Xbox LIVE has sent you an important message; Option 1) Go to Account Management- Option 2) Continue offline." What do I do? I've tried clearing the cache, and I don't have any downloaded content for Halo 2.

That message usually means there's either trouble with your account, connection or the Family Settings are not set to allowed.
Make sure your account is up to date.
Test your connection via the System/Network Settings/Test Media Settings page on your dashboard.
Look to see if the System/Family Settings/Console Control/Access to Xbox Live page is set to allowed. You may want to check the Game Ratings to make sure it's set to Allow All Games, while you're on the Access to Xbox Live page.
Of course, you know by now where the map file memory and cache is stored, but it doesn't sound like that is your problem.

Edit; It now works fine =D I got my parents to sign in using their Window Live ID, and it turns out there's an option to block Original Xbox Online Games, and for some reason that was set to "Blocked". I just switched that, and it's sweet =D. Thanks guys.

Okay, quick little question. I don't consider myself a n00b by any means, I've played all three of the Halo Games through all the way to Legendary difficulty (Halo 3 on various other accounts) but there's something I just can't figure out in Halo 2, that no source seems to tell me, and it might seem ridiculous, but it's driving me crazy.

I figured out how to do this in Halo 1 and 3 without much difficulty, but it has completely eluded me in Halo 2, and that is: How do you hide your weapon?

It might not seem like a big deal, but in Red Vs Blue and most other online Machinima based on the Halo series, most characters lower their weapons to seem more realistic, and it just irks me when I'm playing through campaign with a friend, and I stare at him, and he stares at me, and that little tick at the back of my head says 'God, that must be uncomfortable holding that weapon at the ready for so effing long'.

who would start playing halo 2 now its 2008 not 2004

How do you hide your weapon?

Pull the L trigger, but hold it. Your weapon will be down when others view you.
