I am a Gold elite and your army of 200 ODST's have attacked the docking station of my covenant ship, it is my job to make sure that none goes further into the ship and try to capture it for themselves.
The Master Chief is not around at this time.
and nor is the flood....( just imagine this happens on earth somewhere )
the only covenant aliens in my command are Elites,Hunters,Jackals,Grunts.

What do i do.

1st send in the grunts, to keep the humans occupied while the jackals on the top levels get into position, once the 1st wave of grunts is killed or fleeing the jackals will then fire onto the marines from up above and pick of the wounded and seperated marines.
Hopefully my 1st wave of grunts would have come over their fear and with some back up of Elites race back into the fray.
After that I will then order 3 pairs of Hunters and a few 6 man squads of invisible elites in the docking station while the jackals start picking you off again.
Then i will order more grunts and Elites while alongside the jackals on the upper level's four hunters will be placed to fire towards your pitiful army.

Your Mission.

A Fellow AI of yours has just told you all my plans on the covie battle-net, that ive been sending to my army. Now you must Tell me how you would get pass all of these troops and your tactics used.

Good luck as this will prove your Human Leadership.

You Have all the weapons availiable in halo 1 so think how you would use them.
you also have 30 Banshees that you stoll in an earlier battle. ( But remember that theres not much room to fly in a docking station....so be wise! )

This should become a pretty tight-ass thread. Nice work. As for my answer.

The Battle

For the first wave of Grunts, I would get into a defensive position and pretty much make it a firing squad for the Grunts. While doing this I would tell my snipers to get into postion, and after the Grunts were gone (fleeing or otherwise) I would order them to fire on the upper levels. Then taking the most hardcore ODST (promise him a medal or something of that nature for extra inticement) to get in a Banshe a fly over the upper levels distracting the jackels. Then with the jackels taken care of I would then order all other ODST's able to fly the banshees to wait for my signal to attack the army of Elite's and Grunts. (using mainly fuel rod cannons) Have them keep firing as i get my firing squad to mop them up. Then order the remaining banshees to attack anything that moves in the docking station (obviously suicide) While this is happening it gives me time to get my snipers and a team of other covert ops. ready. And when the last Banshee drops they will already be in position.

The hunters and invisible Elites will come and we will use lots of gernades, mostly frags, and I order them to charge the hunters until explosives are depelted and while this is happening the covert ops takes out the Elites, Jackels, Grunts and Hunters on the upper levels with well placed shot, explosives, an sniper rounds, reducing the top floor to a few covenant forces while it still the cover ops. job to keep them supressed. Then with the remnants of my Army I move up and mop up the rest of the Covenant, capturing the ship.

Battle Statistics

Out of the 200 ODSTs in my attack force, only 27 soldiers remained, 85% of whom are wounded. All Banshees are destroyed, and no covenant reamain on the ship.

A victory for us, but in the long run, probably did not help us.

Please tell me any thing that needs to be answered about my strategies. Sorry did not have that much time to think it throught. (The ODSTs were already screwed though) Feel free to critisize it. Thank you if you read it all. :)

GT-I Final I (i's)
Plz uze prper inglish n ur poasts!11! it makez it eazeer 2 reed!

This seems like a cool thread.

My plans:

I'l line the Banshees up to form cover, and place the ODSTs with the weakest weapons(ARs, pistols) behind the Banshees, Shotgunners behind them(almost directly behind them, not too far). Snipers would be picking off what gets too close. Heavy Weapon ODSTs would take up the rear throwing frags into big groups.

When the Jackals come, I'll change my line to snipers behind the Banshees to protect them
Jackal fire, all while giving fire back through the holes in the shields. When the situation gets dire, Heavy Weapons will send a couple of rockets for your inferior forces to suck on.

When you send in the Hunters, my heavy weapons team will get them, while the ODSTs with ARs would be ordered to fire randomly until those Elites are found and dead.

I'll finish off whatever's left.

I would estimate at least 100 deaths from this plan, and at least 50 wounded. This would be an easy way to secure the ship. And comments are welcome.

well,in real life the humans would have no chance against plasma....but i'll play along ;)

i have 200 marines.

