I remember somebody asking about purple boxes in some level, so I'm assuming this is the right place to post something like this. Why are there triangles on all of the Grunt's backs? And does their red armor mean they're better than ones with yellow armor?

I'm assuming Triangle is just the shape of their armor (probably to prevent headshots from behind, even though they die to pretty much anything, anyway), and color stands for rank. Dunno the official code for Grunts, except that Black=Special ops.

The most awesome thing ever!

the official(i think)code for grunts is this:

Orange: Soldier
Red: Veteran
Black: Spec. Ops.

sigh... Grunts originally came from a Methane-atmosphere planet. so, they evolved to breathe methane. we breathe oxygen. Halo and most human planets also are oxygen-rich.

The thng sticking out of their back is their methane tank, and the thing on their faces is their breathing mask.

Without its mask and tank, the Grunt would suffocate.

And liet pat is right, the colours are that way.

That maskless grunt was scary.
I think a shot on the tank counts as a headshot.

A headshot only counts as a headshot if it's in the head. I've had to shoot a running grunt 4 times in the back before he went down, so a tank shot doesn't go to the head.

I would like to thank Shade The 2nd for clarifying the headshot. The tank on their back has worked out to be dually useful. Its protection and a health source.(if you will)

Not to flame or anything but, jesus you aren't that smart are you? The thing on their backs are methane tanks they can take them off whenever they want but they would die if they did.

Orange Armor: Rookie
Red Armor: Veteran
Black Armor: Spec Ops
White Armor: Worker

Some grunts have bigger helmets than others.
Some grunts methane tanks are different also.

Are you happy now?
P.S. sorry if I sounded mean.

However, Halo 2 scenes with maskless grunts are possible because of Grunt barracks, and the ability to knock off pieces of armor- from Ghosts, Hogs, Banshees, and maybe enemies.

Is it just me or were the Grunts using some sort of Fuel Rod Gun during "The Maw"?

You are stupid aren't you. Spec Op grunts (the black ones) use fuel rod guns and the Fuel rod guns have fail safes on them so they blow up when the grunts die. They appear in the level Keyes and are also in The Maw.
Do I have to do everything here?

Not all the Special Ops grunts use the Fuel Rod gun- only those that you don't notice/see until they shoot you.

That's true Lunous. However, the ones with the fuel rod cannons are the only type of grunt you even need to worry about, so you might not even notice if you kill a black armormed one.
