I just had an idea.

Well everyone knows about the machete knife thing on the Heroic and Legendary Logos right?
Well I thought about these being in the game...and how it would probably suck. But then I thought of a really good use for them. THE FLOOD.

We all know how -blam!- the flood are, and how you have to waste so much ammo (and sometimes grenades) and they're pretty much immune to melee attacks so.......the machete thing would be kick ass against the flood me thinks.

Vote Disciss Make Fun Whatever.

You already got the Plasma sword, what else do you need. And it is like 40x better than a knife.

Bungie said in a interview melee weaponS or plural so that means there are more hand to hand weapons then the plasma sword

No knife in Halo 2. There was a reason Bungie kept it out of the first game. It is because a knife would suck and is not very Halo.

I'll be on my own side.

ive said it before and ill say it again; why use metal when you can use plasma?

Why do people use the pistol when they could use the plasma pistol that line of reasoning is flawed. Also its not just a knife it's a machete/sword and with MCs strength imagine the decapatation factor! :-D

They actually had a huge knife in the early, early alpha version of Halo, you can see it in the pictures.

They also had SMGs and Covenant Carbine a Covie slug thrower and a alien sniper rifle and all those are coming back so what's your point Hikaru?

Im just saying it would kinda make sense for Master Chief to carry one...because I doubt that you're going to hhave an energy sword all through campaign. And how hard would it be for MC to carry...it'd probably be magnetic so it just sticks onto his leg or back. I think it would be a good backup weapon to have.

...not in multiplayer though.

I agree, If worst comes to worst, you will always have a combat knife! i think it's a good idea.

My point is it is a bad idea. That's what it is. They also removed those weapons for the sake of balance, and found a new way to balance them for Halo 2. I could see them (everything bu the knife) being in Halo 1, and Halo 2. But a knife just doesn't look or sound like it'll work in Halo 2.

  • 07.04.2004 12:14 PM PDT

I'll be on my own side.

even if worst came to worst, you wouldnt need any kind of knife.you have melee combos. its not absolutely essential to carry a combat knife or plasma sword. and you should be able to shoot the Covies before the get in range of having to use a combat knife. and dont bring up stealth, because this is Halo 2,not Splinter Cell.

Uh.... what are you talking about? Do you not remember the beginning of First Strike where it talks about Fred spinning his combat knife on the tip of his finger before shiething the blade? Now how is having a combat knife not very Halo? I guarentee you it would suit it just fine. Especially as Bungie has been working on creating human equivalants to Covenant vehicles and weaponry (ATV is to Ghost) and vice verca. The Covenant have their energy blade, why not have a human combat knife as an equivalant?

Go look at the halo history main news item from a few months back, it shows where the machete came from, its useless anyway, id personally prefer a carbon fibre, well balanced, non reflective 6 inch knife.

WOW Fred was twirling a combat knife. that just guarantees that theres going to be a ccombat knife in Halo 2 doesnt it?? nobody is going to want to use a combat knife man. theyre gonna be using the new guns and the plasdma sword and new vehicles.no ones gonna want to use a combat knife. how would you kill and armored Elite or Spartan with a knife anyway??

But a knife would do a lot more damage than hitting someone with a gun.

Elmicker, why would you want that? 6 inches? C'mon whatre you gonna do? Butter the covenant's toast with it?

And you guys kinda missed my point. I was talking about it being a reserve weapon...not meant to be the equivalent of anything (especialy an energy sword). It's just there to chop -blam!- up (like the FLOOOOD) if you need to.

Fighting an elite with this = stupid.
Fighting flood with this = good exciting fights (with extra ammo when it's over)

  • 07.04.2004 12:58 PM PDT

I'll be on my own side.

no one wants a reserve weapon. you have dual wielding and new 2 handed weapons. you dont want to let anyone get close enough to you where a knife would actually be useful.

I like realy close quaters it gives me the advantage because I feel like I'm better at smoking people in the face.

I think the energy sword would swing slower but do a lot more damage and the knife would beable to be swung faster but do a little less damage.

I don't see how you guys would think nobody would use it theres tons of people right here saying they would want to use something like that.

Some people do, some don't. Stop being so closeminded.

It could have pratical applications wether you like it nor not. And NONE of us have any idea wht lies ahead for the campaign mode...so...whatever.

I really don't care either way, if Bungie puts it in, it should go good with the game, if they don't, they didn't for a reason. All you guys against it, the Brutes gun has a blade on the bottom, why aren't you saying that doesn't go with halo? I think a machete would just be a brute's gun's melee, but more powerful. What do you have to say to that?

So, basically what you have done, is completely twisted and misenterprated what I have said, and some how recieved the message, that I am saying that because Fred was weilding his combat knife at the beginning of First Strike, I am now guarenteeing that a combat knife will be used in Halo 2. I suggest you take reading lessons, and on top of that, before you go trying to correct someone, you might want to make sure you dont look like an idiot by getting the wrong message. Hikaru stated that a combat knife doesn't really suit the theme of the Halo universe, "It is because a knife would suck and is not very Halo". However, how can he be right when it states in First Strike that Fred was playing around with his combat knife. Nedus, I highly suggest you read things more than once so you understand what the replyer is actually saying.
