Someone please help me with this. I'm at my wit's end.

I recently reformatted my harddrive. One of the first things to install after my wireless network adapter was my graphics and sound card drives along with Halo PC.

I booted it up and noticed it was running faster and smoother than ever. Played the game at 1280x1024 resolution at 60 FPS with all the bells and whistles (luster etc.) Beautiful sound quality. Running much better than I would have imagined.

Then I started having this really strange problem. For no apparent reason, the game would freeze up for 15-30 seconds at a time and replay whatever 1-second soundbite was going through my speakers when it froze. So if I pulled out a pistol when it happened, I'd hear "shick-shick" over and over, with a frozen screen. Then it would dethaw and I'd play as normal. But over the course of time, the freezings have gotten worse, becoming longer and more frequent. It happens on multiplayer too. No improvement after turning off everything and going down to 800x600. Finally, it stopped freezing when I turned on Safe Mode.

As you can imagine, being in the middle of a pistol fight and this happening to you... I bet my family can hear my screaming from downstairs. Especially after a month of this, I can't take it anymore.

And now, my other problem (which sucks just as much). Even after the problems started, this problem took a little longer to surface. I can't see all of the servers on GameSpy. In fact, I see more like 10 of them. That have people. The day before the problem I had seen about 2000 people playing Halo PC. Now I can see a MAXIMUM of 100. At BEST.

Someone please help me. System specs:...

2.4 GHz P4 (no overclocking)
120 GB HDD
1024 MB RDRAM PC800
GeForce4 128 MB Ti 4600

Heyyo,

Hmm, definately try reinstalling halopc, it seems to be having probs. Make sure after you uninstall it, you delete the halo folder as well.

I have this problem with battlefield vietnam. Each time after I defrag I have to reinstall the game cause it starts to have chaching problems. This's what's happening to your HaloPC. It's used to all the files/file-fragments being in a certain spot that they freak out now that it's been rearranged. a reinstall should fix this.
