I look forward to the new content, based on your past efforts, I know it will be equal to the task!

Hmm, no hang em high simply because they don't enjoy it? I believe Joe Dirt said it best "It's not what you want, its what the consumer wants" and this consumer wants a redisigned hang em high. Especially if we are stuck paying for this anyways, Im willing to pay you programmers for hang em high so don't complain since you don't like it anymore.

I don't know about you guys but as soon as the disc comes out I'm there. I think bungie has done a great job, its just to bad people have no patience anymore. Why not pay and support one of the best multi-player games for a console. Who knows if enough people buy maybe bungie will come up with more downloadable content, Cheating is something you are going to have to live with. It sucks but it doesn't happen everytime. Find a game where someone doesn't cheat. My hat is off to you Bungie. Best game I've ever played. Thanks

This week we finally answer the really, really pressing questions. What are the maps, when are they coming, what do they cost, how you get them and what this means to folks who don't have Xbox Live. Hot, hot, hot.

As much as I'd like to be irritated I can't seem to fully achieve the state. Looking at the bottom line they are really only charging $2 per map over XBL and $2.20 at retail. The maps just look very nice at that price.

However, I am deeply frustrated that the bug fixes and changes to address cheating have taken as long as they have and more than a little irritated that they are being tied to a content release. The content release should have been better planned for before launch so that it could have been streamed out in a more iterative fashion. It's troubling that MS doesn't seem to be able to work out a development plan and product design that shows off the core benefits of their own service that I'm certain could be realized as the iterative content offerings for PGR2, Halo 2, Crimson Skies, and Links have all fallen well short of my expectations on one front or another... timeliness/value/quantity/variety/etc....

I'd also like to see a slightly better discount for download only customers seeing as they won't receive the DVD extras and there isn't the excessive retail/media/shipping overhead involved.

All in all there are a lot of aspects to this that I find more than a little troubling, but at the end of the day ~$2 seems very reasonable for high quality maps and I'd like the added life they will bring to the game as I still greatly enjoy the fundamental Halo 2 gameplay (though I haven't played it much on XBL for the past couple of WoW addicted months).

We do have a Halo 2 Mountain Dew vending machine (that serves cold beer).

So that's why it took so long... Seriously though, do you think the folks at Pepsi would be happy to hear you aren't drinking Mountain Dew out of their machine?

And finally, the new maps you've shown look great. I was just dissapointed about how long it's taken to see any info about them, and that the price of at least some of the DLC wasn't built into the original price of the game. I mean Mech Assault gave us so much free content before they started charging. I was just kind of hoping that was the way it was going to be, because that's the way it really SHOULD be.

Didn't it say that Bungie wanted it free, but LIVE was charging or something like that? If LIVE ops teams are making the timeline and price and whatnot, it's not Bungie's fault necesarily now, is it? And they didn't have to make the maps. And who really cares if you're snapping your disk, throwing it out, or using it as a coaster... not too many people. Threatening to break something you bought (or a gift) is dumb.

And think about it, honestly, are stores gonna have the retail CDs for free? Like they'd let you walk up and grab one and leave. And Bungie might not necessarilly want money for themselves, but to cover expenses.

Oh, and the maps look awesome, and I'm gonna get the retail disk (no LIVE access).

Ah so that is exactly why these 2 maps are coming out not for us just so that you have a chance to sell the other ones, so that people dont think there paying for them all besides 2 map i had about 8 free on RS3 and around 12 on GR but and still not had to pay for them yet for any of the d/l content.

How will the disk with the new maps work? I mean will you just insert the disk and copy the maps to the hard drive on the xbox? The disk will work for non-xbox live subscribers AND live subscribers right?

Achronos said,
Actually, the way it usually works is that the first download from most sources is free. Then, future packs are for small fee (based on their size), and then most are usually available for free after a time. Hmm... that sounds really similar to what we're doing here!

And there are a few screenshots, I imagine more will be coming.

We still gotta wait some more before we get to download the free ones with them. I will be downloading the new ones. But Bungie can kiss my ass if they think I'm going to buy maps that should have been made with it in the time they slacked off in the first place!

theweeklyblend.com - for the fans by the fans

I am honestly wholely impressed with how Bungie is handling all of this. I was a little worried about how we would be able to download 9 whole maps and how matchmaking would work with the option of buying them. But the amount of support and forethought Bungie has put into this should make most of you out there happy. Of course there are always the whiners but Bungie could pay them to download the maps and they would still complain that they had to download them.

Hats off to Bungie for providing them free...eventually, and allowing us early adopters the option of playing them in a matchmaking form early on.

To those that complain, realize that the amount of support and fan feedback that Bungie puts into this system blows away ALL other competition. Admittedly other companies put out some new maps but who puts the type of thought and testing into those maps the way Bungie has. They never cease to impress me.

So naysayers, continue to post your rants as for me, I'm going back to Live.

I've asked once, and seen it asked again: Will we need a disc for every xbox, or will one disc serve several xboxes with the new content?

I would rather have to pay for a really good, thought out map instead of getting some half-assed free ones. I think all of the maps in Halo2 are amazing and people that -blam!- about them are out of their minds. What I'm worred about though is the price of the Downloaded maps as opposed to the Retail version. The first 4 maps will have 2 paid downloads and then the next 5 will cost money. Now if the first 2 maps will cost $5.99 each, will the next 5 cost $5.99? That's more (much more) than the $19.99 retail price tag. This seems like a ploy to get the eager nerds (LIKE ME *puffer*) to pay more to get in on early to the xbox live goodness. I really want
