i was just wondering if halo 2 will really look as good as the screenshots released by Bungie. I know that they are taken at high resolution , but it seems that there are no "jaggies" appearing on any of the architecture in the levels shown in the shots. Can the xbox really perform anti-aliasing that well?..on the other hand its Bungie and they can work miracles, check out the bump mapped rocks on the ground in some of the screens, its truly incredible!!!!!!

And the new shadowing system they put in is ungodly and alot of screens we are seeing are just old and they have advanced from that!

Um you do know that halo 2 is being made for the most powerful of the next gen game consoles. of course their real this is the bloody xbox where talking about.

  • 07.06.2004 5:27 PM PDT

SB-117

It will not look the same as the screenshots....It will look better. Bungie havent messed about with the screenshots I highly doubt they do. Halo 2's still being made and some techniques are not on in the screenshots.

Jaggies will be more apparent in moving gameplay however, you cant really notice it as much in screenshots.

Well my friend, you must also remember that these screenshots aren't taken from XBOX, there from a computer, and you know that Game Developers have to have massive comps, almost like Super Computers, Now the graphics won't change much, Because also bungie is using LESS polygons so even if the edge is jaged there won't be as many blocks. But if you notice the shadows, there REALLY blocky. Farwell my friends, *And the monitor floated back to his shadowy Library*

It prolly will yeah, but also, Take a look at the 3D screen, that's probobly more accurate than the still-frames.

[EDIT]
Which I might add, Looks preety good.

you should all be ashaimed of doubting the box,
Here's some fun facts:
CPU 733MHz Intel Celeron w/ Coppermine Core
Facts:

The Xbox has 80 Gigaflops of computing power. That's equivalent to the power found in a Cray C94 supercomputer.

It would take everyone on Earth one hour to calculate what the Xbox calculates every second.

Graphics Processor 233 MHz custom-designed X-Chip, developed by Microsoft and nVidia
Facts:

If the HyperTransport link in the Xbox was a pipe carrying water, and every bit of information equaled one gallon, the pipe would fill up the Pacific Ocean every second!

the 3d thing is from MP, where (for reasons of lag blah blah blah) the graphical ness is taken down a notch. so the graphics will be quite a bit better than that.

normal mapping is not better, bump mapping allows the for the optical illusion of depth and shadow and Bungie is applying it a lot in halo 2.

Lovely my friend, but it's not a pipe, And also the XBOX is not equivalent to a super computer, if it were Games would not freeze at loading points, it would take approx. 0.000000002 seconds to load any game.

Who told you that -blam!-?! If this were true wouldn't they use the same technology in PCs? Yes they would. Also if it were this smart why would people even make games for PC!? BC Microsoft won't give them a contract? Microsoft would have generated some much money from this technology that the PC would have had a MAJOR increase in AI, and soon even robots would be made, Robots like off the movie "I, Robot" Yes, you see, do not say something that makes you look dumb if you don't know it's true. Peace out!

Lol, Bump-mapping is where you apply a "Hieght-map" to a texture to either lighten or darken the pixels of the Texture to create a "bumpy" surface.
Normal mapping is what Halo used, flat surfaces looked flat. In halo 2 they'll look "bumpy"

bump mapping is an xbox trick that allows for flat surfaces to be given a layer of pseudo-3d-ness that makes it appear to be 3d when in fact its flat. ex. halo grass. ...normal mapping is a variant of the bump mapping technique, which also gives the apearence of 3d- ness withoit utilizing any 3d objects.
