I was wondering if some of the other guns would come back or if you could be able to detonate your gredane you threw(plasma most likely) and just wait till you wanted to blow it up(saw it in EGM). State your opinions about if they will come back or not.

Could you explain what you mean by "self detonating grenades" You mean like proxi mines? remote mines?

I read it in EGM, he means when you throw it hold on to the trigger when you let go it explodes.

ah ok.... like remote mines then.

That's a very cool idea and i love the suggestion of the way you control it, very good!

i think it would be less campitive if it only worked if it was on a person or else you could just wait in a little corner and just blow it then gun him down

"Self detonating" implies that the grenade detonates itself. In a way frags and sticky do that in the sense that after the grenade is activated (pin pulled etc.) the grenade is detonated after a certain amount of time (depending on the length of the fuse).

Actually self detonating grenades actually kind of implies that the grenade will detonate itself when it accuires a target, like a proximity mine (when someone come nears, it goes boom!)

Anyway....I think you mean REMOTE grenades, not self detonating, where a grenade can sit dormant for a time after being thrown until the "thrower" detonates a switch which then in turn explodes the grenade wherever it is.

I think remote grenades would be an AWESOME idea, under the circumstance that the grenade must be attached to a person in able to remotely blow it up. Other wise, people would spam nades at the flag, base, or spawn waiting for some poor player to jump on top of it and be instanly fried. I think that would get old.

I did think about how it would be cool if you could "cook" grenades like in many other fps, and the longer you pull the trigger to throw the grenade, it activates the fuse, but the grenade isnt thrown until the player releases the trigger, in turn giving a precise way to have the grenade blow up when needed.

However, I now think that this would unbalance the game, because season veterans will eventually nail this trick, and it would bring a unfair advantage to the people who knew what they were doing. Im afraid this would result in frustrated noob syndrome, and people may give up playing the game because they get blown up immediatly after spawning, feeling like they have no chance.

Anyways, I suppose I've thought about this way too much. Good day.

This is what HALO was missing the most I believe. It was just so inpractical not having it in HALO. Any one whos played HALO would agree that throwing a grenade at an elite only to watch him easily get out the way in time was extremely frustrating and made accuracy the grenade quite low (unless of course you corner the enemy at the end of a small hallway).

I have read FS and FofR and am currently in the middle of finishing The Flood, and at one point John nails two elites on halo by throwing a grenade between them while they were standing in a very open area.
Now if you tried this in HALO (game) both elites would simply dive out of the way and paste your ass with plasma if you were silly enough to have moved from cover. Which leads me to believe that before John threw the frag grenade, he started the fuse early and timed it right so it would expode just as it reached where the elites were standing.

Having seen this type of grenade system in so many other fps online multplayers, I know (as im sure many of you would) first hand that yes, some people can get very good with this grenade system but it is only advantagous in certain situations.
As for being grenaded on spawn, i find it highly unlikely that it would be any worse than the kind of spawn camping that is currently in use, besides I dont think I've ever heard of anyone in games like Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory complaining about being constantly spawn killed by some guy with a bag of grenades :D

But that's just my opinion.

Let's stop typing so much and simplify this for people who don't want to read so much (me).
-The old way of throwing grenades was just fine, and Plasma Grenades stick to stuff (no dodging) while frags go off more quickly. That's all the variety we really NEED here.
-The new way requires that you HOLD the trigger to remotely detonate. You can't throw out a dozen grenades and time one explosion, you can't toss one and remember to use it halfway through the game, not to mention you can't dual wield while using grenades, so that's out of the question too. This system will allow experienced players to better use grenades, while changing absolutely nothing for the normal person. Excellent.

have you noticed how in Halo, grenades dont blow up untill they have or have had a firm place on the ground where they arent moving... eg, throw them onto a hill, they wont blow up until they stop rolling.... I like that system, it has a way that veterans can exploit, (delaying it because of roll) but no way to speed it up... I like that.

Also, i'm from Australia, and i dont see what that has to do with it.. lol

I just had a hilarious idea...stick a guy with a remote grenade and he doesnt realize it, wait until he gets near his team-mates and then...KABOOM!

Are you talking as "a matter of fact" or is that the way you think it will work. Coz I didnt think they'd (bungie) actually said anything about remote detonating grenades otherwise why are we talking about it as a possibility? or have I missed something?

hi there Elarith! what part of Aus are you in?

not a bad idea but could make grenade throwing too easy. Flamethrower and Fuel Rod need to be fixed and put in Halo 2 by the way.

Toasted Grunts or Exploded Grunts??? Hmmm... tough choice but I atleast want to make the choice.

One thing i think that would be cool is when you stick a plasma on a grunt and explodes it desinigrates anything in the blast radius

Kinda like vaporize? or like into a red powdery dust?
I think grenades should at least take chunks of flesh of you when you die by a grenade and maybe even a couple of limbs flying off here and there just to add to the realism.
Im no crazy insane blood and guts loving lunatic but i think more games need to incorporate realistic damage effects from explosions to their character models. Ragdoll was the first step towards some kind of realism and randomness.

Hopefully more games will start to use these realism touches. I know It'd be kick ass if you threw a grenade next to a grunt then duck behind a wall just in time to hear the explosion and then grunt appendages start raining down on you. *evil chuckle*

I agree if your talking about grunts and stuff but MC's bones are indestructible I think so he can lose any limbs, only flesh around the bones. Plus his armour isn coated with diamond making it hard to tear that apart too :S

yeah, you guys suck at halo1. sorry. but you really do.

the cooking of nades sounds kinda cool, i guess, but i always liked throwing them differently. like if you throw a grenade in a corner, between the wall and the ground, the nade will instantly stop moving and explode. that is instant exploding grenades.

and to make them last longer, to make them explode a little bit later, you throw it at the ground, maybe a bit more downward. so you should try jumping first, or throw the grenade higher up against a wall.

I say let there be remote nades but have it be a certain time limit. like after a minute they blow up.

I like the idea where you can hold the grenade for a longer time, they had this in XIII for whoever played it, I would absolutley love to see this in Halo 2.
