Yeah, do not buy another disk. Your 360 menu must have on it:
Your current GT
Gold
Signed-in

Run the diagnostics in System Settings.

Report back, in depth, on what I just wrote. Most likely if it asked to 'recover GT' then you have a connection problem or there's a problem with you and MS.

DL online, there are 4 Map Packs. If you already have several maps, delete them and then clear the cache as instructed in the topic post of this thread. Then redown.

None of this helps with my problem.

I'm trying to play Halo 2 online on my 360 with my friends. I've never had a problem signing in guest on my account before but for some reason it won't let me now. I'm connected as it lets me sign in and play a game by myself, just when I go to log my guests in, it says it has "Network Problems: We cannot connect to Xbox Live. Would you like to start the trouble shooting"
So I have no idea what the problem could be, we were all just playing earlier and now I can't sign guests in.
Please help?

Also, I've called microsoft / xbox live (twice in fact) and was told that it was the bungie servers. That's why I can't sign my quests in.

That is strange. My guess would be that it is just a glitch in the system somewhere. Most of the time these things work themselves out over time. Let me do some digging and see what I can come up with for a solution.

That to me sounds like an issue with the controller. If it is a 360 one make sure you have good batteries in it, or they are recharged and there is a clear signal to your xbox. If it is the regular xbox controller make sure it is plugged in all the way, and that when you start up your console you are not touching the joysticks.

Are you on a 360 or normal xbox? Most of the time a problem like this is best solved by starting from square one. Remove everything that is Halo 2 on your console, clear the cache and redownload everything. If that still doesn't work I think you may have to give Microsoft a call. If it is live that is not responding, that means the problem is on their end, not yours or Bungie's, but it wouldn't hurt to clear and redownload everything anyways since that is the first thing they usually have you do.

Did you do all the steps?

If so, did you buy a 1 month subscrption?

Does it say 'Gold' and 'Signed In' on your 360?

Do you really think Bungie would sticky this thread if calling MS really is a viable solution? Not even Bungie trusts MS support.

I'm 23, I have a house, dog, girlfriend, job and I have no interest in any fanboyism so if you're thinking about sending me a childish PM, don't be surprised when I don't call back.

Ok DR weird i have a conundrum for you, I've tried everything you have said TWICE and i've called customer support, nothing. What have you got for me?

Nothing is working at all? Are you able to get onto live with other games? It sounds like network issues to me, not something with the game itself if nothing listed here works.

He posted in a thread he made that the maps finally downloaded and he's playing online. Just thought I'd let you know.

Oh yeah sorry about that i forgot that i posted in here, It is working now but basically what happened was i followed all of your steps twice in a row and even phoned microsoft but nothing then the third time is obviously the charm as it just worked.

Thanks.

It's weird how sometimes the things listed here don't work right away, but if you try them again they do. I guess that is just the way stuff works now.

Just wanted to let you know, the 360 dash changed so all you have to do to clear the cache is go to the HDD and press Y. Then click on 'Clear System Cache'. MS finaly wised up to what we alreadt knew about the map thing.

New update:

New accounts work with Halo 2 online (I've tested this myself), but if you change your name or are forced to change your name (my case), it will not connect to Halo 2 online for some reason. It doesn't even try, it just gives you the start troubleshoot option right off the bat.

Here's the troubleshooting I've done myself, and do not work:

- I've cleared my cache on my Xbox.
- I've deleted all maps on my Xbox, as well as the whole save directory
- I've even recovered my gamertag on my old Xbox, and it still gives me the same error
- I've re-downloaded the backwards compatability update like mentioned above.

It's like changing your name for some reason bans you from Halo 2? I'm not sure. What's also weird about this is, after deleting the Halo 2 from your 360, it will download the 1.5 patch perfectly fine, and then after restarting tell you can't connect.

I have the EXACT same problem as you. Your links to the xbox forums aren't working for me though. You mentioned adding a 3 or 12 month card will solve the problem. Does it solve it permanently or does it just last until your months are up?

Are you sure this is the correct quote you wanted? You mentioned links that didn't work but there are no links in his quote.

If you get a 3 or 12 month it will last 3 or 12 months, then you buy a new 3 or 12 month.

  • 09.03.2009 5:42 PM PDT

Ya its the right quote. CrazyNakedMan had some other posts with the links I was talking about, but this post described the problem, so I quoted it. Also, I don't think I was very clear, I know I won't be able to play online once my time expires (lol thats pretty obvious). What I meant was, can i still play the campaign or splitscreen while connected to xbox live with a silver membership?

But I guess it doesn't really matter at all unless I just like to look at my stats on B.net
