Is it just Halo that your box acts funny with, or is it other games as well? Sounds like your best bet would be to call Microsoft support.

d[(••)]T Keepin it clean...

Live an ethical life and come face-to-face with the fundamentally flawed nature of human beings and look on the gap between high ideal and low achievement with wry amusement, only then will you have fun playing Halo 3, even against Generals who hump your corpse and beat you with a 30 point deficit.

Talking to M$ support is worse than talking to a brick wall. So ill pass on that.

But it is only Halo games. Halo 1, 2 and 3.

Alright so I just picked up my copy of Halo 2. I tried to play live on it but it just says that there is an update for the game. I accept and it takes me to the Original Xbox screen with a loading bar saying "Updating game" The bar doesn't even move and after about 1 minute it says "Cannot connect to Xbox live" What do I do to fix this?

Check all the steps listed in the first post of this thread, if you have tried all of that and still can't play call xbox support.

Alright.

1.I tried the button combination, nothing happened.

2.Is Bull

3.Did that. Couldn't find anything with Halo 2 on the Marketplace.

4.Can't Update

5.I disconnect from XBL every time I play an original xbox game.

6.A little dusty. I don't try to take craps on my disks.

7.Not enabled.

8.Cant find anything that belongs to Halo 2 on the marketplace.

I will die before I can actually talk to someone from Xbox Support.

If you cleared the cache and deleted the old map packs (if any are present) then tried to redownload then the most common method did not work.

When you boot the 360, does the dash say 'Connected' and does it say 'Gold'? It has to display this info for you get online.

If you've met the two criterias above, then maybe it's a one month problem. Did you recently purchase a one month subscription?

By the way, to switch off 'Family Settings' you have to click 'All Games' in the 'Game Ratings' page and click 'Allowed' in the 'Xbox Live Access' page. When you stated 'not enabled' that made me wonder. It has to be set to 'Allowed'.

Thanks! I was wondering why I could play Halo3 But not Halo2.

I never had anything downloaded for Halo 2. No map packs. I cannot find any map packs. I purchased a 3 month. And It says I am connected.

Well, I don't want to piss you off, you've obviously spent a lot of time researching this but all I can say is that you must have missed a step somewhere along the line.

Try one more time. Maybe even change your GT and then delete your last one. Delete any H2 profile saves (if they're not critical to you). Then clear the cache one more time and see. To make sure your box is 'reset' after clearing again, turn it off and unplug all wires. Then start it up and see.

You said your "Fam Settings' were set to 'Allowed' so that's not it, I can't think of anything else that would interfere with the updating.

Just for drill, maybe get a copy of H2 from someone and try it before you do anything else. Could be something is wrong with the disc that you can't see and it just freezes during the update.

ever since I did all this I can't play halo 3 and it erased all my data for halo 3 like films and gametypes ect...

  • 03.04.2009 4:28 PM PDT

This is for problems with H2, not H3. Nobody here told you to delete all your H3 stuff.

That's a different error though, which tells you that you have an important message from Xbox Live. Out of curiousity, I tried blocking original Xbox Live games via family settings, and it gave me that error. I changed it back to allow, and it just gave me the same stupid error, telling me it could not connect to Xbox Live and to start the trouble shooter (which as my above posts state, connects perfectly fine).

I can even sign in with a test account I made with a month free of XBL. I went to download maps, and instead of signing in on the test account I signed in on my actual account, which let me download all the maps perfectly fine (which it better, because at one point I paid for them...)

I'm running out of ideas, and Xbox customer support is clueless.

This may be helpful... Ever since the NXE for the 360, many accounts have had problems, with any Original Xbox or Original Xbox game. The solution I found is to access your XboxLive account on www.xbox.com, and make sure all aspects of your profile are up to date, INCLUDING AGREEING to the NEW Terms of Service (TOS).
Furthermore, while you're at it, you might want to keep in mind, for recovering accounts:

To recover to a 360: Account MUST have a valid email address

To recover to an Original Xbox: Account MUST have a VALID Credit card on file.

These are the only two critical variations between recovery methods for different consoles.

You can't buy them on the Marketplace. Load H2 and sign into Live from H2's menu and the maps will show themselves.

alright ive tried everything and the game still tells me that i have an important message from xbox live and then gives me options to go to account management or continue offline.

my theory is that child accounts arent allowed access to halo 2's xbox live because when i try to use my brothers adult account it works perfectly.

so what up with that bungie?

  • 03.22.2009 8:34 PM PDT

If it works fine on an adult account, but not a child one, that is a problem on Microsoft's end. If you give them a call they should be able to give you a hand with that. Links to their support stuff can be found in the first post.

  • 03.25.2009 8:18 AM PDT

Clear the cache, delete all Halo 2 stuff from your xbox, and then redownload it all, and reinstall any updates for the game.

I wish I could be more help, but I don't know what else to do. Maybe Grumpy1 can possibly come up with something different to try.

Did you buy a 1 month?

Wait, I just saw your thread. The deleting of files and clearing the cache has to be done right. Delete all maps and then immediately clear the cache. Turn off the box and restart the process. The update should go in fine and then the map packs should be installed in one sitting, and you should watch the whole time.

I don't want to upset you but most of the time it's operator error. Take a deep breath and try again.

This all assumes it's not H2 Vista. That's a whole different cookie.

So, I'm trying to get online but a message saying "You have an important message from microsoft. Would you like to go to account management?"
I select "yes", go to account management and can't find any message. Any idea where I have to go?

When I see this the first thing that comes to mind is the 1 month subscription snafu. If you have a gold account and the 1 month you have to buy a 3 month or 1 year and they will override the 1 month. To get credit for the 1 month you need to talk to MS.

If this is not the problem please describe all the steps you take (and the results) while going through the list on the original post. The more info, the better the answer.
