get the 1st and 3rd. the 1st is before Halo, the 3rd is inbetween Halo and Halo 2. (the 2nd is Halo, with a little more info on the covenant side of the fight)

Where did you people get these books? I've never even heard of them until I seen a couple posts on the books, tell me where I can buy them.

I got all of them, I guess the 1st makes some of the stuff cortana says more understandable and is quite interesting, but its not necessary. The 2nd gives an insight into what happens when MC is not around, and the 3rd may be needed to fully understand the Halo 2 storyline.
If you have the cash, buy all 3, if not, buy the 3rd, or 2nd and 3rd.

Buy them at Amazon.com/.co.uk

you should get all of them. theyre all good books and all are very informative. if you dont feel like reading three here is the importance order: 1. Fall of Reach, 2. First Strike, 3. The Flood. Get at Barnes and Noble, and a cup of coffee while youre at it.

I got all of em. But the first and third are really lacking in TRUE Halo quality. The second one though the author really captures the who essence of Halo and even includes some awesome battles not seen in the game.

Danarchy you lie. You lie like a -blam!-. The Fllod sucked and lacked all essence of Halo. Grab the first and last book. They are accurate and a better read comapred to the second. The second just out right blows. You'll be better off just playing Halo on legendary to get the true feel for the war.

If the first is pre halo, and the 3rd is post halo, is the 2nd about halo?

GET THEM ALL!!! Wate a bit of your allowance, and EDUCATE YOURSELF. The first book, The Fall of Reach, is by far the best. The second, The Flood, is a little...lax...but nontheless tells the game from not only the perspective of the Chief, but other marines, Keyes, and even a majority is spent on the Covenant perspective. It's interesting, and worth a read. The latest, First Strike, is pretty good, though is mainly Space battles and kinda depressing, with the realization of all the lost SPARTANs, the Covie's discovering Earth, and Cortana's over-burdened memory.

Check them ALL out. I've read each at least twice.

Learn a thing or two.

Because there are so many innaccuracies and things that can't possibly happen in the Halo universe that happened. That's why. plus the writing it self is not very good. Jumps around way too much. plus it made the Covenant seem human as compared to aliens, which they are believe it or not.
