The subject comes up periodically, but no one really seems to understand what it is.

Nuclear winter: Large amounts of nuclear weapons go off, clouding up the sky so that heat can't get in, causing global tempatures to drop.

Simply put.

I believe that a nucler winter is the after effect of a global nucklear strike, where it changes the climate.Like Califoria having the same climate as antartica or something. Its just a guess.

If you have to guess, then you don't really know.
and
My congratulations to ObbiQuiet- you're the only one so far (that I have seen) that hasn't made themselves look like a jac.ka.ss while explaining it.

No one in particular, just a general comment.

Oh. Because, I like to consider myself a normal person, and I've never once had nuclear winter come up in the course of a discussion.

Consider who you're talking about it with: Are these your peers or adults?

He is probably reffering to another thread where I sarcastically said that nuclear power would lead to nuclear winter. Among other places.

I do not believe that nuclear power leads to nuclear winter, I was just thinking up the worst scenarios that has the word 'nuclear' in it.

The same thing that happens when there are multiple large volcanic eruptions in a short time... The sky is filled with dust and debris that blocks sunlight, so everything cools down a lot. I think?

A nucular winter is encured when the fallout of the radiation kills all like. As a result the enviroment is also effected by the radiation, it cools and it snows radioative ice. I could go into detail, or explain it more correctly... but the only people who would understand would be Byrum, Nedus and a few of the moderators.

Gee, I love these scientific discussions.

Its all above. And I too love "these scientific dicussions" I also like to debate, why me and my best friend had a stupid debate about the origin of the universe and we still havent settled it. Oh Fox I too would understand the details of a nucular winter because I plan to work for NASA when I grow up so I'll have to be smart. ;)

OK, nuclear winter is when a large explsion or large amount of explosion cause large amounts of dust to fly up in the air blocking out the sun. Thus causing a drop in temp. OK!

this is easy a nuclear winter is the effect of the radiation causing climate changes. Like unpredictable weather paterns, extreme wheather and temperature basically uninhabitable

LOL. Nuclear winter is more an effect of blocking of light, Spartan. I think you're thinking of fallout.

You forgot to mention the nasty storms associated with such large-scale climate disruption. *shivers*

If you're offended that easily, you're definitely too serious. Doctor Jay recommends an otc chill pill after supper each day.

the weathers pretty clear and sunny at my house. I wouldnt consider the winter here nuclear.

basically after the large scale bombardments, all the crap that is floating in the air would block the sun in a giant dustball of confusion
