Also, a few of us were talking during matchmaking and Halo: Reach is definitely going to be, not a first person shooter, not a third person shooter, but a second person shooter. Bungie is going to revolutionize the way you watch other people play games.

Don't worry, I gotcha

lol I just found someone on the forums with an absent member I didn't realize we also had somewhat degrading names to, well atleast it will motivate people to keep online even though if they are more of these kinds of prefixes I feel it may become something of an untouchable rank in the forums hierarchy of society. Though must of us are not that immature to do so some will.
It's not degrading; it is simply used to designate a user who has not logged in in a long time -- the prefix is there to let other people know that if they reply to one of that user's posts, he or she is unlikely to respond back.

Seems logical to me. If anyone with that particular title finds it "degrading", then I feel that they are in denial about their own characteristics here.

Either way, if they don't like it, they know how to change it.

Also, I doubt an inactive member is going to care about a member title prefix in the first place. If they did, then they probably wouldn't have the inactive "Absent" prefix any way.

Exactly, and I find it odd that my old account isn't an absent member, I haven't logged on in ages. I think the threshold for "absent member" is like 6 months of inactivity, correct me if I'm wrong.

Well accounts get deleted after a year of inactivity, so it must be around that time frame.

I believe the 'titles' are just for our own enjoyment.

Posted by: dazarobbo
I'm still don't get it.

What I mean is, to whom are the titles supposed to mean anything to? Other members? The moderators? The Web-team?

If we (by 'we' I mean, the member base) don't fully understand what each of the prefixes mean in the context of the forums, then they don't really mean anything at all.

I'm not complaining about them; just confused as to their purpose.

: ?
Well.. OK, but I can't possibly see what kind of enjoyment anyone would get out of them.

Really? Most people this day and age find it quite enjoyable to give anything and everything insignificant labels. Dare I say, it is becoming human nature to do so... Whatever makes others happy, right?

As long as my title has the word 'member' in it, I'm happy.

Oh really? What if it was : ) Would you be happy with that? AS it has been said before, the member titles are only superficial in meaning and don't reflect the overall value of the person as a whole in the community.

Well, we do have confirmation of the general guidelines for each prefix. The exact criteria will never be available to the public (to prevent users from attempting to "game" the system or take specific negative actions to achieve a member title that they like), but I believe that we already have confirmation from Achronos of what each prefix is given for, as well as some sense of their hierarchy. For example, an "Exalted" prefix is the highest possible prefix a member can earn, and it is related to ban history. "Noble" and "Honorable" prefixes are the second- and third- highest (respectively) ban history-related titles, although it's unclear as to where these two titles fall in terms of the overall priority list.

I try to as well, but I have seen a lot of other members admit that they only pay attention to posters with a blue / salmon / gold member bar in the past. Personally, I think that mentality limits the amount one can learn about the community as a whole, but I guess we are just supposed to have fun with it and not take it too seriously from either side.

Some appreciate it, some don't. It's kind of hard to really understand what you're talking about when you fail to define "necessary". By this logic (or lack thereof), none of the extra stuff we have on B.net is "necessary". We don't need to see our stats, we don't need file tagging, we don't need any of this fluff.

These updated titles (u c wut i did thar?) aren't hurting anyone. If you don't like em, don't look at em.

The people who don't like them are entitled to that opinion. I don't like the titles (that's actually an understatement) and everyone who I initially mentioned that to just assumed that I didn't like them because I wasn't satisfied with my own title. Nice bunch we have around here, eh?

No, I have spoken out about this because if I don't like them, I still have to look at them. Because they are still there. I probably wouldn't be here right now if it wasn't for my script, because I can't stand looking at threads without the script enabled anymore. The titles are tacky, cheesy, and far too showy. And I am entitled to that opinion so I also don't appreciate attempts to make me feel like dirt for having that opinion.

In an automated sort of way. Which is where the problem lies.

Your Coup can be tacky, cheesy and far too showy, but it's done so in a personalized way, which makes up for it.

Also, to use Recon's analogy...does that mean someone superglued my hat to my head?

Dear god...am I Matilda's father?

Don't mistake "my Coup" with the master script, there is an important distinction there.
But that being said, I'd actually say that the main difference is that you can turn the master script off.

Well yes, I agree, but you know what I meant, so that's excusable.

Either way, I'll stop pestering you about this, I know how much you hate discussing the topic, even if I am agreeing with you :P
