Well then despite if you're timing with a clock, or your timing with your head (assuming you have a really good mindset for that sort of thing) you're still timing. If you're opponents are using timers but not controlling the map, they are either lacking the skill it takes to control the map, or they not using the timer for multiple weapons/powerups. Either way it's a lack of skill. However if they're doing all of those things and controlling the board and the power weapons, and you're still beating them, then i would really recommend that you buy a plane ticket or drive on down to the next major halo tournament. Because if you're truley as skilled as you're making yourself out to be (and not completely delusional) Then you'd should have no problem winning a large tournament prize. And to me... if i was that convinced that i was that great at this game i'd definately be very active in the tournament scene.

In case you didn't know this little fact before, there are many tournament players of various video games that travel the world playing games, for big tournament cash. Many of them make a living simpley playing video games compeditively, there is one internationally reknowned asian player who even has his fingers insured for $60,000 dollars.

But in all reality i doubt that you're even close to as good as you think. It sounds to me, like every time i make i point, you're just saying "Sooooooo, i'm still teh best player in my group of small time friends"

Yea, whatever
What i'm saying is that you don't need to time to be really good at Halo.
But what you're trying to say, timing does help, and i know it does.

And yes I know I'm not the best, and I never said I was.

No i'm not saying timing just helps i'm saying it's a massive part of the compeditive aspect of the game. Which is, as i'm sure you know this is what i'm getting at, a large part of what makes you really great at the game. If you play against the best, if you can hang with the best, then you're one of the best. Anything less is far... very far from great. So far you're just deluding yourself into thinking you're much better than you are. You're average and show potential at best.

It's about how you view it man, If you played one of the Ogres during the match he'd beat you down so hard in such a humiliating way you'd either quit playing halo, start making excuses, end up breaking something, or do what most normal people who have a clue do... accept that you're not even as close to as good as you thought you were, and try to get better. Which is really what i'm trying to get you to understand. It's more or less what i've been trying to get you to understand for the majority of my last few posts. What defines you as a halo player isn't beating down people who suck at the game, it's playing with the best of them.

In soul calibur we call people like you scrubs. People who don't have a clue the extent of knowledge their compedition has about the game, it's an edge that knowing it and practicing it regularly with other like minded people, will make you better at the game exponetially. It's an entirely different level of playing the game. So much that it's almost impossible to get someone to understand who hasn't witnessed it first hand. You say you're great or good, and you wonder how someone can never see you play and still come to the conlusion that you're not good at a game. When you've lived in the tournament scene for 6 years like i have, you realize you can know that much based simply on how some one talks about a game.

Ok so you're saying you are not good unless you play a large amont of people. Some people don't have the time/money/etc.. to join a torunament. So if you do win a torunament you can't say you're the best, you can only say that you're better then people you played. I bet there are people that did't join the torunament that can beat the person who won.Great people can be the ones under the scene.

People don't have to play people that are just as good or better then them to get better.

We called people like you -blam!-s that waste thier life trying to be the best in a video game.

You're right they just pick up the game and automatically win 10,000 dollars[/ end sarcasm ]
Stop man, and think about what you're saying. You can only progress so far on your own.

I never said i try to be the best, infact the only people i try to beat are the people are my group of buddies in cleveland, of course that's soul calibur 2, and these are all people who have won regional tournamnets, and some who have placed at a respectable level in national tournamnets. I travel for tournaments, but i definately don't take the time to practice every day of the week.... Either way this isn't about me, it's about you buddy.

i got better by playing people who were better than me. it's called ADAPTING.

also, i play with large amounts of people. 1. lots of people in my neighborhood have xboxs, thus, many LAN parties. 2. i go to a local place that hosts a bunch of LAN parties, lockins, tourneys, etc. course, it's only just now opening a second location, so yall don't have the advantages i do.

No, they can play 1 vs 4 or so on to get better.

DRWIIL playing once or twice a week with your friends just isn't going to cut it, and as of now I know that, and I thought I was fairly good. Not the best but definitely in the top 50. I can mentally time, I can kill from almost 250 meters with two pistol shots, I can launce grenades with relative precision for 200 meters (More if I'm high up) I have beaten Legendary in more ways than many people dream of, most recently finished the game with ONLY MELEE ATTACKS. I am what most of the people on B.Net would call elite. So I figure I got it together. Well I got a random challenge from someone on MLG.com. I figure, Let me show this little tourney player what's up.

He completely hosed me. He beat me to 28. (Meaning 50 - 28) There is no competition at home like there is at the Tourney. Listen to Creep, he shows wisdom which you are lacking. Do not insult people because they show an interest in something you don't.

I even thought of playing at home and on LAN parties to get farther. Those guys I think take classes...

Well since you said yourself that you dont need to play against good players to get better, i'm assuming that you're playing 1 vs 4 against less skilled players... So let's see, the team with more skill and more targets to shoot, is gonna get better than the team with less skill and 1 target to shoot. Yeah that makes much more sense. I'm sorry man but you just aren't making any sense. You're going to continue winning till the people you're playing against start using thier brains and coordinating their efforts, eventually they'll start beating you down, and you'll quit playing stacked odds. Because someone got better, and it sure wasn't you.

Look man you just don't get it. Take a trip to a big tournament, just one. Then look me up to finish this coversation, you're much too thick headed to believe that you might have something to learn from someone. Because untill you get humbled (which you will) you're not going to understand.

I must admit, I've gained some insight in the midst of all these arguments. Im not against timing. Like someone posted earlier, its just a difference between those that play for fun, and those that play competitively. All I hope is that those that play competitively clearly state that (or something similar) in their rooms when hosting. Using xbc for an example... there were countless times I joined a game titled "NEWBS ONLY" or something similar (Yes, my friends and I are pretty much newbs to MP), only to be destroyed like 50 to 10 or something. Now Im far from a great player, but there's no way other newbs could beat me that badly. Yes there's a lot you can learn from better players, so Im not -blam!-in about that. Just dont mis-represent your room online and everything should be fine. That way competitive players (and those wanting to learn from competitive players) can get together... as can those who just play for the FUN of the game.

(I hope Im not too off-topic)

I have a great idea... make allthe weapond like the ar (because pistols are sooo cheap) make them have random spawns and random spawn times!! Oh yeah, and walls to hide behind r cheap to... then again so is ducking...hmmmmm lets make one big room with nothing to hide behind, take out the ducking, and all ARs with randomly spawning loactions and times!!!

See how stupid this is????

Of course the other extreme exists too, and I won't deny that too many exploits can take the fun away too.... But the only reason that halo is still being played today is the depth of the basic combat and the fact that even after almost 3 years, and thousands of hours there r still ways to get better and still tricks to learn, how long was halo around before timers started getting used?? Now that's depth!... no matter how God-like you can get at a particular skill (ogres and sniping), there is always a way to beat them(walshy). We complain about powerup timing and such because the only major online experience available now is xbc and you can't play on xbc for long w/o being exterminated badly by a l33t (i feel sorry for ANYONE who challenges sicfuc, lol), and of the total halo-playing population, l33ts make up a very small percentage... that's why they're l33ts, lol. But, they make up a larger percentage of current ONLINE halo players. Halo 2 will be on live so a lot more people will be playing and there will be plenty of games for the average halo player like me!! However if the game is any less deep, it will not have the longevity.
