That one bridge in one of the flood levels that would randomly turn on and off and was probably impossible to cross. I spend damn near 20 minutes trying to cross that... What was even on the other side? Did anyone ever cross it?

Yeah, I crossed it man... ONCE. You have to time it perfectly where you run at the bridge and jump. Hopefully the bridge turns back on when you land. You run a little bit and jump again to the other side. It works but you have to kind of play chance with the flickering bridge. You know it kind of dawned on me that Bungie maybe accidentally made the best game ever. All of these little things have not made it in the later games. They are too polished and all of the random things are filtered out...

1044: The Piller of autumn crew <-- They were so funny.

You know that part before you find "Covenant! On the landing above us!" Where two crew members run out of a door and get pwn't? I remember saving them on legendary, listening to the first one saying "Looks like I picked the wrong day to quite smoking!" real nonchalantly as his buddy gets gunned down, then "Thanks for the assist." When I finished all of the enemies off. The dialog is only rivaled by Johnson in Halo 2.

You do realize that you don't need the bridge to get to the other side? There's a pile of crates on the other of the room you can jump up?

Oh man, so little time to list so many things I loved. I am glad to see that so many people still play this unbelievably awesome game.

1055. The gritty, dark graphics.
1056. A TIMED warthog escape.
1057. Flood, Sentinels, and Covenant fighting each other. The 3 way battles on The Maw and the massive flood covenant fights on the Final Run section of Two Betrayals were madly entertaining.
1058. The great suspense effect of 343 Guilty Spark. Not knowing what the pilot was talking about, the blood on the walls, the mysterious assault rifle fire, the crazed marine. And not knowing what was going on until the cutscene. Which was a great cutscene, as well.
1059. An astoundingly awesome pistol. Not even the ODST pistol can live up to this one. If a Halo 3 battle rifle and a Halo 1 pistol were to have a duel, the BR would get licked.
1060. You actually had to get headshots to three shot kill. No "Aim for body for 3 shots then aim for head" crap. 3 consecutive headshots, or no deal.
1061. The genuine sense of "WTF ARE THESE THINGS?" on 343 Guilty Spark and the Library.
1062. Mad vehicle physics. One of THE most fun things to do in Halo was to drive 2 hogs full speed into each other and have one plow right through and the other go flying 120 feet in the air.
1063. Grenade chain reactions. So much fun, and potentially deadly.
1064. Warthog jumping. Oh boy, did I spend hours on this one. Getting in the hog before it blew, trying to get it on the arch, getting on top of the silent cartographer and shooting a rocket down to have it catapault up to you was absolutely priceless.
1065. Funny game setting explanations. The lives and respawn time, etc.
1066. Elites as enemies. Brutes in Halo 3 just stand still and shoot, and occasionally walk around. Elites will run around while shooting, roll to dodge grenades, and will run instead of walk in combat situations, unlike the fat, stupid brutes. Elites were actually worthy adversaries on Legendary.
1067. Active Camo and Overshields in campaign.
1068. Inaccuracy of plasma weapons on covenant vehicles.
1069. Chief didn't throw like a 5 year old girl. I remember sticking my friend by pure luck 3/4 of a Blood Gulch away.
1070. A particular bloody gulch which was quite possibly, the best halo multiplayer map ever created. Coagulation, while quite similiar, cannot stand up to the original, real, deal. Coagulation is all dark and no caves. Blood Gulch is sunny with countless strategic exploits.
1071. Long, long, long levels. The shortest levels in CE took about an hour. The longest, 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 hours.
1072. Indestrucible human vehicles!
1073. A realistic shotgun. It actually hit stuff across a room. Also, it could actually kill elites on legendary. 1 point blank shotgun + melee to a red or blue elite would kill it.
1074. No annoying 6 year olds.
1075. No people that achievements and rank and exp meant the world to.
1076. Really, really, good maps. Ever wonder why so many Halo 2 and Halo 3 maps (Valhalla, Coagulation, Avalanche, etc) are based off of maps from the original? It's because they were really, truly excellent.
1077. Riding on tank treads. It was so fun.
1078. Grenade throwing in passenger seats!!!!
1079. Non-lunge melees. They actually took skill to hit with. You had to get in your opponents face, not 10 feet away from them.
1080. Single wielding ONLY.
1081. No weapon repeats. (I.E, SMG and assault rifle, sniper rifle and beam rifle, battle rifle and carbine)
1082. No elites in multiplayer! YES!
1083. No guys freaking out about armor. Nobody judges you by your armor either, because it's all the same.
1084. Campaign is genuinely fun.
1085. Two Betrayals, The Maw, and Assault on the Control Room.
1086. Health system. If you lost some health, it's gone forever, and the more you lose, the more careful you have to be until you find a health pack. No shrugging off damage and say it will refill later like in Halo 2 and Halo 3. Over time, small amounts of damage on your health can be fatal.
1087. The many easter eggs were quite enjoyable.
1088. NO SNIPER JACKALS!!!!!
1089. Amazing soundtrack. Especially the theme song. The Halo 3 soundtrack, while quite epic, is not quite as epic as the original.
1090. Either ROFLing as you nudge a hunter with a ghost and he dies, or accidentally nudging a marine with a vehicle and cursing as the other marines deride you.
1091. Marines could be quite funny.
1092. No points rolling up on the screen. That ruins epicness.
1093. EVERY LAST usable weapon in the game has a purpose on legendary. Assault Rifle, Pistol, Needler, Plasma Rifle, Plasma Pistol, Sniper Rifle, Rocket Launcher, and Shotgun.
1094. A balanced starting weapon pair. MA5B assault rifle and M6D pistol for the win. No overpowered spray and pray MA5C assault rifle and hopelessly underpowered M6G magnum.
1095. A ghost going full speed without having to boost.
1096. Marines not driving away when you want to use the turret on the back of the 'hog.
1097. Riding in a passenger seat actually felt like you were riding shotgun with the first person view. Sure, it wasn't as effective and took more skill, but that's what I love about it!
1098. Flood use rocket launchers! Leads to ROFLing as a co-op buddy gets wasted and goes flying by an unknown flood rocket user, and cursing when it happens to you, and chuckling, of course.
1099. The joy of reveling in my memories of Halo: Combat Evolved while I shoot for 1,100!
1100. Kicking 343 Guilty Spark in his robotic ass at the end of The Maw, by yelling "SHUT UP!" as he begs you not to blow the halo to bits. Serves him right for trying to trick us into destroying all life in the galaxy.

