PHWEW (wipes sweat off forehead) I finally made it through all 26 pages! This is an amazing thread, and these ideas are really great. Here's an idea: y'know how Cortana (I think) said how Halo had a maximum effective radius of around 25,000 light years? Well, unless the weapon, whatever it is, travels through slipspace then it would take most likely take around 25, 000 years to fully wipe out everything. ...which could bring up some more interesting ideas...also, I think Halo-story-wise it explains what wiped out the dinosaurs.

also, I have a little theory pertaining to the pyramids. MAYBE, just MAYBE the forerunners built the pyramids themselves. they built them as a big post-it notes to remind them of something. maybe they decided that they'd committed enough atrocities with the flood and having to activate the Halos, and wanted to start out with a clean slate. so they did something to erase their memories, but made the pyramids before as a reminder of something...or to tell them where their creations were when they were advanced enough to be able to go to them. it's kinda like the concept in 50 First Dates...Drew Barrymore's character loses her memory every night, so she and others make things to refresh her memory the next day. the forerunner wiped themselves clean, but made the pyramids as a reminder and a map.

OR

here's another one...lol...I know these aren't the best ideas but hey, you never know...
one of the Multlplayer levels in Halo 2 is in an underground cavern with a GIANT chunk of some Forerunner compound in the middle. What I kinda start to interperet this asv(and it makes a lot of sense, too)...Maybe the pyramids are markers to forerunner things UNDER them. that would explain why a multiplayer level is underground inside of a cavern that looks like it's made out of Sandstone or some other kinda desert-ish rock. that would also explain the zillions of booby traps and mazes that are laden throughout the pyramids; the Forerunners don't want anyone getting in until they're ready (i.e. smart enough to get through the booby traps and mazes alive) to get in.

dunno, that's just some random speculation that hit me just now.

hehehe...I said "booby"

Someone earlier mentioned something about the 9th reclamation or somthing which got me started... why does 343 guilty spark call Master chief the Reclaimer? Could it be that the Master Chief is destined to reclaim the galaxy for the forerunners? I don't knwo but there has to be somthin there.

ok im not going to make a quote casy and make everyone hate me ok.. but my theory is a little bit of an expansion on casy's maybe the pyramids hous more flood, and maybe why there are so many of them is because the others point to halo's so in case the flood are released then the humans would know where to activate them and finish of the flood.. and MAYBE the stone layers are just an expansion of the pyramids and under the stone there is really a pyramid that looks alot like the control room.. but then again i have another sort of theory (more a question or a speculation) in assault on the control room cortana says "the section of the ring is expierincing inclamet weather, i wonder if the weather in this part of the ring is malfunctioning, or if the rings creators wanted this section to be cold" now this malfunction could not have been caused by the flood because they were still locked away in that structure taht keyes went to... so this imply's that the forerunner wanted the control room to be cold, so wouldnt it be more likely located somewhere colder IE:canada or poles just becaused bungie is feeding us info about new mombosa it doesnt mean there is ANYTHING important about africa it might just be the covenents landing place because it was closest or heaviest populated..

I just finished assult on the control room a few mintues a go and I noticed something. Throughout the level you see forerunner walls broken open by the covies, they were looking for something, what if what they were looking for was on earth. like the artifact in First Srike were the covies were digging Reach looking for it. Then they find something that leads them that way, but the flood come, well u know the rest.

I just wanna says something about this before any one tears my idea to shred I don't think the covenant intentionally landed because of the pyramids or if they did it was simply because they might have seen them space, thought they had religious segnificance and decided to destroy them first I say this because if i started an invasion of a enemy planet I would start in a contenent like africa where its got areas large enough to mass a large foot and vehicle force without having to seperate your force due to geography like lakes and mountain ranges once they had isolated and taken africa they could strike at the rest of the world at their whim because they are within close distance to all major metropolitan areas and powerful enemies

Why woudldn't they glass our planet? Well maybe 12 crusiers or whatever shoots the plasma torpedoes isn't enough to glass a planet.(First strike almost all of the torppedoe shooting ships were destroyed by MC) They probally need more than just 12 to calculate the amount of plasma to destroy the planet. Plus if the forerunners built the pyramids or somthing like that then why did the covenant not know about the location before.