50 get in defensive position. 25 with ARs' 25 with pistols. they start firing on your grunts while 25 snipers get into position to get the jackals.

then as the grunts start fleeing the snipers pick them off. the jackals come in, as the jackals are focusing on the ssult force down below the snipera get a suprise attack on the jackals.

36 marines down.

the grunts are gone. 6 jackals remain. camo elties and hunters came in.

i send in 3 banshees do distract the hunter and elites while whats left of the snipers and assulters attack,5 snipers that are left pick off the hunters.

then,20 rocket jockeys come in,fire in every which way hoping to get the elites. the smoke and splattered gore reveal where the elites are. the assulters draw their rifles and open fire and pick them off.

all the marines are in the fray now.

in a blaze or green and blue explosions from dropped grenades and overheated fuel rod guns. fire from frag nades and rockets only 2 lifeforms remain.

Seargent johnson ;) and the Gold elite.

the sarge draws a pistol,the elite draws a plasma sword. the rounds arent penetrating the elties shield,the sword is an inch away from the sarges face. the elties dreops dead. purple blood pouring from his face.

no covies left in the ship. its captured.

Wow, this will be hard.
First I will send in my ODST's with BR's to pick off the jackals' at the top, and Some 25 ODST's with AR's to pick out the grunts. Then, when the hunters arrive, my 20 ODST's with SR's will stay behind the assaulters, and shoot the hunters. I will send in Two pelicans at a time to land ODST's with BR's at the top.Forces used so far; 100. 100 more at my command remaining to enter the ship. When the invisible elites enter, i will send in ODST's with SMG's, to turn on flashlights and spot out elites, taking them down. With 50 more ODST's, why not send in Heavy arms, just for the hell of it, or should i say, pick off the hunters. Ta Da. Estimated Casualties? about 123.

If there isn’t room, make room.

First rule: No man will move away from his assigned group on his own. Every man needs to pull his own end. Stick to your group.

ODSTs are ruthless and brutal to begin with, so ordering a pack of them to ignore the grunts and go for higher ground might cause some stir-ups considering the fact they’re always looking for a fight…however the opportunity to fry some bigger fish should satisfy their needs…

Leaving a few behind who are better at close-range combat to stay behind and rush the grunts is an excellent idea and will probably be the most used idea since Grunts are basically walking dead now…however the concentration on the grunts should be limited to a few pistol shots and a plasma grenade or two...they have the tendency to flock back to their herd once stuck, so they’re doing you a favor. Leave a sixth of the Banshees behind and once the Grunts are taken care of have them set up for another wave with several gunners onboard, having them rotate positions to aim for the top…

<Amidst the Grunt slaughter>
With the close range attack from below, another sixth of the Banshee division will maneuver their way to the top, snipers ready from an alternate, secluded position in the docking bay. They will serve by running down and shooting the jackals…the ODSTs will probably get a kick out of running them over, brutality is in their favor. If any straggling jackals are left, the snipers will take care of them.

<Engage Part 2 of Close Combat>

Elites.

After the Hunters arrive later, these fellas will be the least of my worries. 12 Banshees are already occupied, one below, one on top. Use these 12 to mow down the elites and have Assault Rifles brought out by the ground troops to spray the Grunts.

<Release the Hunters>
This is where I figure some of my men will start to fall. Rest their souls. They have served well.

The Hunters will probably put the Invisible Elites in front of them to use as hum-*rethinks* Alien shields. A quick line of Assault Rifle spray ought to make their natural colors bleed through while their invisibility skills wear off, allowing Plasma Grenades to take over the Elites.

Now for the Hunters.

With 12 Banshees attacking from above and below, the Hunters should stay distracted while 3 Rocket Bearing soldiers, who moved out with the snipers, spread out into triangle formation and attack them from above with their…semi-scoping abilities with their Launchers. Hopefully this will save some time, as cheap as it may be, anything to get the job done.

Snipers will finally commence into battle while the Jackals and Elites reappear on the upper level and attempt to pick us off. Our position may be discovered, which is why I’ve decided to play dirty and have the enemy distracted by the snipers as a band of jumpers come from behind and melee the crap out of whoever is standing.

