There are many places known where one can look to for story influences that maybe the writers for Halo have looked to. I want to point out a discovery that could be a possible clue to the storyline of HALO 2. One such place is the ol' book, the bible. I want to thank jevus for pointing this out! Please check out what he has looked up:

QUOTE: "I've seen many references to John 1:17 that can be seen as applicable. Take a look at this one:

In "The Revelation of St. John the Divine": Chapter 1: Verse 17: (revelation 1:17) -> "And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:

-> 18: I am he that liveth, and was dead; and behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

The first Spartan and the last? I think that the number 117 is strange to me. Didn't it seem as if John was the first one recruted(?) by Dr. Halsey and Cpt. Keyes? About verse 18, it certainly seems as if the Master Chief has the keys of hell and death with him, by that i mean an assualt rifle with the covenant's name on it.

Not only the signifigance to the name John and the strange number 117, but the name Truth and Reconciliation rings a bell as well:
Book of Daniel 9
The Prophecy concerning the Seventy Weeks

24 ¶ Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the Most Holy.

25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem, unto the Messiah the Prince, shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.

26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

This is really juicy info to me. The messiah(John the babtist?) will bring a war to an end, and destroy the abominations that have spread (pretty obvious) on the city. The city that they talk about could be the Covenant holy city, and in the end, the flood will be involved massively. What seems interesting to me is that it seems that they talk about 2 cities in the passage. One, Jerusalem, shall be built again, even in troubled times (the battle on Earth City?) and the other shall be destroyed, along with the sanctuary(many possible:Sanctum of the Hierarchs, Halo installation 01,2, or 3) This leads me to believe that since Bungie has already stated that the MC and the humans will take the war to the covenant home world, and knowing that there will be a battle for Earth, it seems to me that this passage speaks volumes of the possible story for Halo 2.

It also says that the messiah will be cut off, and that the people of the messiah will destroy the city. The MC off destroying another Halo while the rest of the Spartans destroy the city?"

So, is it possible that some how, the MC will find a way to destroy the Covenant home world by unleashing the Flood upon them? Seems a bit too monstous for him, but you never know... "for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate"

*Eyes blinking and mounth wide open*

Im wondering if the Bungie staff are using the bible to write the story for halo 2. Those are good comparisons. There is one problem however, what about the Flood when the Covenant are destroyed?

something i must point out, if you go to the hbo storyline pages, you can find a huuge section just on the john 1:17 section, not to steal your glory, but it gives some good insight.

I dont know about that, I am going to do some research on it. I am pretty sure I was told it came from the Book of Apocalypse. Nevermind, it is the Bible, my mistake.

From Cenobite

I said the same thing in that one Thread where u write what u think will happen and if u are close to the storyline when it comes out u win a prize. Well I said maybe Master Cheif will send the Flood after the Covenant Homeworld and will blow it up with the help of the Forerunners. But some will live because they left just in time. Go and find it and read it I think its on page 9.

covenant, is like a promise. So, I guess the covenant could like resemble that they are very set on holding true to their religion (a promise to hold to their beliefs, even if it means wipeing out humans). Well I think that halo (whether they wanted to or not) can be compared to christianity if you like it to be, but if you don't, there is still a good story and lesson behind it (yah, kiddos, there's even some learning to do in halo, that you can apply to real life in a positive way, wow, bungie, you are cool guys). Halo truely is for everyone, religous or not, male or female, younge or old, lazy or active, sane or insane, tall or average hight (ha ha), white, black, gold(covie. color), cool, jerks, ect. What up, bring it dog.
