.A Flamethrower with a nice,believable range. (on Halo:PC)
.Assault games that used flags, not bombs.
.A great many maps that strayed away from campaign mode design.
.Elimination.You always had to be careful.(Elimination games were those in which you only had a certain number of lives)
.Multiplayer maps that didn't center around procuring a specific weapon or vehicle.
.No ridiculous vehicle boosts.
.Entertaining exchanges between Master Chief and Cortana.
.Hiding spots that are well thought out and fun to use.The small hollow on Blood Gulch (the one to the left of Blue base when facing out into the canyon) and the small hollows (the area where the water meets the cliff face) on Battle Creek.
.Deployable covers that were built into the Campaign and Multiplayer maps, and were used as such.
.CTF games on Wizard.Quickest match EVER.Who needs a veto function when you can make your own?
.Elites that were somewhat unintelligible. They went from attempting to club me over the head in Halo:CE to in Halo:3 calling ME the barbarian! And the WTF moment of the day goes to...
.Basic, straightforward grenade types.I don't see what the deal is with the Spike grenade. It can stick to an enemy. So can the plasma grenade.I could perhaps understand the Firebomb, but if i'm not mistaken,it wasn't implemented in multiplayer, was it?
.The following is slightly trivial.Prongs affixed to the front of the Mark V Spartan Helmet, the likes of which overshadow the visor.
.Chiron TL34.Many called it a terrible map,but the idea was very original.Where in Halo's two or three do you see a multiplayer environment comprised of an interlocking network of teleporters? The same goes for Boarding Action.A large portion of the community was adverse to the map,and yet it was one of the most original among those available within the game.
.Halo's greatness on a smaller level.Sure,we ooh'ed and ahh'ed when we saw the Scarab for the first time. When we saw a covenant cityscape sprawling beneath us,we were astounded. However, sometimes you just have to take a step back and see Halo in another light. In Halo:CE,there is no great defense against oncoming armadas. There is no attempt to find an Ark which controls the fate of the galaxy. There is only a soldier,a genetically augmented faceless soldier, but a soldier nonetheless, trying to get home. That is what grabbed my attention more than anything else in the game.
