Here is a list of everything you should consider when organising a LAN event. No matter how big or small, make sure most of these are covered. If I have missed anything out then please add to it by replying.

Here's the list:
* Pick a date quite far away. If you pick a closer date there is a big possibility that people will have already made plans. This also means you're not rushing the organisation side of things.

* Pick other people that, overall are at the same skill level. Some people may get pissed off if they are most definitely the worst player there and keeps losing.

* Make sure everyone have good access to the venue. We don't want people cancelling because they missed a bus that only comes every 2 hours.

* Make sure you state the criteria for the tournament quite early. Which includes: telling them what team they are on (and the team colour), which XBOX they will be on, who else is on their team (inculding who is sharing their XBOX) and ecxactly what games will be played (make a list of 7 team games including the most important information). Doing this gives some time for the team to prepare their tactics and strategies. The more the team are comfortable with each other and the map, the more complex the strategies will be which leads to some kickass matches!

* Make sure everyone involved knows the necessities. Date, Time, Venue. It might be a good idea to get them to bring their favourite type of control. That way no-one is moaning about only using the S-type when only Dukes are left.

* Make sure the venue is big enough. If you're organising a 16 player match, both of the 2 room must be big enough to hold 8 players and all the equipment. There's nothing worse than been crammed into a small room.

* Get all XBOX's, TV's, Hub and Cables and copies of Halo to the venue about 4 days before the event. This allows you to enter all custom games and player profiles into the the XBOX and saves the humiliation of not having enough equipment for the event.

* Make sure no teams have unfair advantages. This mainly consists of making sure all TV's used are around the same size. There is bound to be quarrels if one team has conisderably larger TV's over the other.

* Get all players to tell you their control requirements well before the event so you can enter it into the correct XBOX in the last few days. You doing the tedious job of entering each player into the correct XBOX will save any moaning about not having the correct settings when in a game. Stick a piece of paper to the XBOX and as you enter each profile onto the XBOX, write their names on the paper. Use their real names, not their game names. Then allow 5 minutes for players to find their profiles and make any quick name changes.

* Make sure to warm up. Begin with 1 or 2 split screen games (4-player free for alls on any map) with random people before any LAN games begin. This allows for everyone to check their controls and generally get a feel for the game situation.

* For the 7 games, record the important data of the match. Time each match, record the amount of kills for each player and record the score of the match. If you do this, at the end you can declare the best/worst player by using various criteria. Most kills, most deaths most captures etc. Using the timing for each match you can eventually work out who got the most kills per minute (a some real hardcore data for some people to gloat on!). The data you've collected will also give you a team winner.

* After the 7 team games, everyone is free from data recording. The 7 games were a data recorded round where eventually a team winner and overall best/worst player is found. Afterwards, allow anyone to create a match and everyone just play it, however crazy it sounds. It can be absolutely anything!

As it took me quite a while to write this, I don't want it to go to waste. Sorry guys, I'm bumping it up to the most recent page.
