I'm under 17, and smarter than most people thet post threads here. I think it would be unfair to discriminate against those of us "younger people", who are smarter and more articulate than many actually able to purchase M-rated games.

By the way I am incredibly conceited, in case you didn't notice.

You're right, there are many kids under 17 that are very good humans. Not only that but I would be willing to bet that at least 50% of Halo-2 players are under 17. A system like I mentioned really wouldn't be too practical. Unreal Championship 2 has a birthday entry form before you even enter their website. Smart kids know that you can put in a fake date to 'fool' the system to let you in.

I just wish there was a way to filter out some of the crap.

Seriously after seeing very offensive Topic titles and reading through the nonsense in some of these posts I think there should be an age limit set on the forums. The game is rated M, so why not impose the same restrictions on the forum? Yeah, even if you were able to do so people would find a way to get in but just give the average underage kid an obstacle to overcome. Most of them don't have the patience or willpower to go much further. I just think this would eliminate over half of the pointless, rude and abusive posts in the forums.

I don't know, I'm just sick of reading all this crap from kids who have no respect or understanding of how to compose themselves. I at least would be able to have a more positive experience while I visit.

I get discriminated against for being a 12 year old......girl. Yes, I know I'm young, but I don't act it. Kids these days don't get shocked about what they see, (if something bad) but they act immature about it. That's what I don't like. I personally don't think it's nessecary to put a filter on the site. When you join a forum about M rated games, you should know that there is going to be some "stuff" on here that some parents don't want their kids to see. They should be mature enough to accept it.

You can't ever, ever succesfully filter morons off of an internet forum. There are just some people who see the internet as inherently faceless, and don't care about you. Lots of people are idiots, spammers, and flamers because they are anti-social. This may be connected with age/maturity/shoe size, but you can't get rid of the problem.

The only way to tell if someone is an idiot is after they have posted. I don't see age has having liaison with post-quality.

The RedvsBlue peeps made it so that you could not register on their forums without using a qualified email address. Meaning you could not register if your address was a free one (aka yahoo, hotmail, w/e). But i hope bungie doesnt do this. that would piss alot of people off, including me. Basically the only "legit" email adresses are the ones you get via your isp and most do not offer them.

I totally agree. The problem is impossible to filter. I know a few companies that could benifit from weeding out the illiterate, but they can't tell what a person is really like until they hire and actually work with them for a while. If companies/corporations can't "weed" them out, how could the web.

I know my post is a little 'hot-headed' and maybe a little ignorant, but I just had to say something after reading some of the crap last night.

Did you report any of the topic titles or offensive posts? I'm not challenging or downplaying your concerns, as a matter of fact, what bothered you is something that I care immensely about.

We have a team of forum moderators (listed here ) who all take the Terms of Use, Code of Conduct and the Forum Rules VERY seriously. With the millions of post (yes millions) there is no way that we can patrol them all. If members want to help make these forums better, they can help us. Just PM a moderator a link to a thread that has the member who is making the forums unpleasant and we can focus on that specific member.

The Bungie.Net forums are a community. The ninjas are "law enforcement" and PM's are the 911 system. If no one calls in a crime, it goes unreported and unpunished. Members of the community can help to make the society as pleasant as they want it to be.

The reason that age restrictions on this site are unworkable is that this site is meant to be (at worse) the equivalent of "PG-13". Just because a Bungie game is rated M, that doesn't mean that this is a Halo 2-only site or that 18+ is the lower limit of Bungie fans.

I am only 13 and I am on this website. Some people are even older than me and act less mature.

Thanks for you information. I guess I didn't know that option was available to me (Is this readily available to Forum members? [i.e. Sticky on each forum etc...]). I have bookmarked your Group in all of my web browsers and plan to call upon HFCS next time around. You guys can actually do something rather than me 'hoping' for some miracle.

I understand the shear number of posts and limited "staff" to patrol them all. I love this community. Thanks again for your informational post and keep up the good work.

I personally find any rating system (particularly ESRB) completely useless and offensive. They have no right to decide what entertainment I or others should view and not view. That's why if Bungie made an age filter because Halo is an M game, they would be supporting that age bias.

Yo Halo53, I'm real happy for you and I'ma let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best bungie.net profiles of all time. OF ALL TIME!

I know of a lot of people under 17 on these forums that are really cool. I know lot of people under 17 that are jerks. I'm 15 but I've been at this site for 2 and a half years, since I was 13. I may be young, but I'm not an idiot. I don't run around and cry for more downloadable content/for it sooner, flame someone if they disagree with me, or just spam a thread because I want to. I know what I can and can't say or what I can and can't do. I've played some 11 year olds on XBL that are much cooler than some 18 year olds I've played. Of course I've also played 18 year olds cooler than other 11 year olds. Now it does seem like a higher percent of kids are annoying than the amount of adults and this may be true but no matter what their age, I choose whether I like/dislike a person based on their actions. Plus, over 18 or not, if you break the forums rules a mod can ban you.

They do this so that if you're banned, you can't come back. I've been at those forums for almost 2 years also.

What do you mean you can't filter the morons from the whole?

20 questions. Simple. Or perhaps even an IQ test if necessary, although that might be taking it too far.

So the questions could be something like:

1. Is it internet etiquette to post with caps lock on? Yes, No.
2. Is it ok to discriminate against other users? Yes, No.
etc.

The questions would get harder i would presume. So if they don't get a set number of questions correct, they won't be allowed in, and they won't be able to do the test for another week, so they can't just bludge their way in easily.

Littlerat, a lot of these idiots know they are idiots and know the correct answers. They just chose to break the rules. If I had this sudden urge to TALK LIKE THIS FOR A WHILE ENTIRE POST, WHAT'S STOPPING ME?

People know it's not okay to discriminate against others but they do it anyway. Your quiz would accomplish nothing, unfortunately.

So what of the drinking limit in the US or other countries? They differ in each country but they are still there. ESRB and other rating systems aren't really any different, are they? Can you honestly tell me that the drinking limit is "offensive". Drinking is a form of entertainment is that's your argument (alters your mood/mind...and games dont?).

I guess I'm just curious as to how protections for youth are offensive?

i agree with what hald of what lellowranger said. The rating system is useless, but not offensive in any way. Frankly, my dad doesn't care what I play.

They aren't. I think what he means is that the ESRB rating system attempts to group all of the members of an age-group into one bag. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, since there are not (sadly) many teenagers that are mature enough to be playing violent games. However, for the small percentile that are competent enough to tell reality from the imaginary, I can see why they could be upset.

The catch is, there is no way to determine if someone is ready for video games or not, so rules must be enforced. This is where ESRB comes in- to stop the abusive ones for hurting themselves or someone else. There is nothing wrong with ESRB's cause, it's necessary. If anything, stronger rules ned to be made.