<The Last of the Hunters>
Many of my men will be exhausted by now, but knowing my ODST troops, they will not show it. They’d rather go down, guns firing then tired and weak.

Four Hunters and a little more than 3/4ths of my men left standing (including the injured).

Show them why you were trained to jump feet first into Hell.

Use the remaining of the Banshees in a hit and run style. Fly them towards the hunters as our Rocket launchers pepper from above aim for their weapons, hopefully disabling them for the moment while those who are driving ram into, over, and away from them, sticking Plasmas, planting a frag or two at their feet. The snipers will take aim for the desired orange flesh on their bodies, shooting them senseless as the final seconds tick away before the Plasmas ignite. Final rounds of rocket launchers will be fired towards the Hunters to finish off any struggling creatures.

<Melting Gold>
Your Covenant ship is practically ours. We show no mercy as 5 of my best men professionally enter your perimeter, surrounding you. Each equipped with a close combat weapon of choice and several grenades. Your sword is no match as you attempt to swing them down. They were trained to destroy the likes of you. Evasive maneuvers are taken to hold you off guard while 2 fire from behind. Naturally you’ll turn to face them, leaving your back exposed for some plasma slapping. All was well aboard before you let your guard down. A few shots to the face helped ignore the hot blue sparks on your back before you combusted, drenching the bodies of my men in your blood.

Congratulations…it’s over.

FINAL REPORT == <<Estimated Loss: 85-100 men, Wounded: 50-75, Honored in My Eyes: Every damn one>>

Got to admit, this is a pretty cool thread. I'll try and make it as realistic as possible (relating it to what is in the game as far as I can).

The ODST's split into categories:
* 4 Sargeants
* 12 Snipers
* 4 Rocket ODST's
* 176 AR Marines with 1 Frag grenade (bog-standed Marine)
* 4 Marines that can fly Banshees (Banshee Pilots)

Sorry but stealing 30 Banshees sounds too unrealistic. Especially due to the fact that for many Marines, this is the 1st encounter with the Covenant, so many will are new and cannot fly Banshees. I have 4 experienced Marines that can fly them though (little more realistic). I know I would need flying aircraft to reach the docking stations of a hovering Covenant Cruiser, but lets say that it is grounded and awaiting repair on its engines so it can take off/hover off ground

SETUP
I am 1 of the 4 Sargeants in the army, and we split off into 5 squadrons. 4 of the squadrons are the same and consist of:
* 1 Sargeant (most likely with a Sniper Rifle)
* 3 Snipers
* 1 Rocket ODST (10 rounds, and Pistol as secondary once emptied)
* 44 AR Marines

Each Squadron is simply named 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. I control squadron 1. The other Sargeants, although same in rank, see the potential of my plan and obediently follow my lead due to the fact that I am an extremely experienced Sargeant and know my battleplan be effective.

Squadrons 1 through 4 are the troop squadrons while the 5th squadron will consist of the 4 Banshee Pilots.

THE BATTLE
Firstly, squadrons 1 through 4 get into position at the doors of the docking bay. Each squadron coming from a slightly different direction to decrease the chance of the bulkieness getting us spotted. They keep silent at the doors and wait.

Then, 5th squadron fly towards the docking station doors. They are locked, but hopefully the Covenant will accept them and open up. If the Covenant don't accept, (maybe because they have procedures where passcodes etc. are used to confirm identity of pilots) the fact that Humans are outside will draw out a Banshee or two from the docking platform to attack them.

If the Covenant accept, they open up the doors and the Banshees fly in and take out as much of the enemy as they can before they get taken out. As the doors are open, all 4 squardons charge in.

If they don't accept and send out some Banshees, when the doors are opened, all 4 squadrons charge in blasting the hell out of the Banshees exiting the ship as they do so. Hopefully the sheer fire of this will bring down all enemy Banshees and the Human-piloted Banshees can move in. If any the enemy Banshees make it out the Human-piloted Banshees take out the enemy Banshees, then come join the allies in the docking bay to take out as many enemies they can. (if the doors aren't already closed. If they are they are out of the battle from now on).

