The Sentinels

Section I
0300 hrs. Jan. 19, 2546

Covenant cruisers fell from the sky as the remaining Spartan III’s and the last Spartan II, John also known as Master Chief, regrouped. The Pelican that was to pick them up had not come yet. John wondered if they had seen the explosion and marked them MIA. The Spartans were trying to get communication with the UNSC frigate. No luck, John was sure once the Covenant found them they would get their destroyers to destroy the Spartans or if they were lucky the Covenant would only deploy infantry, but even then they would run out of ammo. Their only hope was to get communication with their frigate. John checked his radar, nothing. They needed to get to cover but there was none. John tried once more for communication and finally got through. It would take the Pelican 25 minutes to get there, but as long as they got picked up John didn’t care. “John,” Tom said, “I think they spotted us.” John looked just in time to dodge an energy beam from a hunter. “Everybody, fall back” John said as he saw a green blob charging for another shot. The hunter's energy beam blasted through a rock. The thing charged toward the Spartans. John found a plasma grenade and threw it at the hunter. Nothing. John dove under the hunter missing its shield by inches. He took out his Shotgun and shot the hunter in its weak spot. A phantom deployed 15 ghosts with drivers in them. John and the others sniped the Covenant out. As they finished the last of the Covenant their Pelican arrived. John was surprised when he figured out Sergeant Johnson was piloting it. John saw an elite that survived. He took a rocket launcher and blasted the elite. “Nice aim.” Sergeant Johnson said. “We have another mission for you.” John loved the battlefield he hoped it was another fight. “You and your squad have to go aboard an unknown ship.” “Find out what kind of ship it is.” “Yes sir” John said.

John and his squad stepped into the armory. John chose a MA2B and a combat knife. Once they were done they stepped onto the Pelican. “I’ll be pilot.” The Master Chief said. He hooked Cortana up to the Pelican. “Where do we go?” Master Chief asked. “I’ll auto pilot us there.” Cortana replied.
It was about 30 minutes before they got there. “Here we are right above the cruiser.” Cortana said. “Everybody…get ready to jump except Tom, you pilot the Pelican when we jump off.” The Chief said. The other Spartans without questions, did what he said. The Chief jumped and landed on the cruiser so did everybody else. “There’s no way in.” The Chief said. “We’re going to need Tom to blast a hole in it.” The pelican shot a hole big enough for the Spartans to fit in. “You left your mic on” Tom said over the mic in his helmet. “Thanks” John replied. “No problem.” The Spartans climbed into the Cruiser and to their surprised were face to face with 2 hunters. “Either they got here first or it’s their ship” The Chief said as he dodged two beams at once. “Spartan 055 and 039 you go flank them, the rest of us open fire. “Go!” “Yes sir.” All the Spartans said. All the Spartans besides 055 and 039 open fired as the hunters drew closer. Sweat trickled down John’s back. “Would they make it?” John thought. He tried to push the thought away. Spartans 055 and 039 broke into a run to get to the hunters backs but the hunters noticed both of them. The hunters hit both of them with their green energy beams. John could feel the heat from where he was standing. John charged the hunters, while dodging there plasma energy beams. He finally was hit, his right arm burned with pain but he ignored the pain and kept charging. He shot a hunter down with his MA2B and took down the other with his combat knife. Pain was still soaring through his right arm. “Are you alright?” one of the Spartan IIIs asked. “I’m fine.” “This place looks different from any Covenant ship I’ve seen.” Another Spartan III commented. “What about the two Spartans?” John asked there feeling better, enough to fight some more.” A Spartan III replied.
“Let’s move on.” The Chief said.
