This is an excellent primer for people who are interested in playing online without xb-live, thanks for posting it!

if you are using a 56k modem, or anything slower than cable broadband internet, you may as well stop wasting your time wishing you could play online, and go get a better internet connection.

xb-live is obviously better than tunneling software, but some folks would argue that point.
In both cases the biggest problems are always internet latency (lag) and internet stupidity (n00bs). I have used XBC and gamespy and I would definitly say that XBC is the better software based only on its popularity. You will be able to play some reasonably good games on XBC, it is without a doubt the next best thing to a lan game.

These tunnel programs also play some other great games also (thats right, halo isnt the only game in the world, just the best), Ive had some good times with online football games, and castle wolfenstien.

Bad thing is I have PAL format - which means I can't play with most of you guys unless I wait until November 9th. Thats just for me, I do have XBC but people there are too weak that I can beat them without my left hand.

Hey I just want to ask something, I have 256k ADSL connection. Is that fast enough?

You need a PC with a NIC (Ethernet card). This is essential, as the program is installed on your computer

two things: one- what is an ethernet card?
two- how much does it usually cost?

I love my Mark V helmet, no upgrade necessary.

An ethernet card is essentially a link port you put in your pc to link it to other pc`s or hardware {xbox}
you can usually get it for about 20 euros or 15 dollar ,theyre not so expensive.
if you ask about it in a store they`ll usually know what you mean ,and the istallation is a breeze

I once had Gamespy Tunnel. It wasn't as good as I thought it would be. I recently downloaded XBC. Hope that does some good.

-Problems with Tunnel: Lagging (decreases accuracy, adds to anger). So-Called-Pros (They're only good because you're lagging and they're not). Idiots (They host... They die...)

Need I Say more?

XLINK has just released a newer version on oct 16 (last saturday) it is a lot better. There is a lot less lag. The thing with xlink is u can play about 4 games before one in xbc even gets started. because ppl join faster. I agree with col wilshire if you host you are most likely going to win and if you arent hosting you better be good or they must suck or else you will probably lose.

if its not-why do people want to buy it
looking at what extra you get its not much worth it really?

Howdy I'm an experienced XBC player and I've been with them for a loooong time. If you check their forums I'm a known poster there. If you need any help setting up XBC I should be able to help.

A NIC card is an ethernet port. You connect your Xbox to an NIC card in your PC or router via a cross-over cable or just get the Xbox System Link Cable. If you need more help let me know.

Oh yea, if you want to play me, my XBC name is Three-D.
