Subject: Can you lay down in the sniping position in Halo 2?

The main problem with this is, as was said before, the weapons balance issue. The sniper rifle would be much too powerful if you could lie down with it in a spot where you can't be reached. Especially if they take away the sniper contrails! The second problem is a control issue. You can't make it the D-pad down button, because I know people who actually use the D-pad for movement, rather than the left thumbstick (yes, it's crazy, I know). And the "hold the thumbstick button for prone" is no good, in my opinion, since the whole point of having to hold the stick in to continue crouching is so that your movement is constricted, just as it would be if you actually were crouched. Plus, imagine the carpal tunnel syndrome problems snipers would get if they had to hold the stick in for a whole game if they wanted to stay prone!

In my opinion, it's a bad idea.

Well if someone is lying down in a place where you can't hit them but where you can be hit. Then i would just throw grenades or use the basuca. Also i think the sniper weapon is already strong enough so it would be better to give this abilety to all weapons.

Also, if you took away the contrails, then the bullets couldnt be as powerful, because of the nature of the very bullets used by the S2-AM Sniper Rifle (the sniper rifle in Halo for those of you who havent read the books) they have to leave that trail behind, otherwise they wouldnt pierc armour as well as they do, therefore more shots to take out Elites in game, more shots to take out the MC. If you want to make that contrail effectively useless to your enemies, find a place with cover, pop up and adjust your aim, or stay up if target is moveing. Once your aim is adjusted sufficiently, take a shot or two. then pop back down. then if oyu miss, your enemies will look and therell be no one there!