Clearly, I love the original Halo. There are just so many opportunities of fun, messing around, or serious play.

You know what I would love? I would love it if Bungie re-released Halo: Combat Evolved for the 360 with the same graphics, same everything, with xbox live capabilities. All the annoying little kids are on Halo 3, I doubt any of them would go to Halo. But then again, voice communication would be awkward, but still. At least mature people would be playing.

I know some of the ones I listed are repeats of what others have said. Oh well. I'll be back with more later. Yeah, I have more.

1101. When you ran over Jackals or Grunts with a Ghost and not only would you not kill them, but you would hover over them, like an annoying speed bump.

  • 04.26.2010 8:11 PM PDT

1102. Multiple needler explosions!
1103. hunters that don't take 7 grenades to kill!
1104. The race gametype.
1105. Being able to save custom made games and simply select it from the game selection menu instead of having to remake it every time from the halo 3 custom games menu.
1106. Imperfections that were purposely put in the environment.
I.E. Flickering light bridge, the broken elavator in 343 Guilty Spark, broken doors blocking your path, etc. In halo 3, the door would just be gone. It's more realistic. Not everything is going to be perfect in a 100,000 year old forerunner construct.
1107. Tiny mini-games hidden in the game. Warthog jumping, getting across the flickering bridge, etc. Halo 3 can't have that because of the boring physics and polished and perfectness.
1108. Huge, seemingly endless environments. Level 2, Halo, is a perfect example. It seems like you can see forever out into the stars (just like real life) and the giant ring is completely visible. I like to trace it with my reticle, until I get back to my own location. It's kinda hard to describe, but I think you get what I mean. Looking up at the ring, turning, looking down at the ring, until eventually you see exactly where you are on it.
1109. You don't need a whole clip of needles to make an explosion. Just 7.
1110. Plasma Pistol can be held down indefinitely!
1111. Human weapons sound awesome. Especially the pistol. Halo 3 counterparts sound like popcorn in comparison.
1112. Cool melees. And they are always the same, no alternate melees for weapons. The pistol melee is an interesting one.
1113. Rubbing it in every body's face when you beat Truth and Reconcilation (the hardest level by far) on legendary with no deaths, from either you or Keyes. (Congratulations to those who have, I'm proud to say I'm one of you)
1114. Flood blowing into a mamillion pieces when you killed one! (Lots of bits would fall off)
1115. Simplicity.

I'll think of more.

Marine corpses that clang like metal when hit

  • 04.28.2010 10:35 AM PDT

Here's one for right now:

1117. An automatic pistol!

  • 04.28.2010 3:42 PM PDT

For all those who are dimwitted enough to believe that you are the epitome of all that will be; your civilization, which took millennia to build, shall be destroyed within seconds with one fell swoop. Your disappearance will not be missed, as life goes on, with or without you.

You are all parasites, you sap the life from underneath your feet, and you expect something in return for your parasitism. All you receive is a death sentence you are not aware of.

May you die quickly.

1118: The fact that the game couldn't tell between fast vehicles and slow vehicles.

A blessing and a curse.

  • 04.28.2010 7:30 PM PDT

1119. lots of Australian marines (Australian accents are awesome)
1120. No brutes. They suck in Halo 2, period. Mad death charge damage-sponge 1 hit-kill lunge -blam!- attack. Not so bad in Halo 3.
1121. No drones.
1122. Covenant dropships that would ignore you unless you shot at them.

I'm running out of ideas... Time to play more CE!

Wanna know why my username is so q.ueer? Cuz I was 17 when I made it. And I was a q.ueer at 17. Everyone is.

Two things.

1.)Wild Recon. Check it out.

2.) ODST 4th Battalion. Join it. Love it. Live it.
