Yax is a shining beacon in these dark times. You should all strive to be more like Yax.

I don't know a lot about coding, this I will admit. But the fact of the matter is if someone is saying, "This can be done and this and this..." And it leads to something being discovered or close to being discovered, maybe it could somehow be prevented?
Or maybe it isn't such a big deal and hasn't got a lot to do with scripts.

If somebody finds a method of messing with the site, they will be dealt with and the problem will be fixed. I trust that a team of professionals won't be out-smarted by a couple of kids with a hobby.

Which is exactly the reason no one should tell others about the exploit. No one can be trusted because if it gets into the wrong hands it could harm the community, which is what happened in this situation.
You could apply this logic to anything.

...your point? What can I say, nobody can be trusted. You reveal something and someone will take advantage of the given opportunity and find a way to abuse it. It was a joke until it got into the wrong hands. The only it got into the wrong hands was because someone found a way to exploit the BBcode. This would've never happened if he/she kept it to themselves.

If nobody can be trusted then why allow user created content to be uploaded on this site?

But we do, because we slated down rules for that everyone is supposed to follow, but that's not necessarily the case. There are rule breakers on this site. You can't just assume everyone will be responsible and not do anything that could possibly harm anyone.

But this has nothing more to do with scripting than nuclear weapons in the hands of terrorists has to do with nuclear physicists. Simply because they were more closely connected than usual in this particular case does not mean that they always will be, nor that the discovery of this BBCode came directly from his (do we really have to leave the name out?) scripting. It could quite as easily have come from just everyday messing around, and knowing him it probably did.

It didnt come from a script, he just worked it out by messing around.

All I was trying to get across was that the exploit shouldn't have been shown to the public. He never wanted anything bad to happen. But it was because he revealed it to the public and someone took advantage of the exploit.

Which is absolutely true... but, again, has absolutely nothing to do with the scripting side of things, which is what this thread is supposed to be about.

I think that the majority of people commenting on this are getting worked up unnecessarily. What happened is not a good thing, no, it was a very bad thing--I think we can all agree on that. The only reason scripting would be restricted is if one wanted to discourage people from learning about the coding process and being able to discover similar breaks in the future, though; an, again, he didn't learn this from coding, although his coding knowledge might have assisted him. Scripting is only connected to this issue second-hand, and unless it's going to be nuked entirely off the public forums there would be no real stoppage of users learning about this branch of knowledge. Thus, there's absolutely no reason either way to even be discussing any regulatory systems.

In my opinion, of course.

I only brought up my case when it was said that the exploit wasn't harmful until someone took advantage of it, which is the reason why no exploit like that should be revealed.

I may have only gotten worked up because I was a victim of seeing a couple of things that cannot be unseen.

I'll leave it at that.

Does anyone have a script to change your title bar color and name to something custom?

There's Coup, but that is currently offline.

I like Duardo's idea... I don't like the idea of coming here one day to find this site broken in some way shape or form. Or even something similar to last months incident.

All hail Duardo.
It would only be broken for you if someone made a script that broke the site and you downloaded it.

Or if someone learned enough from playing around with it and could come here and do something like they publicly did last month, remember?
What does that have to do with bungie.net scripts?

"It's not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me."

I have spoken with Achronos regarding my concerns. Obviously it is up to every individual to accept whether he wants to download a script or not. However, a script that steals information is the same thing as a "MS Point Generator" and the person can be banned for posting such a thing.

Any user that finds ANY exploit is to contact Achronos about it, and is to not share that information with anyone else. Achronos checks all of his messages. If you feel Achronos did not receive the message, please contact myself.

My concerns are now lifted. I believe that scripts are great and powerful, and I trust you guys, but with that power can come great things and terrible things. I realize the image exploit wasn't due to scripts, but I feel that without this thread existing, it may not have happened. That's me though.

So let us produce scripts and keep going strong. This is just another flat tired on our road to an awesome Bungie.net experience.

I am just starting to use scripts and I can see how awesome this stuff can be. I can't wait to see what else people can make.

Can you please direct me to the page, if any, where coup being offline is explained (estimation of when it will be back, if it will be, etc.)?