I think you could be on to something there. If you notice, the entire enviroment on Halo is the exact same as Earth. Coincidence? I think not. the air is the exact same mixure, the trees are the same, everything is the exact same. this can't be chance. The forerunners probably modeled Halo after thier homeworld, earth. the pyramids are just early forerunner artifacts.

Not to burst your bubble, but, in the year 2552 or whatever it is, Earth is overpopulated and almost every continent is developed. Africa is no land of giraffes and hippos, its filled with giant metropolises and megalopolises, much like New Momobosa. Secondly, they're attacking EVERYWHERE on Earth. Thats my two and half cents, now talk amongst yourselves.

Side Note: This topic is huge. Like Africa.

I am being serious if you've read the books the atreides/benne gesserit breeding programs could be what developed the covenant and flood and the ixian engineers could be the people who developed the slipspace drive and then they could have realized the abomination in the flood and destroyed themselves to preserve the rest of the universe ((this is not what i actually believe this is here to show that any idea can have backup sources showing that any ones ideas can have validity))

THIS IS A COMBINATION OF TWO POSTS I MADE
i figured id like to get personal views on all these theorys as they are pretty much on the same topics.

***there destruction "Is the will of the gods" and they "are thier instruments" . But from any other species or planet wiped out that had nothing useful, they just glassed the planet within hours. Now they finally found the home planet, if they wanted to wipe us out, they would totally destroy the planet and send the largest fleet ever to do it. But look at that "cheap" advetrisement that was released (the first ever halo 2 ad) it mentioned "they dont wanna destroy earth, just mankind" now there is a reason why they dont wanna destroy earth, perhaps it holds one of the biggest forerunner secrets ever, perhaps a map to show where the forerunners are hiding (they could still be alive?) or all the secrets of the forerunners which they hid on earth, and perhaps all the lifeo n earth (human and all) was created by the forerunners, maybe the flood was a failed project in trying to create a lifeform. i dunno. im babbling again ha ha. but they are looking for something, the advertisement has it written all over it. ***

***mentioned they wanted to destroy Mankind. But there is more behind thier attack on earth, as the Advertisement hints, and due to the fact the planet hasnt been glassed yet and gruond troops where deployed. halo 2 is considered as a "galactic romp from one place to the next" "you take the player from the ruins of halo to ancient forerunner facilitys orbiting gas giants" meaning it isnt all on earth. this has a few possibilites behind it. The covenant are looking for something on earth as well as trying to destroy mankind, and when they find what they are looking for, and are finished with it, they WILL glass the planet. Now if it starts on earth, then theres two reasons why youd leave earth. Its been destroyed and glassed after the covy found what they needed, or it was saved but the covenant still got what they where looking for, and your after them. or it could start somewhere else, go to earth, then you leave earth again to find out bout the forerunners etc or someting, then the covenant find earth and you go back to earth after finding out about a secret hidden on earth that could turn the war, and its your job to hold back the covenant and fins this secret. there are dozens of possibilities which im too lazy to list but you get the idea. ***

**I haven't really read all 27 pages, so don't get mad if what I say has already been said.**

In the first demo that came out, at the end I was confused where he was going. I mean, was he just gonna freefall toward Earth or plan on landing on a covenant cruiser? I know that he could survive a drop like that, as he has before in whatever Halo book it was. But, yes, it is an interesting little thing that the advertisement says, but it doesn't mean that it actually, well, means anything. It makes sense though. The covenant did not destroy Reach. Why? Because there was a huge forerunner facility inside of it, for those who haven't read the books. That is my guess as to why the covenant just don't go the easy way and glass the whole planet; there is probably a Halo artifact in/on Earth unknown to us. What makes me wonder is why don't the covenant want us on their side? I mean, hell, they have those useless Grunts, so why not us? It would be nice to see who these 'Forerunner' guys are. Why did they leave? Are they still alive? I know these guys are ancient, but where did they go? Why not stick around? So many questions. . .

I think Covenant are landing on Earth for two reasons (similar to why they landed on Reach):

1. The Orbital MAC guns were taking out a large number of Covenant ships, the covenant sent ground forces to destroy the generators on Reach. It's likely that Earth is surrounded by alot of orbital MAC guns so the Covenant would have to send ground forces to take out the generators, probably in Africa.

2. Earth has a hidden (underground) Forerunner facility with an artifact that the Covenant want. They are landing in Africa because the Forerunner facility is close by, probably underneath the pyramids? or because it was the easiest insertion point
