even with Xbox and other consoles, as well as PC, the majority of gamers do not care so much as to the whole "idea" of a close community of gamers. These people just play the game for fun, do not visit the game's forums, could care less bout the significance of the storyline and just play the game for its shiny lights and killing action. Sadly 1 of my friend's obvioulsy bought Halo 2 after taking a liking to Halo and plays multiplayer on Live and played and beat the campaign, but i was almost disgusted when he told me he didn't even bother to watch any of the cutscenes! *.* I mean he just plaed the campaign for the action/practice of it, didn't imerseve himself in the storyline, and didn't even pay attenetion to it watssoever, he didn'teven know who Gravemind was! If u think about it he only appears in cutscenes, he didn't understand the "concept" of the Arbiter, and most annoyingly said they could never make a movie out of Halo or Halo 2 cause there's no story to it, AHHHHHHHHH , i wanted to punch him. It's these "casual" gamers that lack either a.) the will to involve themselves in a game or b) they'd rather just keep on playing the game. The problem with this forum and even surprisingly all these forums is that we're not reaching out to the COMMUNITY, u may think, wow there are A TON of people in the New Mombasa forum supporting Halo 2 but i bet u that that # of forum members there is like 1/100 or even less of the total gaming audience for Halo 2. Sure we've been ranting and raving of changes to the game, whether it be Halo PC, Halo 2, any game applies, the problem is Bungie isin't what it used to be, i'm not accusing it of being a sell-out, at least i don't want to, but Bungie is no longer as "small" as it used to be, sure it was never really a "small" gaming comapny, if there even is such a thing as a small gaming company, but it has gotten tremendously huge and it has to apply its games for the mass-market, unfortunately the opinions of the gamers here are NOT the mass-market.

Now to Halo PC Custom Edition, we try and get the word out about this great new add-on for Halo PC but the community on this "small" forum (The Maw) as well as the Gearbox forums as well only represents a fraction of the people playing Halo PC, it's that reason alone why we can't make CE huge, personally i blame Gearbox or MS, they never really "supported" CE just put it out, the least they could've done is put as the daily message "get Halo Custom Edition today" or something like that, put i bet most Halo PC players don't even know what Halo Custom Edition is...

Well anyways i don't want to turn this thread into an argument, i just wanted to voice some valid points that've been in my head recently, just any opinions are welcome, if u think i'm dead-wrong just tell me, no need to flame k :)

it's more than that though...it's the fact that gaming companies nowadays, even Bungie, are producing their games for the mass-market, not just a dedicated fan base, the comapnies realise that unless they get other people to come to their game "new" they won't make any more money than they did with their former client base, u can see it with Halo 2, new people coming to the forums, pissing people off for knowing nothing about anything, even here in The MAw we've had several people come who are new to the game, but then again we are were all "new" at one point, but with these new people it's cause of the new market aimed at with games today: everyone, gaming comapnies, especailly Bungie, can't make money just off of a dedicated fan base, unfortunately this means they have to make their games aimed at a wider audience, so far Bungie has done good staying true to the fans, but other than that there are people who want to improve the game in the most stupidest ways, for example on the Bungie front page a while ago there was an article titled "Halo 3 wishlist" i read that piece of garbage to see that all the author wanted had become dogma in other common FPS...well u know what i say, Halo ISIN'T a common game, Bungie ISIN'T ur common game company, and i don't think Halo or anything else from Bungie for that matter should become a sell-out like many other game comapnies, basiclly i made this thread to make it aware to Bungie, or to whoever reads this that Halo is important, and Bungie should not make the same mistakes that other companies have done, for those that play Halo i have a message "get ur friends who play the game, tell them to tell their friends, that there are people here on these forums day after day and we support the game, we stay true to the game, and if we get more people like US and YOU on these forums, maybe the TRUE FANS can have their say" and that's really all that i have to say :)

Dear Jman,

It is kinda sad that these days fewer and fewer people understand that gaming is not the just the game. It is the community of people that play the game. This is one of the largest reasons I do not download the newest patches for Halo PC. That exposes you to a whole new set of people, most of whom do not care. you get a close-knit group of friends who are on every night at the same time with the older versions. You get to know each other, and it is like a death in the family when someone does not play anymore, or accidentally downloads the patch.

As for the Xbox version, a group of friends and i meet every friday night and have a LAN fest. We waited in fierce anticipation as Halo 2 came out, and are waiting in fierce anticipation for when the new maps come out on disk. I, for one, am the 3rd worst there, so the game doesn't give me as much enjoyment as it does my friends. I enjoy the game, but the largest reason I meet there (this is the same reason i play D&D. Yes, i'm a nerd, cope with it) is my friends.

However, I will say in support of the companies, that this mass market is the way they stay alive. If it were not for these "casual gamers" (nice description, i like it.), most of the companies would be bankrupt (Probably not bungie though, because they make uber-games). It is kind of sad though, that fans are losing that wonderful sensation of belonging from a gaming group.

Hope I haven't gotten overly emotional,
Yout3
(damnable 2, when i reach to hit the 3, I hit it instead... like I did just now...)

lol, one thing i forgot to put in my main post was that how certain games just aren't really based around a close fan community (i.e forums) and u can see their comparison to Halo and other games by Bungie. If I had to pick 1 truly amazing thing Bungie has done over the years it is the fact that they make their games with the fans in mind, and always create something which gets u involved, it's exactly ur experiances with LAN parties and Halo PC games that I'm talking about. The feeling with Halo 2 and Halo of being part of a large community that bads together to think, help each other, and most of all have fun is exilerating, never before has gaming brought so amny people over the world so close over a game, the whole idea of a LAN is to be bring a face to what has since been an industry about mindless action and unintelligent killing, getting together with friends and family allows a bonding experiance; a way for people to come together, no game has offered this before. In paticualr i was thinking of the massively popular, greatly touted Half-Life and CounterStrike Series, i mean sure MORE people may play these games than Halo or Halo 2 but it's missing that community, my brother bought me Half-life 2 wiht counter-strike source as a present and i soon realised how bad the community was, i mean constant harrasment, racism was abunddunt in the many games, and a feeling of disattachement (sry there's a better word than "disattachement, i just can't think of one right now) towards other gamers and the so-called "community" as a whole, sure there's mic. support but who are u even talking to? people who just play mindlessly wat are they going to say? Nothing compares to playing on LIVE with Halo 2 or having a fun-filled LAN with Halo, i mean after laughing ur ass off because u and ur friend both blasted each other into oblivion with rockets is a priceless moment. nothing comapres. CounterStrike will never be truly better than Halo just for this reason, there IS NO community, how can people kill faceless enemies and have fun at that? It's ridiculous, no one even uses chat for heaven's sake! Just as long as Bungie continues making games, I'll continue playing them. :)

PS The word you were looking for was "detachment". ;)
