Not necessarily true. They invaded Sigma Octanus because they were looking for somthing, the Forerunner crystal and only set in a few ships because they didn't couldn't wait for the whole fleet to arrive. The Spartans taught them differently.

They invaded Reach because they needed to get to the Fusion generators. Even then, once the Fusion Generators were no more and the fleet dealt with... they started Glassing immediately even while they still had Covenant on the planet.

(Sidenote: Actually, this event was totally hilarious from a scientific standpoint. Even though the planet was being glassed Polaski didn't have any trouble and clear skies while bringing down the Dropship. The entire planet would almost instantly be affected by the greenhouse effect a thousand times over and completely covered in violent unpredictable weather systems.)

Covenant tactics aren't quite as predictable as we'd like to think. From the Halo2 Announcement Trailer the Covenant ships seem to be already bombarding the planet with Plasma, seemingly at random while the fleet is still futilely trying to defend the planet.

True the covies do invade to find artifacts but they always invade for reasons besides that just to take out power and defense systems and such. So far the covies have not glassed us those explosians you see in halo 2 announcement trailer are human nukes plasma doesnt make a mushroom cloud humans are using nukes on earth in places that are already in covie control MC has gone on missions where his goal is to blow up a covie base on a human colony. Right now we dont care about saving civilians so we blow up anything that is more then 50% covie.

How would they be able to tell, if it was a human base or covie? I'm sure the covie didn't pack their own blow up base. ( with air, not bang bang )

Do warthogs have some kind of protection when they push them out of a pelican with the helljumpers?

How do you know that they are nuclear explosions? Do you remember the General on the planet over the Radio in the trailer begging the Admiral to get back into the fight because they were being blasted from orbit?

Where do you get the idea that a humongous plasma blast would not cause a mushroom cloud? A mushroom cloud is created by convection forces, super intense heat drawing up particulate matter into the atmosphere. Ship based plasma would likely do the same.

Exaclty! Although Draerden has this slight hate for the books (for somewhat vaild reasons I guess), listen to him on this. He is speaking Tru7h about Earth getting glassed while the rest of the Fleet is engaging our Fleet and ground troops being sent to the planet.

well i got something to add to it you never see blast going down there so where they comeing from then. That and then why don't they just keep blasting everywhere yeah i know there theroy about the covies are searching for something on halo but hey that aint like a for sure thing until we play it. So it could be anything im not saying its nukes but it makes sense that we would nuke are own soil to kill the covies

No, that doesn't make sense to nuke ourselves. We are trying to save Earth, not destroy its surface. The Covenant are doing that already. And who says it is from the ships that are in the foreground? No one. There could be ships in a closer orbit that we don't see that are glassing the planet from up close.

So listen to Draerden's argument, it trumps your's whether you want to realize it or not.

Thanks Hikaru, it's a Love-Hate relationship with the books. One minute I love them for what they are, then I hate them because I see them as they should be. A large part of me wants to rewrite them properly.

I'm far too passionate a man and just keep feeling that everything about Halo should be as good as the game itself is going to be.

There's a Forerunner installation deep under Earth's surface somewhere. We know this because the Multiplayer map called "Waterworks" is based off of this mythical facility.

We discovered this in a recent news piece a few weeks ago where they told us a bit about the three levels that were revealed in the magazines so it is a sure thing.
