Hey I know alot of you have played a LAN(local area connection)game before and I was wondering what it was like does it have lag?

No, at least the delay is so small that it is unnoticeable and has no impact on gameplay. It is significantly smoother than Xbox Live.

And yes, it is extraordinarily fun. Once you've played some LAN games with your friends in Halo 1, you'll understand why most people on this forum think it is the greatest in the series :)

Well, if it's your first time, you might want to get some snacks and turn up the volume, because you're highly unlikely to go anywhere any time soon.

somewhere in the heavens...they are waiting. I love the Marathon Trilogy.
Halo CE will always be the best game in the Halo franchise. What a perfect game.

Oh its fun, a blast! No lag in sight unless you are somehow playing over the internet, then there is lag.

Me and my friends had one for Halo 2. I think there was 16 of us, we didn't have any lag at all. The best night of Halo I have ever had :)

I've never played Halo: Combat Evolved over LAN, but I've had several LAN parties for Halo 2. I've only experienced lag once, and I think it was caused by my router over heating. You'll find that LAN is far more fun than Xbox LIVE, though.

Bungie Pentathlon - who actually cares ?

It is a great experience and for me nothing Xbox Live can give us can better the LAN parties

  • 10.29.2008 6:58 AM PDT

It’s all cyclical...

We used to have LAN parties on Halo CE about once every 2 weeks or so. Whether it was 2 of us or 16 it was always awesome!
After playing a lot of MM on Halo 3, the lag really becomes a factor, something that does not exist with a LAN set-up.

My favorite group.

LAN matches are a blast. 3+ hours every match. Never gets boring.

Oh my gosh, you poor deprived child! You have not experienced the Halo series until you have experienced a Halo 1 LAN party. Halo 1 parties are honestly one of the highlights of my life, not kidding. The first one I went to was AMAZING!

And to answer your question, no there is no lag. But make sure you use the original Xboxs only. For some maps the 360s go out of sync and you lose connection, one of those maps is Blood Gulch (you also have not experienced the Halo series until you have played 4v4 CTF at Blood Gulch), but Hang 'em High works and some other maps do too.

You can use 360s but they almost always go out of sync at Blood Gulch.

I was in a fraternity in undergrad, we always had LAN games. We played pretty much everyday.

Great times, and we even made it into a drinking game.

I remember 2001-2002. My friends came over, we had pizza and Mountain Dew, we turned on music and played Halo all day. It was really fun. We even do that with Halo 3 now.

imo, it is more fun than playing halo 2 or halo 3 on xbox live, but it takes time to set up and people that are willing to bring over tvs and xboxes.

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

awwww the good ole days of LAN, 8 xbox's, 8 tv's, 14-30 people (we'd host tourney's sometimes) and a whole bunch of food. i miss those days man, still in highschool only working part time, friend had a huge garage to set up in, the trash talk, the 4 hour games of ctf. with all the cool things that xbl has brought with it, it certainly killed the LAN.