Assuming all Banshees are stuck outside (the most possible scenario in my opinion), all squadrons charge in (due to the fact that the doors may close at any time) and take cover from all Covenant fire. Obviously hiding from Grunts and Elites for Plasma Pistol, Plasma Rifle and Needler shots but mainly taking cover because of Plasma Grenade and Fuel Rod fire.

Each squadron tries their best to stay together, each squadron taking cover at a slightly different location. As Grunts charge, the All marines take them out best they can.

As this is happening Grunts are returning from their fearful states and returning with Elite companions and Jackals appear from above. AR Marines take cover and fire at the charging army the best they can while the Snipers take out the Jackals. As the Jackal numbers dwindle about 22 Marines from each squadron (1/2 of each AR section of a squadron) charge out to meet the advancing Elites and Grunts. Snipers (with cover from the remaining 22 AR Marines) hold back and help out best they can once the Jackals seem to disappear.

When all seems clear for now, the remainder of each squadron advances out to join the remainder of Marines. Taking cover (at the central column with the switches) best they can and watching for attacks from above and infront.

The 6 Hunters strut in, all seems pretty simple, but the squads of invisible Elites makes problems. Everyone (but Rocket ODST's, for obvious reasons) attacks the invisible Elites best they can as the Hunters slowly advance. Once the Hunters get quite close, any remaining Rocket ODST's fire at them, along with the odd Sniper for a shot at the 'Orange Patch'. Not able to take them all out then it is AR Marines job to bombard them with Frag Grenades (picking up Grenades from any dead Marine)

As the Hunter and Invisible Elite numbers begin to dwindle the Elites and Grunts come charging again. HOLY CRAP! Hunters and Jackals from above. Marines press forwards the best they can and try to get under the floors of the above levels (for some of the little cover available) and fire at the army advancing towards them. Eventually (due to dwindling numbers) taking out the army on the floor (and receiving fire from above), the Snipers and Rocket ODST's target the Hunters from the best angle (and cover position) possible and not moving onto Jackals until all Hunters are gone.

Once all seems well, and Jackals are left, all Marines move out into the open and cover fire the few remaining Snipers and Rocket ODST's that are taking out the remaining Jackals.

Most likely suffer heavy losses (mainly from Invisible Elites and Hunters) but the successful capture of a Covenant Cruiser is more than worth the sacrifice.

Overall I predict that the following would die:
* 1 Sargeant
* 8 Snipers
* 3 or all Rocket ODST's
* 110 AR Marines

Overall deaths of 122 out of 200 (61% KIA). Leaving the rest to hold the ship before reinforcements arrive.

Id keep all my Rocket ODST's in the back, along with the snipers, and id have the Pistol/Assult Rifle ones ahead. Since we took the Gravity lift to get in, we are in a storage bay, so id take 2 of my marines and put em in ghosts. Id send my ghosts out as scouts, with marine support. The ghosts wont last long, from enemy fire, but my marines are doign a good backup job. Id eventully make it to the 3rd floor of the shuttle bay, and then id head to the bridge. Id take the "wheel" and head towards the ground at top speed. Since the Covies have the Shuttle bay so close to the bridge, id take all the remaining marines, and board one of the covie dropships. (or send in a transmission to a pelican).

Death count:

130/200

Vehicle Death Count

2/2

Or Id just send a nuke towards the ship :)

First off I'd deploy around 30 ODSTs with ARs and shotguns to take down the grunts, while bringing in 20 snipers to take down the jackals on the upper levels, with plenty of frag support. If they were still having trouble i'd bring in 4 banshees to give the jackals a bit of aerial bombardment with the fuel rod cannon type thing they have.
To take down the next wave of grunts and elites i'd deploy an extra 30 AR and shotgun ODSTs to back up the first wave, and get the snipers to help put the elites down before they cause too much havoc.
To take down the hunters and elites, i'd pull my forces back into any cover available, and bring in 8 more banshees to give the area a thorough plasma based wash down. I'd also deploy 10 ODSTs with rocket launchers to help with the carnage.
I'd also get 10 more snipers in to back up the original snipers, and bring in 15 of my most badass ODSTs in banshees, to clear the upper levels then land there, and get their rocket launchers ready to ambush the final wave of jackals and hunters on the top levels. The troops down at the bottom would now be wiping out the grunts and elites, while the snipers get into position to provide cover fire for the troops landing on the upper levels.

