Subject: NXE seems to have locked out Xbox original games

I tried to play Halo 2, for the first time since the NXE launched and it won't log in.

It shows my gamertag, and it attempts to sign in but it will ask to do a network test. I thought Halo 2 might be down, so I tried DOOM 3 and Splinter Cell 3 and got the same issues.

I see from the Bungie ticker that people are playing Halo 2 so this must be an issue with me. Anyone else having issues? Any suggestions? I can't get on. :(

Try redownloading the backwards compatibility update.

Doing maintenance didn't work. Deleted the Halo 2 data so I could download the Halo 2 1.5 patch again.

The Halo 2 patch downloads, but it still fails.

I'm stumped.

I am completely lost on this. I have tried:

Downloading the B.C update twice.
Downloading the Halo 2 patch twice.
Tried Wireless connection.
Tried Wired connection.
Tried logging in on dashboard before loading the game.
Tried not logging in on dashboard before loading the game.
Tried other Xbox original games.

No Xbox 1 games which have XBL support log on - but I can download their patches... I'd call Xbox support but it's 3:50am in the UK (where I am).

Well, it sounds like you have just one problem, the server cannot recognize your profile. Did you try deleting your profile and then reacquiring? If the server cannot verify your profile it might think you have a connection problem even if there's not.

Just tried that now. Still did not work.

I have to admit though, that was a good guess. I never thought of that. I guess I'll have to call Xbox Support.

Thanks anyway.

None of my Xbox games log onto live. It's not just Halo 2.

You did say you can sign on with 360 games, right? If you couldn't connect with any games it would be a different ballgame, so idk.

Phoned Xbox support.

After being lost for 10 minutes in the stupid voice recognition menu, I was told they're upgrading the systems so I need to call back in around 3 hours time...

I'm not having a good day...

I'm sorry to hear that. You did clear the cache (again) after deleting all the profiles, right?

It's possible that, after you deleted the Backwards Compatability files (and cleared cache), when you tried to sign on with the old profile the cache was again corrupted because of the profile that's not recognized. Then, when you deleted the profile and tried to reacquire, maybe the cache prevented the proper acquisition. Just a lame guess.

The only other thing I can think of is a communication problem with your gold account but that would involve MS. By communication I mean that when you insert an xbox game, the information that says it's ok to go on live is not there.

I cleared the cache, then deleted the account then recovered it.

It's very strange, I honestly can't think of what does it - seeing as I could download the game's patches with no complaint.

I feel for you! Let us know how this turns out because now I'm very curious. I added a bit to my other post.

Yeah, the patch thing is weird.

Yeah, I am also very curious. I don't have that much of a desire to play: Halo 2, DOOM3, OutRun2, Rainbow Six 3 or SPlinter Cell 3 online or anything - I wanted to get the Halo 2 maps back as we were going to system link.

However, I am damn curious to why this is failing. What did I do? What caused it? How can it be fixed? It's fixating on my mind, when really I should be playing Halo 3.

If I get a resolution I will post here, going to try Xbox Support again within the hour.

Well, I phoned Xbox Support. They tried beating me into taking a B.C Update disk, I explained that the games ran fine - just won't log in. They finally understood and suggested a few things including: Deleting the tag, running Initial Set-up to refresh the console and trying again.

Still failed, they have checked my profile and I am 100% Gold account. They have escalated the case and will "get back to me within 72 hours".

S*it just got interesting. I even have Microsoft stumped.

  • 11.24.2008 2:11 PM PDT

For those interested, I managed to log on. I think Microsoft corrected something with my profile on their side, as I didn't do anything and they failed to call back - after they called today requesting more information. So #Grumpy1 - think you were right.

The providers will never tell us peons they were wrong, my friend. I'm glad it worked out for you.
