I am just wondering if you will be able to lay down in the sniping position in Halo 2?! If you could, that would make you a much smaller target and more deadlier sniper. Sniping is already crazy as it is, but if you incorporate laying down/crawling around in the game and they improve the rifle (which they most likely will). If your running around with duel weapon, your just another easy target. The possibilities in Halo 2 multiplayer are going to be endless!

I should bring back that thread I started about the different controls, because I just thought of another one...

Maybe, they can make it so in Halo 2, when you click the thumbstick in once, it'll make you crouch, but when you hold it in, well, read the title of this thread

Or you could press d-pad down.

snipers who don't move, don't live long. if you wanna lay down, feel free, but I know I prefer moving and straffing making myself a harder target when I snipe.

If the H2 environment is as interactive as i've heard, laying down and sniping is a must. In halo 1 yes, I agree with lifeless, your a gonner. If you get in an un-moving warthog for more than 5 seconds your dead. But, if you can find great positions, with shade, and no lighting, under boxes, laying down sniping will add a HUGE, and might I add fun, aspect to the game.

if u could roll like in back to baghdad that would be the best for sniping

Hopefully the sniper rifle will not leave that trail behind it. Because that gives away your position every time. Laying down in the shadows with a sniper would be awesome.

i dont know about other people but i like the snow multiplayer level its called like sidewinder i think its the best for sniping

It kinda reminds me of ghost recon. Anyway I think you should be able to prone(lay on ground) I know Bungie said master chief wont be too stealthy but stealthy enough to look around corners, well we saw a marine laying down with a sniper rifle in the E3 demo so you might be able too.

I love the idea of lying down to snipe... imagine the top ledge in prisioner just the end of your gun sticking over the edge....

siting still won't get you killed as a sniper... it killing more than once in the smae hiding spot... any good sniper should hide, kill, then move to a new spot straight away - not letting them pinpoint your location is the key...

I forgot about that marine... hopefully it wasn't just in the cutscene...

I think it was just in the cutscene. Anyway, lying down might make some glitches. For example, trying to lie down on a 2ft x 2 ft platform would not work. And trying to lay down on a sloped surface might mess with it too.

Yeah but think about this, we have heard that lighting and interiors are gonna be very real in Halo 2. what if you could climb up into a dark aread and lay down. You'd be practicly invisible sniping. No one could take a guess shot up into the area and kill you because you'd be laying down, protected. We have also heard about the sound of bullets with surround sound in H2. You can actually locate a sniper byhearing what direction the bullet comes from, that is if you have surround sound. Ah man this is gonna be great.

I think the more the game developers put into the game, regarding real life circumstances, the more we the gamers will feel immersed in the environment and the action. For example, ambient noises, real life shadowing and light effects, destructible environment, surround sound and knowing the general direction of where the shot originated, dynamic sound, online team engagements. Give it 5 or 10 years, and developers will put in enough realism into the game to give an experience that is truly breathtaking. And Halo 2, I hope, is the next step towards that gaming heaven.

I think I remember reading somewhere that the Covenant are "going to chase you down into the dark this time around." Someone correct me if I read wrongly. But if this is the case, you kinda don't want to stay in the dark too long.. they'll come for you! Like Freddy. ;D

Keep the contrails...otherwise sniping will be too overpowered.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to get criticized for saying this, but it's what I think, and that is:

This is Halo, not Delta Force or Ghost Recon where sniping is a HUGE part of the game. In Halo, it was so well balanced and so many different things could be done to counter snipers, I don't think they should add all that much just because they should keep the feel for the original.

I would agree with you Greenday if it became a huge imbalance, becase it seems the basis of your concern is sniping turning into a power strat. I think Bungie is very talented, and I still would like to see Prone position implamented, and I beleive Bungie could balance it.

I just don't think this would be a good idea. There has to be advantages and disadvantages to all the weapons. The Rocket Launcher takes forever to load, for example. If you took away the contrails and let the person lie down so that he can't be seen at all, then the sniper rifle has too much of an advantage; does anyone else agree with me on this point?

A lay down function is great but it could have some disadvantages, like not be able to strafe

No shields when you lay down... other-wise you would just slide around!

Maybe only shield on your back...

And it would take as long to get up as the rocket launcher is on loading?

why no shield when you are lying down? I don't think it works like a force field so nothing can touch MC...

I reckon lying prone would be even better if you could do it with any weapon... obviously weapons with zoom would benefit more but there are quite a few : battle rifle, sniper, pistol (if it retains it's scope), rocket launcher *drool*, and any new weapons such as covie sniper

Driven to distraction. ^_^

Personally I don't really like the lying down while sniping idea.
While I agree that it would make the sniper a smaller target (you could already do this by crouching to a lesser extent), it really doesn't have many more advantages. In other games, laying down would steady your aim but MC already has a rock steady aim.
Sniping while standing up meant you could easily move if you came under fire, an advantage that you would lose if lying down.

My big argument would be that it would change the whole pace of the game and make it more of a stealth affair. In my view, the pacing of Halo in single and multiplayer was nearly perfect anyway.
