Since the human race had colonized other planets that were inhabitable, wouldn't we find other lifeforms on these planets? I haven't read any of the books (shame on me), but the humans had colonized other planets and such, like Reach (don't know if thats a good example), so different planets, different ecosystems, different lifeforms, etc. How come we haven't encountered another intelligent lifeform besides the Covie? Or any lifeform to say the least?

Also, in the first Halo, you could hear crickets and birds...are they alien birds? alien crickets? definately not imported from Earth...or are they?

Any thoughts? I'll be in my corner, rocking back and forth.

Go on, talk amongst yourselves. Knock yourself out.

thats a great question..............which I have absolutely no answer for..............but still good question.

yeah - those damn bird noises in the actual halo level always made me think - "WAH?!!?"

The odds are, that the humans would encounter other sentient and intelligent life down the track, other than the covenant, - its just a question of how much space they have actually explored.

Because... having had considerable time to ponder your query, the answer is the same, we must activate the ring!

Ie. The Halos have been fired once before. The better question is... how did the Humans and the Covenant survive?

thats realy peculiar what are those birds and crickets. Maybe that might be proving that the forerunners are human because they made life forms simillar to earths or just simillar sounding.

What do you mean? If we activate them we all die...and i presume that the rings were activated PRIOR to when humans were created? and the covie were created?

Anyway, that still doesn't answer the question about the humans colonizing - if we found a planet that was inhabitable and capable of support life, wouldn't there be life ALREADY? There were trees on Halo...and shrubs.

Perhaps Bungie overlooked this fact? Or it was so miniscule that they ignored it...

acually i think that all the planets that humans colonize have very similar ecosystems to earth so they probly would evolve the same speices. so the animals on those planets would have evoled the same way the ones on earth did. and i think that the forrunners were alot like humans and thats why the atmosperes on the halos were so suited FOR humans

The odds that these animals evolved similar to Earth's is EXTREMELY small. And i mean VERY small. There are literally an infinite number of factors that effect how life is formed - perhaps the planets share basic building blocks, and had similar ecosystems, BUT no organism would be the same. Look at how diverse Earth is, and thats only because our planet had a certain history that caused it. Now imagine another planet with different elements, different location, different history...everything would be different!

The question still remains - there is clearly life on these planets: how come we haven't noticed/heard about them before???

Finally.. This is why i think that the forerunners ARE the humans! I posted what i thought in the speculation thread

In the original Halo they were gonna have these big dinosaur like creatures but opted to leave them out in the final version (don't believe me download the original Halo trailer). And just because there is life doesn't mean it has to be in an animal form and certainly not "intelligent", whatever you consider intelligent. Personally I don't see any reason to have these creatures in the game because they won't help the story any and it is something that Bungie would have to create that would take away from the important aspects of the game.

I got two ideas.

Halo was fired a long time ago wiping out other intelligent life forms..Humans and the Covies survied..So that would explain 1 reason there is no other life.

The other idea is that all of earth forces are at war...Everything is going towards the war so when we expand it would be for reasources. So there is no time for other life forms to be discovered! Uncle Sam wants you!

Well if there is no life, then how could the planet be inhabitable? it needs a working ecosystem and such, one that is self sufficient, enabling it to be inhabited by humans.

But...I really don't know about the colonized planets - like I said, I haven't read the books.

And by inteligent life, I mean living things that aren't like single celled organisms, like bacteria, but more like evolved creatures, perhaps a 5 legged animal that resembles a Sloth/moose.

About the main topic: I thought about this a long time ago - and I just brought it up because I never heard about it before...perhaps this idea has slipped through the cracks?

It only kills sentient life. Maybe it was fired beofre any life forms were on Earth or before any but bacteria and stuff was on earth. Then we evolved after the last time halo was fired

Or... perhaps the Forunners had similar life forms on their homeworld, so they put them on HALO? Also note that both the Covenant are humanoid for the most part. So maybe the Forunners weren't actually human, but after they activated the HALO, went out and created new races, modeling the sentient life after themselves, and the non sentient life after critters on their planet. Perhaps the birds and crickets on HALO were infact imported from the Forunner homeworld.

You've made me think, although those birds could just be for realism, but it could be a clue...

We really know nothing about the Forerunner, so it's silly to speculate on them.

What we do know is that the Covenant hate us, and want us to die. So logically, other sentient lifeforms that we may or may not have encountered did not share this same belief, or the same situation that we have w/ the Covenant would have developed there as well.

Since the entire human race being eradicated is, you know....like, BAD....the focus of interplanetary relations is placed on the Covenant.

That would be stupid. You just find a planet and build a military base, then proceed to mine it into oblivion. You don't notice the alien city on the other side, and then you've destroyed its environment, killing everyone in the city. The alien fleet responds. 3 Guesses what happens to that base. Then you have two huge alien empires to fight, reducing your chances of victory to 0% instead of 1%.

But, lets say you're sending ships out to explore, and look for new worlds, and not just for military purposes. You come across another huge alien empire. One that doesn't frag you the second you establish communication, and actually likes you. One that has a large military, especially an exceptional fleet, and is incredibly advanced. They become your allies. Goodbye Covenant.

What I'm saying is that even though their seem to be similarities between the Humans and forunner, the Humans aren't Forunner, The Forunners actually created the Humans AND the Covenant modeling them after themselves. If they did that, they probably created other races as well.

Bottom line is that even IF we have encountered other life forms as we explored the galaxy....they're obviously peaceful to us or we'd be defending ourselves against them as well. Since they don't want to kill us, they don't factor into this situation.

If they don't want to kill us... how do we know they wouldn't help us. Even if the were just as powerful as Earth, that would make victory against the Covenant much easier. And who knows, you could find a race that could (and would) obliterate the Covenant with ease.

Maybe the Forerunners homeworld is earth and that is why all the birds and crickets on halo are the same. Maybe the Forerunners created The Flood and accidentally fired Halo. Now we all know that even in Slipspace it still takes time to travel. Maybe the Forerunners on Earch had enough time to grab a few animal species and delve deep enough into the earth that the ringS didn't affect them. Also there could be a residual effect of Halo forcing them to stay underground long enough for them to forget where the technology is. Also, if they (Forerunners/Humans), happened to find the technology, then they wouldn't know how to work it. Also, on the other planets, maybe life just started over and formed normally. Or could the explanation just be that Bungie and the writers in the books are saving it for Halo 2??? Or they just thought that it was insignificant. You must all remember that when creating a game in the future, you have to write the history all over again. It's like you are playing god!! Cus you have to create all of the side stuff that doesn't affect the regular video game, satisfy all of these critiqueing people like you. Why don't we just stick with facts, wander off the path of them occasionally for a little enjoyment, and wait. Its only a few months people!!!!
