I dont know why this came up. i've had halo pc for a year now and no problems. now starting a few days ago when ever i try to start loading a map i get that error, gathering data exception. ive changed nothing on my computer, hardware wise. i did just install joint operations: esclation. but that shouldnt mess up halo loading maps.
ive reinstalled halo and fixed the files. nothing. i unistalled halo and halo ce, restarted the computer then installed it again. nothing. i dont know what to do.
does anyone else know what to do?

my system specs are:
AMD Athlon 2.2 GhZ
768 Mb RAM
1151 Mb of Virtual memory
ATI Raedon 9600 XT
Window XP service pack 2 :(
120 GB hard drive

all of my other games work fine.
any help would be greatly appreciated becuase my dad really wants to play

It sounds like halo is trying to use something, but can't find it like a system file. You may have changed something that halo needs to run. I don't know how to help you execept by saying "look on the microsoft support site or googling your problem".

I would suggest setting a restore point (current), and then reverting back to an old restore point before any changes and seeing if that shows your problem...

You can always restore back to your current config if nothing changes... If that's the case and nothing gets any better, I wouldn't know what to suggest.

ummm when u reinstalled Halo did u get all the patches for it? I suggest going up to V1.6 to make sure, also if the game crashes before u even see the main screen than u need to donwload a Service Pack 2 fix, all patches are on the Halo PC website (search Halo PC in Google, it should be 1 of the first sites shown)

i have no mods or cracks installed. restore point is out of the option. i have all the patches. i havent changed anything nor shut down any services that run when windows starts. i was playing it, stoped for the night, shut down the comp, woke up, and my dad was asking why it no longer works.
would a scratched disk cause this problem? becuase my dad just kinda tosses my games around since he doesnt care, and its really scratched up. he even threw my halo 2 disk off of my xbox into my closet becuase he wanted to put his chips there, on my xbox.
i think i made a backup disk for halo, i should find that.

Well, does this error happen consistently, like every time u go to play halo? Cuz ive gotten this error and for me its always completely random, just once in a good while it minimizes halo and says that error, but i just start halo again and it works.
Dont know if this helps at all.

halo doesn't use disk at game. u can remove it if u want during the middle of game.

well, i had this too, and i removed one 256 mb of RAM and my pc was fine. i think halo isn't good with 768 mb of RAM or maybe the RAM was made by a bad company. reinstall , not reinstall. i mean click the uninstall switch on halo. DON'T remove saved games, and when its uninstalled, install it again.
