BXR is the button combination. You melee then hit X fast to cancel the animation followed by R which fires a deadly bullet (assuming that you're hitting the head). It's faster than just meleeing the enemy twice. The maneauver was and in some sense still is a bit frowned upon in MM, in MLG however it used to be one of the corner stones in close combat.
Another popular button combination was/is RRX, the double shot, or RRXYY, the double shot with reload animation cancelling. If you're hitting the buttons in the right pace a RRX will double fire your BR and then automatically reload it. This is good when you're down to 6 bullets in the clip and is trying to finish off an enemy. The addition of YY just speeds up the reload time and is only necessary when you got more enemies around you.
Like I've already mentioned though, these things have always been frowned upon in matchmaking. With the population decreasing it's not a big deal anymore but in the end these combinations are nothing but glitch exploitations and should be avoided in MM, have fun with them in custom games.
