I was thinking about this the other day after playing 343 Guilty Spark, and decided to post the idea here for discussion. What if the Covenant Prophets, after realising or finding out (from the Oracle aboard High Charity) that they needed Humanity to start their "Great Journey", they deliberatly released the Flood, in an attempt to goad Humanity into igniting the rings? or otherwise deliberatly released the Flood in an attempt to slaughter Humanity once and for all? While I realise this plan backfired in a big way, is it not possible?

well if this theory is true, then is clear that the Prophets are real retards, cuz they could've simply captured one human then use him/her to activate halo

They hadnt thought of that maybe? Maybe thats the real reason they captured Captain Keyes? And the reason that they spread was actually just a cover so that the Elites, Grunts, etc, didnt twig to the fact that the prophets are powerless and cowardly fools who cant start their own party?

To play or not to play....

At first the Covenant had no idea what Halo was. All they knew was that it was designed and built by the Forerunners and as such was considered holy. The Covenant had found other holy relics and usually tried to protect them or take them back to High Charity.

The Flood was not known until well after it was released. The Covenant thought they were going to a weapons cache. In reality the Covenant misunderstood the Forerunner information that told them of the weapons cache. It was actually where specimens of the Flood were being stored for research.

The Covenant marched in and started snnoping around. Then the infection forms escaped and infected a few Elites. The rest is history. Humans show up and get infected as well. Keys gets captured and the rest is well known.

The Covenant didn't know about the Flood until well after its release and they hated and feared the Flood more than anyone else.

Even if they released the Flood to take care of humans it would be a stupid plan. The Flood attack anything and allowing it to feed, breed and gain strength just means that sooner or later the Flood will attack the Covenant and be in a much better position to do so.

Truth (Fortitude), after discovering the humans' true relation to the forerunner, declared war on them, in order to prevent the Covenant from falling apart from the revelation - that their religion was wrong. This pretty much meant they weren't going to be gods, and if their beliefs were even partially right, than humans, not the Covenant would become gods. He continued the search for relics and is responsible for most of the Covenants' actions in the series. The Flood were just another unknown for Truth, one that furthered the fact that their religion was wrong.

If you gave up on that, because I'm such a huge nerd, than no, because the Flood were unknown to the Covenant and they wanted to contain it, not knowing the true function of the rings.

Badass Elite units

I agree on the most part but in halo 2 the arbiter and truth talk about the flood as if they have met it before they found the halos

if im not mistaken, the arbiter (or the elite who became the arbiter) was on installation 05 (halo 1)...or maybe im mistaking him for someone else...

The Arbiter in Halo 2 and 3 was the Supreme Commander on Installation 04.

Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

though it isn't a bad theory (certainly not the worst i've seen on these forums) it doesn't pan out with what has happened. truth may be manipulative, but he used johnson at the end of the series out of despiration, not careful planning. truth has a serious disdain for humans. the theory mentioned earlier about him going after them once learning their connection to the forerunner, while not verified in anything i've seen or know about, makes a lot of sense.

considering how long the covenant have been mining out forerunner relics and artifacts before they even encountered humans, their understanding of the forerunners past definately exceeds that of humans. at least truth's understanding, before he skewed it for his benefit and control of the covenant.

i personally was a little dissapointed to hear the declaration of guilty spark that humans are forerunners. i always knew that they were some type of ancestor, i just didn't think it would be a direct descendant, i thought that was a little too spoon fed. i would have prefered that humans remained just "reclaimers", a race partial to the forerunners, but not directly "of" them.

Fair enough, looking back at it it was kinda half cooked. All of these points above are excellent, and the ones with facts to back them up are even better.

My family is 100% Italian and we fit that role perfectly. My brothers 17 and goes to a private Catholic high school, this kid is one funny son of a -blam!-, he was getting laid in 8th grade which blew my mind being five years old than him.

K, so fast forward... I'm sure some of you have heard of shadow days were kids can visit other high schools to see if they want to go there. We'll my brother who well call Paul went to shadow a friend at another private school. Little did Paul know his friend handed in no forms for him to be there so the day was already off to a bad start.

First period begins and he starts his -blam!-, his friend introduces him as a Cambodian foreign exchange student who speaks very little English. The teacher bought right into it and was talking to him like he was five. Little later in class he goes to the bathroom with his friend comes back with paper towels stuffed in his coat and bows to the teacher for letting him use the bathroom. While he was in the bathroom the teacher gave a whole speech about accepting other peoples backgrounds because you don't know what its like where they live, so he totally believed it. End of class my brother hands the teacher a picture of him (the teacher) and my brother with spears killing a cow and says thank you. This is where he -blam!- up because I think it finally hit him what was happening.

He takes the drawing to the principal who says WTFBBQ there's no Cambodian foreign exchange student here, they find him pull him out of class and call his real school where he's already walking a thin rope. He gets sent home, my moms in tears thinking he's going to get expelled, his meetings tomorrow morning on the schools decision.

So GAF, would you expel my brother if you were the principal at his school? Our meetings at 7 AM tomorrow morning and I have to go with him since our mom works and our dad's passed away. I really think he'll get off fine with a week or so of detention but it could get ugly, should be interesting. Whatchaaa think?!

the only reason that i don't think this would have happened is because truth would have known beforehand what he was releasing. i don't even think his deephatred for humanity and what they are is enough to cause him to risk the entire galaxy, not to mention jeopardize his own plans.

who knows though, he was a pretty off-kilter guy.
