Okay, I realize that Gearbox is a great company, Halo PC/CE is a great game, but honestly -- its 2 years out of date... its running on waterred down X-Box code which, though looking a LOT better than most games today, still doesn't fit with the true gamer's expectations (I'm, however, not one of those gamers. I love Halo, I just want to play Halo with more than 10 active servers :b)

So, here's my interesting little way to save Halo (this is not a patch idea, this is a separate retail game to be sold)

As Halo 2's production is coming to an end, I have yet to find out what, if anything, is up next on Bungie's plate. So, here's a great idea to get Bungie back into the PC/Mac gaming business which I'm assuming Microsoft will bite into.

1) Translate the Halo 2 Engine over to PC, possibly update it if PixelShader 3, etc. come around and fit expectations, etc... whatever.
2) Rip out ever Halo 2 model/etc. and import Halo 1's old models and maps (plus a few new ones)
3) Build a netcode, etc. (Try and include triggers) Kinda obvious where this is going.
4) Provide On/Off switches to Halo 2's engine's benefits, such as vehicle destruction vs. invulnerability, etc.
5) Create a native support for mods, and upgrade the HEK to match Halo 2's engine (and allow things like walls to be blown up, new weapons/vehicles/etc. natively.
6) Sell it in the stores, roll in money, have Microsoft vacuum it from your hands, drink profusely in the gutter at the corner of fourth-and-main from a brown paper bag.

So not only will you almost definately have a smash-hit, but you'll also have an engine waiting and bug-cleared if Microsoft ever says "Translate Halo 2 to PC" or something. All you'd have to do then is rip out all the Halo 1 stuff, and import Halo 2, upgrade the engine if any idea pops in your guy's heads, then release... the netcode would be there, etc.

I'd know I'd be willing to buy it -- given I actually get around to swapping out my GeForce 2 MX-400.

Edit: Also useful to add in anything you wished you could have added in Halo >_> if that's any consolation for adding to my free-time-fun through months and months of your painful coding.

Actually, Bungie is working at 150% on Halo 2. Trust me, they are workin hard. A Gearbox representitive said this is "part' of the problem and why there are no patches (even though gearbox created Halo PC/CE, any add ons/patches must be tested and ran by microsoft and Bungie first. Go figure.)

Microsoft developed this program that is supposed to convert any Xbox source file to DirectX9.0 so waiting for Halo 2 to be ported to the PC may become a thing of the past.

Yeah -- this idea was designed to be after -- what is it, November 9th? Basically it would be a project Bungie would work on after, then do Halo 2-PC IF AND ONLY IF Microsoft decides to un-exclusive it from the XBox. Basically the idea I'm going for is to turn the Halo PC-Gold engine into an Unreal-like engine (only one not licensed to other companies), so that they can continually update their engine to match the graphical standards of the time instead of rebuilding from scratch every time they want to make a new game. It would be easier to "raise the bar" for graphics if they only have to rewrite 8 pages of code, instead of the whole thing. Plus -- it would bring Halo to the PC using updated code as oposed to 2001-2002 code...

Lets make it clear (sorry for breaking internet etiquet): 1 -- THIS IS NOT A PATCH, THIS IS A SEPARATE RETAIL GAME IDEA FOR BUNGIE 2 -- I, (owner of phopojijo@hotmail.com, I obviously am not going to give out my name in the internet), FULLY TRANSFER THE IDEA TO BUNGIE/MICROSOFT GAMING STUDIOS AND RETAIN NO OWNERSHIP OF THE IDEA THEREFORE BUNGIE AND MICROSOFT GAMING STUDIOS CAN USE THE IDEA AS THEY SEE FIT, IF THEY SHOULD IT AT ALL. -- I know how paranoid some companies get of lawsuits, if for some reason they do use this idea and wish a contract be signed and mailed by me disclaiming all legal bullcrap to eleviate their fears, then they should e-mail me. Yea yea, I realize its going to be filed under "F", but on the .00001% chance that it is liked by marketters for Microsoft, I don't want to be the reason for it not going to production.

So -- that said.

Halo 1 (single player/co-op included!!!) on an updated Halo 2 engine for the PC with native mod support and an undated HEK... doesn't that make every gamer drool all over their keyboard?

Is Halo 2 using Microsoft's new programming standard, XNA?

Dunno... but I don't think it should matter... all that would be translated from Halo 1 would be maps and tags.

I think that is a great idea. Oh, by the way, are you going to pay for that keyboard you just made me ruin?
