Alright, I was kinda rushed when I wrote the original post for this thread, so forgive me for neglecting some of the better arguments, and now let me take the time to rant and rave about how I was/am disappointed and amused with idiotic marine AI... And I bring this up now because I was sorely reminded when I was inspired to pop in the original halo disc and play a few levels today after reading up on halo 2 information...
Whats-erz-name brought up a good point, marines are HORRIBLE ghost pilots, they tend to be more lethal to you while in a ghost, then to the enemy, and tend to die... In "Assualt on the Control Room" you always have to make sure you toss a plasma grenade on the 2 ghosts of the canyon floor, others mr. smart-ass marine hops in it and either A) Runs your ass over -or- B) charges blindly forward then parks and stays in position while slowly firing at the enemy tank until hes destroyed...
Then on the 2nd level "Halo" I had the sniper of the group of marines hidden in the rocks shoot and kill 2 of his allys......
Also as captain obvious mentioned that seem to not check where they are jumping when trying to dodge which means they usually do something stupid like jump off a cliff or into an ally's line of fire...
Not to mention aside from all these bugs their simple "group and follow" AI was rather simple... Now I realize that the original Halo was rushed near the end so they really didnt have enough time to fix all this, but I'd be a lot more comfortable if they reassured me that if at the LEAST the marines arn't any smarter tactics-wise they at least took out bugs such as the suicide dives off cliffs...
Im really quite interested in the human forces of Halo 2 more then most I guess... I mean they give plenty of info about the Covenant and the new MC, but seem to neglect your npc allys... This is prob. due to the fact that I think most people dont care too much about that aspect of the game but I do.. One of the reasons I liked the original Halo soo much was because unlike most all FPS your not a one man army (Although it was near-that with the crappy AI for marines), it made it feel like you were part of a much bigger conflict, ya know? Well, thats enough of my ranting and raving, FOR NOW.... I quoted this for fun. Although alot of people wouldn't read such a long post, I did. And I think halo 2 will not be rushed at all, in-fact, Bungie seem to be taking as much time as they need.
