Greetings all.

Hopefully someone can help me out here. I recently rebuilt my system and did a clean XPPro install (with all updates as before). Now when I play Halo it runs so slow it's unbelievable. All my settings are the same as I had previously except the graphics drivers (56.72) which are the latest set - I had 53.03 before.

Any ideas what the problem could be as I'm going mad here!!!!!!

Spec:-
WinXP Pro
AMD XP2500 ( @ 200MHz x 11)
ASUS A7N8X-X Mobo (onboard sound)
1Gb (2 x 512Mb) Crucial PC3200 DDR
GF4 Ti4200 128Mb w AGPx8
120Gb IBM / Hitachi HDD (7200 RPM 8Mb Cache)

Thanks,

Jas

Bollocks.

Pro is fine for gaming...there's no difference to Home, and it worked fine before. Something has happened with the new setup that's affecting the game and I can't find what it is.

did you change the graphics card? I have a Geforce FX 5200 and have had major performance issues and have had to go through a lot of researching and playing with the settings to get it smooth. I saw some threads that said your card is better. When I got the 56.72 drivers though I think it improved a tiny bit. Maybe if you go back to the 53.03 drivers. I have to run Halo in Pixel Shaders 1.1 and turn off a lot of settings to get it to run smoothly. I try to keep textures and particles up and turn everything else off (textures and particles I think are what make the game look good. All the rest are minor details). I'm gonna get a new graphics card one of these days and can't wait to play Halo smoothly with full settings. If I try now, it's so choppy I can't even tell how good it looks.

It's the same card i've had for a while...only the drivers changed. I'll try the older drivers and see if they make a difference. I'm waiting for the GF6800's to come out and force down the prices on the 5950 Ultra's. Then I might be able to afford one :).

Don't go out buying a new video card until you have tried everything. If you still need it here is an excellent site that made my Halo PC perform as well or even better than my Halo for Xbox.

The site is very easy to use and helps a lot. Hope it works.