That should do the job i'd say.

casualty estimate: who knows, it all depends on the ODSTs AI....

second if you read the books and the mission it said that a friendly AI has told you what im doing,

And it isnt un realistic because to those of you readers that have read "The Flood" you may realise that this attack is very similar to the one in the book where the ODST's took over the T&R.

And lastly, i did say "Pretend", Which is kind of a big hint that its not exactly perfect.

P.S. please share with us what Gestapo means, just because hes using it as a name doesnt mean hes a stupid dick!.....we can call you that for spelling scorpion with a K.

I spell Skorpion with a K for a reason that to which is none of your buisness, asume i cant spell and i'll win the spelling compatition. Understand?

The GESTAPO, or Gehime Staats Polize ( Secret State Police ) are WW2 -blam!- Political Assasins like most former Spetsnaz Agents become. They're -blam!-'s enough said but they're the guys you feared more than Hitler or the SS, They torture, Interigate and all round -blam!- you up for what they asume is state security political reasons. But, to my disgust this fool believes the Gestapo are great people as his name surely implies. I am a former russian, i am now an Australian, and my communist relatives in WW2 were brutaly maimed and gutted in every sence of the word and for what? Defending their homes? -blam!- YOU.

Any fool that thinks a -blam!- is cool or for that matter any person who thinks that the colour,shape or size of a man or woman is inferior to that of another is scum and i hate you all.

As for the Tactics, your orignal statement is flawed in many ways and i dont like long posting unless someones got my tail. so i wont explain other than the lack of detail is annoying and some what vital....i might as well just imagine the rest of the situation considering..... maybe i should just equip my Hell Jumpers with all ROCKET LAUNCHERS.....

ok we have the best ODST snieprs with all the nsiper ammo continuously shoot the covies untill they come out of the ship teh banshees are set up at the sides and are waiting for the attack we also have ODSTs wait at the sides too. then there is a fall back area in front of the snipers afetr the ODSTs are starting to lose ground the banshees covver along wit hthe sniuper the enemies that are closest and dangering the ODSTsand then the ODSTs stay there fro a bit and then out of nowhere rush a head on attack

Well considering your cool headness after my bombardment of abuse, respect is given.

As for this post. 200 ODSTs is an awsome sized force.

I'd split the battalion into squads of 50 men.
Riflemen
Support
Snipers
Demolitions

I'm not sure HOW we enter this covvie ship but i'll just make something up to satisfy.
I'd use 10-15 banshees as cover for my 1st fire team (ALPHA) 25-30 ODSTS using AR's and Pistols to eliminate the original force of grunts sent to slow me. the Other 20-25 ODSTS will fly through the docking bay with the other banshees and make a new front above where the Jackles are about to enter fireing the dual iron rod cannons down the upper lvls causing dmg and mayhem then parking above and and using the those banshees as cover.

Now there are 2 fronts using only 1 squad. (Alpha)

(Bravo) Fire team 2 is support which consits of 25 Riflemen, 4 Hogs and 25 shotgunmen.
They enter the same way as (ALPHA) did and re-inforce with the LAAG and now have a permanent outpost of about 70 men in a defensive postion giving absolute comfort for (CHARLIE) & (DELTA) to arrive without any problems.

Now at this point Mr.Golden Elite is thinking... " Holy -blam!-, Got to Hit them hard NOW, or Build his own defensive postion... ofcourse you'll see next that he wont get the chance.

(CHARLIE) Enters safe while the Grunts and Elites formulate another attack. the Second front has cleared the Jackels and is proceeding to launch the Banshees off the side of the platform to below so that (CHARLIE) Snipers can fly up to re-enforce and 30 do. and the other 20 provide cover as this is underway.

As Hunters reach the overwhlemed Elites and Leftover Grunts, (DELTA) Demoltions enters and and sets up Grenadiers (ROCKET INFANTRY) around the (ALPHA) Defense and the real battle begins.

While this is happening, The (CHARLIE) Snipers have reached and re-inforced the second front and head into the structure to Asssassinate the Golden Elite Commander.
