Type in xbox connect and download to PC, then you can play it on xbox live. I dont know why ppl complain about not being able to play on the internet!

It lags like crazy though. Even worse than the other Halo games do.

I have tried XBox connect and some other tunnelling software that does the same thing. However i stopped using it because it lagged to death. I occasionally got a good game but I got sick of the problems. When I go to play games I want to play not lag all the time.

Yeah, but if you close all programs, and come in at a good time the day, its usually a decent game, i play it.

No, but you can play Halo CE online... provided you have a fast enough connection.

To play or not to play....

Yes you can play it on the internet but not LIVE. Live is better as it is easier as most people have their Xbox connected directly to their modem and having to connect it to their PC is a pain.

No to mention Xbconnect lags something chronic. Do not get me wrong I like the idea of it but I never use it due to the lag.

Yes, you can, but it's not Xbox Live, but I know what you mean. I'd love to play over Live with the original Halo but Xbox Connect was the only way to go for the past 6 years. Not as lovely, but it's something.

I don't understand, you have to connect your Xbox to your PC to play over Xbox connect?

Yes.

You run the program on your Pc and share the connection with your Xbox.

edit: Actually I just learned that you can have Xbconnect running on a computer linked to your modem or routers. Then you plug your Xbox in the router. Hmm not the way I did it when I used Xbconnect but apparently it works.

Wow, XBC =/= LIVE. Halo 1 needs to be ported to the 360 and have Xbox LIVE added - you know, friends lists, parties, chats, messages, microsphones, matchmaking, etc.

All you have to do is plug your XBox and your computer to the same router (not a modem) and run XBox Connect on your computer.

Beyond simple.

I never said it was hard I just said I never did it that way. Considering I didn't have a router at the time it is little wonder. Also some modems have inbuilt routers so to the average joe it looks to them like they are pluggin it into their modem.

The problem is that Halo was not optimized for play over the Internet. It works great on LANs, where the latency is low and the bandwidth is plentiful and open. When you tunnel that through the Internet, where there's higher latency and lots of other traffic, well, it doesn't work out very well.

Now, I used to play Halo: CE over XBC quite regularly, but it's hard to find other players close to you with fast, stable connections, and even when you do, too many people begin to join and the game becomes unplayable.

I've found that Halo PC and Custom Edition work much better since their netcode has been optimized for online play (And not too many people play Halo: CE on XBC these days anyway).

EDIT: If you want to set up a game with some friends, I bet an OpenVPN tunnel would work just fine, provided you're close enough to each other. There'd be quite a bit of a host advantage, though.

When people say they want LIVE, its not because they dont know you can play on the internet already - its because they know that LIVE is not laggy and is much more convenient than Halo PC or Halo on XBC.

XBC tricks your system into thinking that you are playing a LAN match while you're actually sending the info over the internet. The problem is that in a LAN match everything is directly connected, and information is sent at 100 MBS, while on XBL information is optimized for the internet and is sent at 10 MBS, so when you play XBC you lose about 90% of your information, making it VERY difficult to play.
