I am having trouble accessing my video setttings, it wont let me access my specular or my shadows option. those 2 options are darkened not letting me turn them on, so the game looks really crapy without shadows and specular turned on, i am running a brand new HP laptop, here are the specs. AMD 64 3400+ (2.4ghz), 512mb RAM, 100gb hd, Nvidia GeForce4 440 64mh...those meet the requirements so i have no clue as to why it wont let me access them, please help.

look... minimum requirements does not mean your computer can run the game, all settings high. minimum requirements means that you can run the game on all low settings, and not get an incredible amount of lag, if oyu have that type of computer. specular and shadows really don't help any, but if you want to turn tham on, get a video card thast's not several years old

Heyyo,

the Geforce4 mx440 doesn't do pixel shading (PS) which HaloPC and HaloCE requires for shadows and specular lighting. The Geforce4 mx440 only does basic Transform&Lighting (T&L) so you'll get basic shadows and basic lighting, that's it.

If you want a good videocard to handle the specular and shadows and have some cash to throw around get a ATI Radeon 9800 PRO, or a Nvidia 6600GT.

I don't think you can use those cards on a laptop. I wouldn't use a laptop for gaming but thats just me.

since u cant really make a custom labtop and if u want a gaming labtop eityher go with Alienware, or buy Dell's XPS Gen 2 Gaming Labtop!! It's sweet :) well anything should be sweet for about $2800 in Canadian money.

of course u can change stuff around in a laptop... its just harder. :D
no seriously just open it up from the keyboard and have a look inside, then get a decent card like a mobity 9800 pro, and put that in instead.

i personally havnt made a laptop yet, but ive built many desktops and my freind made hgis own laptop with sum guy , it didnt take that much longer then a tower case.

also just bcos it meeta min specs doesnt mean that it can run on max detail.
