You've got to think crazy, of course, because you only get innovation by refining insanity. - Jason Jones

Alright, some may or may have not read it, but in the end of first strike the marines and dr. halsey find a crystal like below a base on reach, this ball warped warp space, it let you pick a worm hole to travel through in essence. So the travel time and destination accuracy would be unmatched. On the last page of the book, an elite brought in fragments of this ball in a little container, when the prohet opened it he lost his balance and the room started acting funny. Then the prophet said "reward the pilots who flew these missions to recover these pieces, and then kill them all." my question is, WHY! I mean they flew the missions that found pieces that the prophet said were gifts from their gods, and that the pieces would be enough for there purposes. so why would you kill them and not forever reward them, anything other than killing them.

First of All it was a hint to what will happen next so know one knows but bungie, and if im not mistaken it was a brute on the last page not a elite and his name was tatarus.

Good question, perhaps maybe he wanted to send the pilots to the gods with their gifts like the egyptians did to their pharaohs when they died?.

sorry about that, why did you read it if you hadn't read the book yet, it does mention that i will be talking about first strike in teh first sentence.

Devil is Double is Deuce and Joker always trumps Deuce.

the prophet wanted to keep news of the crystal secret and to get that level of secrecy you would have to kill those that found it

join the club gunslinger, i usually have to read a book three times before i get everyhitn in it, if a paragraph goes on for too long, i just skip to the next piece of dialogue.

The prophets are most likely just a bunch of shammers, using the brutes as their allies. They would not want the pilots spreading the news of what they retrieved if they were going to use it for their own purposes would they?

The elites are destroyed
1) For secrecy
2) To maintain the fact they did not capture the humans.

The elites mission was to find the crystal, or the ALL of the crystal fragments. As such, they failed.

no they were not killed because they failed,or they would not have been "well rewarded"
